Can't disagree there. File this one under "it's not my money" and turn a blind eye if it gets done!
It's not even that. This is the number one deal of our summer and will go a long way to showing everyone including Ten Hag that we are serious and that we are fully backing him. It's very important in that regard for me to set the tone going forward.

Also a fantastic player obviously.

Omg this guy. It’s such a nothing update he’s taking the piss now! Literally nothings changed?
Well we had a deal agreed but with everything going on with Barca it seemed they wanted more upfront which is what we have done apparently and he's reported the new structure.

Now it's time for FDJ to say "you're grand thanks I'm not moving"

For his player presentation it feels like it’s going to a Messi to PSG type where FDJ is crying

Yep, based on ETHs desire and insistence on getting him, this is one of the few transfers where you buckle when you need to. ETH wants his whole team built around him.

Nice - this is basically what I was predicting for several days. We'll add more in guaranteed + less in add-ons. More money in guaranteed will pay off FdJ's remaining wages. I think it will happen soon.
What if we walk out and find another target?
Then will we see FDJ hug Barce falling into the abyss ??
I don't think any other clubs will buy FDJ with this price tag in this window.

Mate, none of what anyone says on this entire site has any real bearing on the eventual outcome... I wasn't being serious, I thought that much was clear. But maybe not.
I wasnt being serious either

@Berbaclass - For your tremendous 1389 posts in this thread, it's only fitting that you accompany FDJ at the player presentation. You've put more effort into this transfer than his agent has!

Delaney going against Fabrizio but could well be that his article is just out of date. The interesting paragraph below though.

Having initially agreed a price of £55m with potential add-ons of £17m, United are unwilling to budge. It has been speculated that De Jong himself is still unwilling to move, but this is not the case, and the midfielder has naturally been in touch with Erik ten Hag, his former Ajax manager. He has told the new United boss he is willing to go, but the matter of sorting his deferred wages is a fair point of principle to the midfielder.

De Jong wants the issue completely clarified. If it is not done so to his satisfaction, he is fully content to stay.

Yup that's why we were comfortable with letting this run for this long and did not blink when Laporta talked shit or when Chelsea got involved.

Ultimately we really want the guy too, our objective is not to mess up Barca's financial structure.

So who is right? Romano or Delaney?
I think Delaney has outdated info. Romano's tweet makes too much sense. We give Barca extra in guaranteed payments, less in addons and they use that to pay off FdJ. I assume both sides will try to strong arm him a little and make him accept a small haircut (get paid 12-13M instead of 17M).

What I really don't want to see is us paying him extra weekly wages because he's giving up money at Barca.

It's a pretty big update, we've gone from 65m + 20m to 75m + 10m, the 10m higher guaranteed might indicate that they wanted more up front to pay for de Jong's outstanding wages.

Should just pin this tweet to the top of the thread page in the event anyone says ‘He doesn’t want to come here’ or a Spanish based tweet suggests it’s not happening.

The ulterior motive to taking the ‘Stay’ stance is getting that deferred money in full, and not letting Barcelona wash their hands of their obligation.

Delaney isn't a reliable source at all so I'd take whatever he says with a pinch of salt.

Yeah this is the common sense logical view to hold.

If it’s the case we should see some moment

Yeah end of the day he ain’t getting that full amount up front.

I’m sure they will top up his wages in bonuses for the next two years whilst he’s at United as I won’t be surprised if he takes a wage cut to come here. I say wage cut lightly considering he will be on £300k up

I said it the other day that something WILL give in and if De Jong refuses to leave he'll be forced out

Imagine your dream club having campaigns to make you leave  I actually feel bad for the poor guy, Barca have acted appallingly. This may do a lot more long term harm for them than they realise.

Do we expect this to be formally announced that he has signed by the end of the weekend? According to Romano, the only thing that needs to be agreed is the personal terms, that was something I thought would have been done first a long time ago, unless it's due to the wages he is owed by Barca and we are contributing towards that?

Really would have wanted him to sign by now so he could join the lads on tour. Same with Martinez and Eriksen.

yep, Delaney is garbage Tier. but Ducker is Tier 1

“De Jong is reputed to be due to return to training with Barcelona on Monday but United have been given encouragement behind the scenes that he remains open to the move, with sources indicating that they would not have progressed a deal this far if that was not the case, despite claims in Spain that the player has no intention of quitting the Catalan club.”

Are there parallels with Bale and RM? Both Spanish clubs trying to force players on high wages out.
