By far the most confusing saga I've ever followed
I don't think it's that confusing tbh. Team needs to feck him off because they need the money and he's not that important to their game anyway. Player loves the club/his living situation there. Would maybe be open to a move if staying was an absolute impossibility but will ensure that is the case first.

Oh and if he is to leave he certainly won't do so without the money owed to him.

I do probably think it’s just a standoff to get the wages but if he does really want to stay after all this he’s an absolute gimp. Have some pride ffs.

We need to move on from FDJ. Even if he came he'd be gone within a season. Clearly doesn't want the move. Time for plan B.

I hope and expect that he’s levels above Carrick. He was good. He had an excellent season in 2013 but he wasn’t a great player. He played in a great side but he was never great himself.
Ouch. A glaring lack of knowledge/appreciation for the finer (important) details of the game.

Yeah agreed. Not with the gimp but he’s a complete and utter idiot with zero awareness and self worth.

The source who’s reporting that has always peddled that line though so I’d take it with a pinch of salt. One of the Barca is heaven no one will ever leave types.

That's what I don't get. Imagine wanting to play for a club that wants to get rid of you so badly. Have some respect for yourself!! I still hope it's just about the money.

People who don't rate Carrick are generally clueless about football. He was one of the best midfielders of his generation.
if only had he been appreciated at the time

the most underrated player I can think of

There's no smoke without fire. Can we move on from this insufferable prick who obviously can't tell when he's not wanted? You're telling me Frenkie is the only player that can make us tick under Ten Hag with £75m to spend. It's not like he's been lighting the world up recently either.

Wonder how low barca will stoop to get him out. They can't register players with him on their books. Will be interesting this. Weirdly don't care about him standing his ground and seeing barca squirm

This guy really doesn't know when he's not wanted.

Why would you want to play at a club that literally doesn't want you?

Weird hatred you have for Frenkie there. He is an insufferable prick because he does not want to be screwed out of 17m that Barca owes him? Hope I get the chance to rip you off for a small fortune one day as apparently you will smile and thank me for the privilege.

We'd have walked if he wasn't interested...
Barca may have told us they are selling him anyway they can. Obviously we'd be still interested but it does seem like barca plan is going up in flames here

we obviously don’t want to pull out of this one because we’ve come so far and Arnold said to the fans that they ain’t gonna lose any more targets. Imagine the backlash if we’ve tried for so long to sign a player and we don’t end up getting him. That’s time wasted on replacement targets.

If he's fine being treated like that and is ready to stay in Barcelona, despite everything and with more than likely much less playing time, then I'm glad he's not coming here. 0 Dignity and pride. We have tons of players with weak mentality, could do without one more of those.

Read between the lines, he’s not saying no to United, he’s saying he’s staying till he gets paid, once that’s settled, he’ll once again not be saying no to United, he’ll be saying yes.
If that's the case then why not accept that and say it? Tell barca he'll go as they require, but only if they pay him. Otherwise he stays

So that's Lewa and Raphinha signed and talks with Silva and Kounde without any big sales yet...

They're well and truly fecked if they can't get those wages off the books or get him to agree to give up what he's owed and they agreed to

Iniesta

Ronaldinho

Modric

Off the top of my head in thirty seconds. Personally I wouldn’t put him anywhere near any of those players. He was a good player. He was nowhere near the best midfielder of his generation.

How are Barcelona able to sign Lewandowski, Raphina and possibly Bernardo Silva before De Jong has been sold? What if this doesn't get sorted and they still have him on their books? They're just going to pay him less?

That is presumably exactly what is being said behind closed doors but publicly Barca claim they don't need to sell him even though they negotiated and accepted a bid for him and his publicly claiming he is happy to stay there as by far their highest paid player right now.

which means he's saying no. If he is staying it is a no to us.
It's fine, don't worry about it. I'll put it a way that you'll understand.

It's Sunday. Leg Day. You're looking at getting some mad gainz in for your calves, but first you need to drink a litre of egg whites. But which illegal steroid do you mix into it? BLf-2iQQ-76++ of course!

But you look in your cupboard; no BLf-2iQQ-76++ to be seen! Fecking @Big-Red has clambered over your rooftop at night, smashed the window with a boulder, and scurried in again! Dammit @Big-Red!!!

So even though you really, really, REALLY want BLf-2iQQ-76++, because it lasts for 24 hours and is chemically balanced to release at a more controlled rate when you sleep, you end up using some of your BLASTOMAX777. Which is fine, because you'll still get to enjoy your workout. You might sweat more, get cramps, a swollen left testicle and possibly contract blastomycosis BUT at least you will still hit that squat rack harder than my dad did when seven year old me knocked over his beer.

-Frenkie wants to stay
-Barca want rid for financial reasons
-United want
-Frenkie willing to leave if paid his deferred wages
-Barca skint, tight cnuts fecking it all up

This is my summary. The only other thing I would add is:

-Frenkie may genuinely want to stay regardless of the way he’s been treated, I think this is unlikely.

This will run for days more.

The fact that Barca have told him to leave and we are still at an impasse, suggests to me he has real reservations about joining United. He is a quality player who would massively upgrade our midfield, but we dont want players on board kicking and screaming.

His agent needs to be honest about the situation, I reckon he is telling Utd one thing, Barca another thing and De Jong something else - it just seems a mess.

Not buying that this is just about being paid deferred wages before he leaves. I think he genuinely wants to stay at barca and is fighting to do that, which will ultimately result in them compromising on his salary. He gets to stay, Barca get his wages down & we look like we have been led down a garden path is how I reckon this ends.

Hope I'm wrong - I was really positive yesterday after Orny got involved but ultimately we have had no encouragement from De Jong at all, Barca are telling him he is not wanted and we are still looking like we are pissing in the wind.

This can't continue lads...
Would love to see how you'd react to losing £17 million dollars that was contractually obligated to you.

This choice has nothing to do with United. It's a standoff between Barcelona and FDJ.

A) he decides to lose tens of millions of dollars and take an additional pay cut to continue playing for a club that wants him out.

B) he gets paid in full by Barca and find a new club. At that point the question becomes does he want to join United or another club. If it comes to this, it's quite likely ETH is a big draw as is the fact that we're Manchester fng United.

C) he gets paid partially by Barca and partially by a suitor. We haven't reached this stage yet. If United says ok we pay the £17 m owed because we want him that badly, and FDJ still decides to stick it out THEN we can consider that we aren't an interesting option for him.

C has not even been close to being a possibility based on the negotiations we've been hearing out.

I'm not going to make any definitive statements about De Jong's true thoughts; frankly there's still so many contradictory reports floating around that I find it difficult to know what to believe. All I will say is that if he truly is steadfast in his desire to stay at Barca after all of this, he must love the club more than I imagined that the overwhelming majority of footballers would ever really love any club.

Hypothetically speaking, if I were playing for United and they were treating me like Barca are currently treating De Jong, I would have no inclination to stick around.

No one said he is the best midfielder of his generation but if you compare the positions he played with those players literally only Keane and Essien compare to the role he played for us.
