Working with ETH again, and having the team built around him, or CL football.

I hope it’s the former.

I am sure i read an article recently quoting Jorginho's agent saying Chelsea is his priority and they would be opening negotiations about new contract sometime in September.

It's really quite clear the Chelsea stories are planted by Barcelona and it's actually the one glimpse of positive update I think this transfer has had in weeks apart from the same stories being reported. At least it's clear now to the casual observer that Barca are still trying to wriggle more cash out of Utd.

Should the Chelsea English journalist start reporting of their interest there might be something in it but given the fact that we just signed a player represented by the same agency that represents De Jong. I am sure they would keep Utd informed if any other club approach them, if not for anything than to look after their own interest and see if we would match said club's offer.

they owe him what, €20m I think? I doubt €3.5m will be enough, but this is going in the right direction then at least. If they find an agreement on those deferrals, things should hopefully speed up.
Not an amazing source so take it with a pinch of salt.

This is where some higher footballing authority like the Spanish PFA, UEFA, La Liga etc are supposed to step in and make Barcelona pay what they owe. But seeing as they’re shit scared of them...

Although I think the Chelsea links are little more than planted rumours, but I don’t agree that we have zero room for player like De Jong. Both Jorginho and Kante are entering their final year of the contracts and both have shown signs of decline. Waiting until next summer to replace at least one of them would be really stupid.

I think we will sign a midfielder this summer and one of them will sign an extension, probably Kante. Jorginho to either be sold this summer or leave for free next summer.
I think we will 100% be waiting until this time next summer to rebuild our midfield. One or both of Kante and Jorginho will walk and we will make a play for the likes of Rice and Bellingham. Matt Law said last week that we will absolutely be in for the latter.

There are too many other areas in our team that need immediate work. Buying De Jong at the moment doesn’t seem like something we’d do at all. Not unless Juve or Barca themselves come in for Jorginho right this moment.

I think ETH will prefer us to go for an alternative than to have this saga drag on and only finding FDJ still in Barcelona when the transfer window is closed. The biggest issue why we're Frenkie or bust is because our scouting setup clearly can't provide an alternative...
Tbf United's scouting network wouldn't have gone for Frenkie to start with. They would have thought it would be too difficult an extraction job out of Camp Nou. Its a 100% ETH request.

Apart from there being a completely new structure of people in charge yeah
There's been change before, at this point they need to prove themselves first, and not just be given the benefit of the doubt.

Outside of that yeah, we've signed a player that's probably not on anyone's critical list of areas to be fixed, Eriksen who our competition was Brentford. We're going after only players the manager knows and that's it. What do the scouting department do at all? Fighting with Ajax to reduce their prices, because we spent all our time fixating on a player that doesn't want to play for the club and now we're being priced out. On top of all that our so-called talisman thinks we're shit and wants to bail.

It is not a stretch to say this window hasn't been great. We can cling on to hijacking the mighty Lyon for a young left back, and trying to not to overpay, but the team is still left bare.

Our most outstanding thing from the window so far is managing to get 10 million for Pereira, but sorry that's not really good enough when there's 4 better squads (2 significantly better) in the league and 4 more proven managers running them. If July mimics June I can see us struggling this season.

Regardless of what happens with this De Jong deal, im quite surprised that its only De Jong we seem to have chased in midfield. Its fairly obvious that we need a lot more than just one guy in midfield to turn that area of the team around. The old midfield group was already horrible but now, two of them are gone and the other two wouldn't start for Wolves. At the bare minimum, you have to be replacing those two or its a downgrade for an already truly terrible midfield group. Just De Jong will not change that. Just baffling this strategy of De Jong or nothing.

You'd probably have said the same about us buying Veron with Scholes and Keane back in the day, or Hargreaves with Scholes and Carrick. It's what big clubs do. Look at City's depth.
Maybe but it all would seem a bit too similarish with those guys. I'm staying positive on this one for us even with no movement..

Based on?
based on Chelsea fans like @Orc explaining how it doesn't make sense for them, and based on the fact that throwing in another interested club is often a thinly veiled attempt by the selling club to get the buyer to pay up.

I don't buy this apparent Chelsea interest one bit. They need CBs, they need a striker. De Jong makes little sense for them, unless Kovacic or Jorginho leave.

I'm pretty sure on this one he's just got his info from another source... revivo or something like that. Some Spanish source I've never heard of
relevo i think youre on about. Newish source but poached a lot of the top spanish journos. Like the Athletic did, took all the better journos. This de Jong story has come from a barca reporter, Toni Juanmarti. It likely is nonsense tbf

Apparently Malacia didn't make sense to United fans. Supporter in not knowing the plans of their club...go figure!

I was watching “Money ball” last night, now admittedly I know feck all about American sports and how it works but Billy Beane just phones up whoever and says I want to buy or trade such and such, a few seconds later deal done.

Now while I’m fully aware that this is a film and there is an element of artistic license that goes with these things but I assume there’s an modicum of truth to how they do business like this, I wish this was the case with football because this shit drags on for weeks.

Is it a stretch to say that this could indicate FDJ's preference is United if he has to leave Barca?
That's not the point of the tweet. Steinberg is a good source saying Chelse might get involved if our move falls through. It hasn't so it's unlikely.

Fabrizio maintains that we haven't even started with personal terms and he wants to stay. This is annoying now. Get it done or move on.
Personal terms can only be settled once Frenkie knows what or how much he is getting back from his deferred salary/payment. He wouldn't settle it now either until that amount is finalised -- that way he will know how much to ask from United... whether it includes additional compensation (from the loss in the deferment package) if he leaves Barca

I don't get how Barca survive all these back-payments owed on deferred wages and still function at the level they aspire to.

They're going to need to bring in serious money through player sales - and that would be beyond FdJ, and irregardless of financial levers it seems.

6 days ago? You have to really trust this journo's source if you don't think Chelsea have decided to make a move if they were interested. Why on earth would they wait to see if our move breaks down?
Certainly more reliable for Chelsea news than Romero is.

We'll pay you 3mil but forget about the remaining 14mil, fair deal??
I think it's a fair offer.

Write off 14mil in order to push through a move he's not exactly mad keen on, but Barca and United both do want to happen, seems like a reasonable and respectful request the player should jump to accept.
