Feels like the first signing in ages made with the intention of making the team play better rather than making the team score more or concede less if that makes sense. If nothing else it’s surely going to be better to watch this year than the last five.
That was Ole way, you're either on the pitch to score/assist or to stop the opponent from scoring. No in between!

I'm baffled why some people aren't happy about this. Quite a good chance he will be our best midfielder, almost a certainty that he will at least be a solid squad player. Great experience, great pro, nice bloke, versatile, on a free. Bizarre to have any complaints in my book.
Yeah looking forward to seeing him play, hate comparing us to that scouse scum but feels a bit like when Milner joined them

In my opinion this transfer is perfect for us.
Creativity which we were missing for ages and we got it for free. Maybe someone will mention we had Pogba but for me he is not and never be Man Utd type of player.
If we can add FDJ or someone similar next to Eriksen then I think we will watch proper football again and I'm glad ETH see midfield problems we had.
Maybe first season will be without trophy because in one transfer period is hard to buy all missing puzzles but everything is possible if ETH will make some of our current players better.

Agree. For £150.000 a week it’s a nobrainer. If Eriksen in worst case ends up as a solid squad player it’s anyway a good deal:)

Great Bonus: Eriksen

First priority (critical): high class holding midfielder and attacker.

Second priority: RB, holding midfielder and CB.

I’m pretty happy if we’re able to land Eriksen, first priorities and one of the second priorities during this window.

The only thing now is please god no Kante or any more free transfer/cheap old forwards. Bring the age of the squad down and build experience in quality hungry younger players who can gain in value and reputation. Players like Eriksen DDG Bruno Varane and Slab can all lead a younger group. At this point there is no point in buying experience for experiences sake or looking for short term fixes in too many positions.

So wouldn't take him for couple of years until we can get Rice for reasonable figure

Tottenham shirts do deserve burning to be fair.

Just make sure nobody is wearing them when you set it ablaze

No. I really dislike these types of short term signings. Falcao, Basti, Matic, Ronadlo, Cavani, Owen, even thinking back to old Rooney stinking the place out and he really deserved every penny and minutes game time he got from us no matter how bad he became. Mata has been awful for the last few years and so on. Their legs are on the verge of going and they have nothing left to prove. The main reason they are here is because we are the only ones who can afford them or we can’t seem to see beyond short term big name fixes. Look how that worked out for us at striker this summer?

RVP was an amazing stopgap. Hopefully Eriksen is the same. It’s the exception to the rule and shouldn’t be the automatic fallback position.

He is playing a lot deeper nowadays. Could be part of mid 3 in the big games with Bruno wide or the playmaker when FDJ is not available

I think what the club want to do is sign someone for 30 million for 2 years and chase Rice. Like we did with Ronadlo - Haaland at striker. We couldn’t organise a pissup in a pub so I just see us getting stuck with these players much longer term than anticipated and then we miss out on the long term target too because our team isn’t competitive enough. You need players in their prime to catch up. It’s not like we have anything to consolidate is it? I’d just let Garner play there next season while we get the finances in order for the second big ETH window.

Exactly. A far cry from the jokers we had before.

Interesting that Ten Hag would go hard after FDJ AND Eriksen when we have VDB coming back too. Someone he knows very well and has trusted in the past.

I wonder if he doesn't really rate Donny anymore?

This is such a bad transfer. If we get De Jong, Malacia, Eriksen, Lisandro and Antony it will be god awful window. Backup AM, backup LB, backup-ish RW (depending on Rash and Sancho) and a backup CB. Malacia comes in as back up for Shaw. Given how Malacia and Eriksen will take playing time away from Hannibal and Alvaro we needed top tier players in those positions if ten Hag needed improving in those pos. 2 years from now we will be talking about how we have burned through cash again.
We have Maguire and Varane. Plus 3 players we bought for 30 mil in Jones, Bailly and Lindelof. Lisandro is such a bad buy. He has played, 24, 26 and 24 games in last 3 seasons, he is 24 years old. Played 7 games for ARG and ten Hag didn’t even know his best pos. Half games played in CB half in DM.
Eriksen is the worst age possible for us. You are going to have to play him a lot, and everybody keeps talking how good he was for brentfor. He only played 11 games for brentford. Before that he was criminally bad for the last 4 years. Spurs couldn’t even sell him. We will hear soon that those weren’t the transfers ten Hag wanted.
I know you want transfers but to improve your squad you need to improve your first 11. Not backups.
lets see how this rant ages. I am praying god awfully, but wouldn’t bet on it
congratulations. I have to buy a new laptop now because of you.

A midfield of potentially fdj, eriksen and VDB might be the most comfortable on the ball midfield we have had in ages, maybe even after Scholes retired.

Fred and Mctominay were built for a counter attacking game but ridiculous in possession. This may alter the dynamics totally.

Actually reminded me of Scholes with those long diagonals. Even his movement and position reminded me of older Scholes. Carrick was far more defensively aware and positionally disciplined.
Can say that with those long diagonals. But in any case, we would be adding some much needed quality in our squad.

Hoping that we make this official soon.

I haven't followed Eriksen or heard of him since his time at inter. What position is he playing here in a three man midfield does he partner the number 8 ? What position did he play while at Brentford ?

Can somebody confirm he's fully recovered after the heart episode and can run like a maniac for his coach and contribute defensively?

We can't have another passenger defensively like Pogba.

I think squad depth is important and with Matic and Mata out there was a space for a player who comes in for free like Eriksen, just hope he will not fall of a cliff after 30 or can just contribute more then the two mentioned. A player who comes for free surely on high wages from the day one.

How was his Brentford overal form anyway, didn't he looked out of place in the attacking system with and without the ball? don't wanna hear he showed class, based on a couple of great passes, we all know he can do that and that football is much more than that.

Here's his percentile ranks statistically in the last 3rd of the season that he played. See for yourself! Elite passing and ball progression, very involved, high creativity, decent goal threat, decent ball carrying, not huge when it comes to defensive work but he isn't a lazy player and does his bit. Elite set pieces too. When you watch him, he's always been secure with the ball, doesn't make stupid mistakes, is comfortable under the press, has a great passing range and is very smart on the ball to know when and where to release it. I'd imagine he is the midfield to attack link in a midfield 3, Frenkie will be the deep playmaker, and we'll have a ball winner around them like McTominay to balance.

Wouldn't be surprised if he plays on the right if we don't sign Antony, can work as a wide playmaker
Exactly.Ten Hag did the same with Ziyech at Ajax. Worked really well, Ajax almost reached the finals of the Champions League.

For example when Ajax won against Real Madrid with 1-4.

----------------------------Tadic
----Neres---------------------------------Ziyech
---------------------------Vd Beek
--------------Frenkie--------------Schone

Tadic: Strong striker, kept the ball and sometimes even moved to the midfield
Neres: had depth, speed, individual action.
Ziyech: Wide playmaker
Vd Beek: Depth. Had to play around Tadic
Frenkie: Playmaker + defensive strong (a lot of people forget that)
Schone: Playmaker

I think a DM is not necessary. Last time the Dutch squad used Frenkie at the midfield with Berghuis (he's normally attacking midfield/right winger).

So we'd have:

----------------------------**
----Sancho/Rashford-----------------Eriksen
----------------------Vd Beek
----------Frenkie-----Bruno

**: New striker to keep the ball like the previous strikers at Ajax: Tadic, Haller and Brobbey
Sancho/Rashford: Depth, speed
Eriksen: Wide playmaker
Vd Beek: At paper he'd be attacking midfield but he'll be very usefull when we don't have the bal aswell. When we have the ball, he will play around the striker.
Frenkie: Playmaker
Bruno: Playmaker

Seems to attacking and I know people will say: its suicide. Its not. Because Ten Hag will make sure that the defenders are defending forward, not walking back to Da Gea. So the area's between defense/midfield/forward will be close.

My conclusion
Ten Hag are searching for defenders who like to defend forward to keep the area's close. He's searching for players who are comfortable at the ball. This season we will have a lot of possesion so we can dominate finally again. Thats why the playmakers are so crucial in the way Ten Hag would like to play.

So, we think we'll get the announcement tomorrow? We want more.
Muppetiers on twitter (despite the name he does seem to have some actual contacts and is generally good with announcement timings) is saying Eriksen medical tomorrow and announcement tomorrow or Thursday, and the club is hoping to agree for Martinez tomorrow/thursday too, so that we'd have all of them on the plane for the tour on Friday.
