Maybe he has, but that theory doesn't stack up if he's waited until the start of preseason to hand in a transfer request.
Steve Bates has reported that Ronaldo wanted out as early as January. There were numerous reports that Mendes was in discussion with Bayern Munich over 3-4 weeks ago. It’s all there if you open your eyes a little

Ronaldo is Ronaldo, no matter what he says or does there will always be some sort of drama attached to it.

Reading the quotes for the reason he wants to leave, it says something along the lines of the club not showing enough ambition to currently match where he's at in life, which is pretty much what we've all been saying about the club for a while now. It all sounds a bit Rooney circa 2010 if you ask me.

Either way, if he leaves we probably sign a striker, maybe this Antony lad. If he doesn't leave maybe it forces our hand in the transfer market to sign more players than we initially planned to keep him happy and "show ambition". However, if this is all about CL football then we're fecked. He could be worried about Messi winning a CL next year while he watches on from an Azerbaijani hotel room after our EL game.
Come on now. It’s a convenient excuse. Ronaldo’s wanted out since he came back and he’s trying to do it best he can to save face.

  • Ronaldo’s United team-mates were left with the impression that the forward would look to move this summer if the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.

  • On more than one occasion Rangnick proposed to football director John Murtough and chief executive officer Richard Arnold that Ronaldo be sold, and replaced, during the January transfer window. There were said to be several emails and messages on this topic.

  • Rangnick felt that as Ronaldo’s time at United was uncertain beyond the end of the season, it made sense to act sooner rather than later to reconfigure the side’s attack.

I think the main difference is the significance of their goals scored. On quick check Bruno only has 2 games where his goals did make a difference on the result. Whereas Ronaldo has at least 9 games where his goals did make a difference on result.

Interesting stuff. Well if he wants out there's no point in trying to stop him, but we really do need a decent replacement which is probably why we're courting Antony. I also feel like we need another CF though, Rashford and Martial through the middle don't fill me with the greatest of confidence.

In my opinion, we have to let him go...should make a statement that we respect his wishes and that he would be allowed to leave the club should we receive an acceptable offer. That in the interim, we expect him to respect the club and continue to train as normal etc.

It's not the worth the circus of trying to persuade him to stay. We've also seen how much of a distraction he proves to be when he wants to leave a club. I would literally let him go for free given how big his salary is.

He is a complete cnut doing this to us now and not a month ago. I don’t have a problem with wanting to leave, I want the same. The timing though is shocking.

I bet no one predicted that the actual Di Maria vibes would be coming from Ronaldo.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
So Ragnick wanted Ronaldo out like any sane manager with a pressing philosophy would - what happens when the Ragnick telling it like it is bringing standards back cultists face off against the Ronaldo telling it like it is bringing standards back cultists? Fascinating stuff.

I will be so happy if he goes.

Failed vanity project.
The problem is who do we replace him with? Surely we can't go into the season with Martial as out main striker
Think he stays then it gives us a year to find a replacement next summer

I got no hate against him. We finished outside top 4, of course he wants CL. Timing could have been much better though.

Who cares. He can feck right off at this point. Again.

And he ain’t half as important as Rooney was to Manchester United Football Club.

Not a good look. He is basically tarnishing his legacy.
His legacy has been tarnished for some time. The only difference this time is more and more fans are coming to the realisation that Ronaldo only cares about 'Ronaldo the brand' and nothing else. The Madrid fans never really took to him for that very reason. Yes, some loved him but he was booed on many an occasion with fans declaring that he put himself before the team as the main reason for doing so.

What really sticks in my throat is the fact that out of all the clubs he’s played for, the one team that could have a right to be aggrieved with him, would be Manchester United fans. However, we aren’t like that, it takes a lot for us to boo "one of our own" We applauded him on his return to Old Trafford as a Madrid player. We sang his name in the stands long after his departure. All this despite the bitter taste he left in many people mouths with the way he departed the club. Not only that, but the way he has used the club ever since.
Good riddance to him.

Disappointed if he goes but I can't say I blame him.

We had a terrible season last year, and we haven't done anything in the transfer window yet. He's only got maybe another 2 seasons left in him, and he wants to win.

Ronaldo thinks he is bigger than Manchester United, it's fairly obvious at this point.

We massaged his ego bringing him back and this is how he repays us

I bet Fergie is raging this morning.

2022 Ronaldo is not worth the drama.

Ronaldo thinks he is bigger than the club and it seems our board agrees.

I've lived through this lad agreeing with Sepp Blatter that he was a 'slave' for being expected to stay at then-European and English Champions, Man Utd. By that measure his 'family reasons' are a pretty mild excuse for not coming back to Manchester!

He could've done this a month ago but he waited until the other big moves in the market were done, just so all the focus would be on the artist formerly known as CR7. Typical. Wouldn't be surprised if they were filming all this on candid cameras, ready to sell it to Netflix or Amazon.

Not really too fussed either way, the main thing is EtH stays strong in what he wants. If he wants ronny to stay then keep, if not then let him go. Personally I'd sell him and get a young up and coming striker in.

We all knew he'd be off if we didn't get CL football. Bizarre that some are so shocked by it.

We got a season out of him where he worked as a temp solution and now both parties move on.

Personally think he'll have been told he could go some time ago but we've struggled to get a replacement sorted.

Are you just ignoring the fact the Ragnick told the club in January, several times that CR7 needed selling and replacing. His teammates also knew if they failed to qualify for the UCL he'd be off in the summer. The club knew 6 months ago and did nothing.

I agree his family reasons bullshit is a disgrace but this in on the club, they knew.

Send him.

No sense in him sticking around. It’s obviously the best for both parties that he moves on.

Edit: Also, Murtaugh should be docked a month’s pay for allowing it to come to this.

I don't entirely disagree with you. I just think he could still show up for training and expect his move. The fact he wants out is no surprise. However, the drama he's creating at the moment is not necessary. Even if United should have anticipated it. Its hard to understand why they were so complacent about him being willing to miss playing Champions League football.

It was obvious in April that CL football wasn't coming to Old Trafford, so why has Ronaldo waited until July to drop this request?

Well maybe, he was assured that the new manager would be financially backed, there would be a full rebuild, a new culture, out with the old and in with the new, blah, blah blah, and all that spiel.
He has waited until July, we've sold nobody, we've signed nobody.
That status might change, but it might not, and there is no doubt about it, we are going into next season with pretty much all of last season's jokers, still at the club, and in the team.

The clock is ticking for Ronaldo, and who would expect him to tolerate another season like last season's debacle, when he could go to a decent CL club and perhaps collect some domestic silverware along the way.

Guess i'm very much in the minority as of today, but I still want him to stay.

Under ETH (assuming he gets his signings in so he can implement his style of play) I think Ronaldo can get 30+ goals next season. And I want to see them work together.

I still think if United attract a couple of top signings, Ronaldo might be minded to stay, if he thinks we can challenge.

Oh i absolutely agree he LOVES drama. As mentioned in a tweet by Lockhurst 10-20mins ago the news at the weekend, followed by his family reasons for not showing up with United due to leave on Friday for the pre season tour was VERY strategic.

Making top signings just for the sake of it doesn't make any sense. Ten Hag believes in the squad he has and he wants some very specific reinforcements.

Can see him going Chelsea, I think they're the only realistic option for him and it tarnishes his legacy at Man Utd majorly in my opinion. Couldn't care less if he goes abroad.

My guess is no club wanted him strongly enough to make him not look a villain so has to push it himself. Think he would have preferred a club bidding 20 or 30 million for him and us just selling him so looks like we sold him than he chose to leave

A consummate professional who’s not showing up for preseason? Who took an unauthorised trip the Portugal to one time his manager told him he wouldn’t be playing?
Indeed.

Either he’s not being professional or the club want him gone and have told him they won’t mind if he doesn’t turn up for pre-season. I wouldn’t rule out the latter.
