I suppose that’s a possibility that the words of encouragement Frenkie is whispering to United are totally insincere? A closet scouser maybe?
Always a possibility, but I think that would be extremely disrespectful to his old gaffer and also considering his agent has other players at our club.

Yeah because you'd definitely lead on a manager you have great respect for and would likely very much want to work with again by telling him a load of lies.

Am sure people are convincing themselves that this is a dead deal even though the sings aren't even remotely close to it being dead

Just seen the news that he’s turned us down

Fun while it lasted. Feck off De Jong. Eriksen will be better anyway

Now quickly sign Neves or something and let’s hopefully have money left for a forward, RB and GK

De Jong signed a new contract in October 2020. It's not a deferred wage, part of the press is using the term because it's convenient. What they did is make him sign a new contract with an extension and an increasing wage.
Ah, Yes.. I see stories now of the restructured deals.

I don’t believe anyone telling me that we went all this way including travelling to Barcelona without getting assurances from FDJ that he will come…

Wages are and will continue to be the sticking point, all else is nonsense!!

We may not be the best operators but certainly with ETH, we ain’t that dumb!!

And don’t trust Barcelona at all, they are assholes!!

You literally just made that up. There’s no news like that out there by any reliable outlet. The last real update is that we have a total agreement with Barcelona.

Let me guess... Sport article saying he won't join United under any circumstances but isn't against leaving the club

Probably he thought united as a safe second bet if things go entirely south with Barcelona in my opinion.

Though he give some positive response to united because of his family situation he never wanted to leave from Barcelona in my opinion.

Or its just public stunt by Barcelona to force la liga to ease some of their ffp rules. They tried but not worked out so relax the rules for them to work things in this window.

Yep that was reported this morning, I say Ducker mention it. Proves that United are deadly serious about this and they they believe that the wage issue is sortable. I imagine the walk away part is to drive home to Barca that we will walk if they don't sort stuff out

Interesting to hear Howson on his Transfer Review say he thinks De Jong needs to get the CAS involved, however is he actually willing to go that far.

Great contradictory tweet. United will pursue him after the deadline, but will also walk away if the wage issue doesn't magically disappear.
I mean it's not really contradictory. The clear implication is that United will pursue him beyond even the start of the season IF they feel the wage issue can be sorted. If not, they will move on

They're not going to relax the rules for Barca just because they got themselves into this situation. I imagine La Liga don't give two shits about their financial issues. They could have stepped in to help out with Messi, but they didn't.

What's good for one club is good for all. Make exceptions for one, make exceptions for all

To be honest, any of these finer details are way above my pay grade. All I would say, though, is that if everything stated in your post is correct I would have to wonder why Barca would bother facilitating a transfer at all. You could make the case that they just didn't think they'd have to try this hard to get rid of De Jong but it was essentially public knowledge that this deferred payment is a snag before news broke that United and Barca had agreed a fee.
If he leaves, they save his full salary for the next 4 years (including next season), which is fairly high, because it increased for this period of time due to his deferrals. They'd save a lot of "cap space" (and money). If they have to pay him off to leave they'd save a lot less cap space/money next season and only afterwards the full reduction comes into play. Yet Barca are inherently driven by short-term concerns, not by what might happen next year. So "paying him off" might not be a particularly attractive option for them. Maybe they speculate, that once the window comes to its end, United are desperate enough to offer him sufficiently high wages to lure him away. Something that is unfortunately also possible, is that Barca are just surprised by FdJ's refusal to leave and have no plan how to deal with it. Incompetence is a good explanation for many things. Keep in mind that most of this is speculation.

...clearly the wage issue can't be sorted if they can't do it before the window ends.

This has been a long saga already, and there's still some weeks to go before the window ends. If they can't do it whilst the window is open, then what makes them think they can suddenly do it once the window ends. We're then looking at a January transfer, or even the next Summer.

This is the time to sort out the deal, if it's there to be done. We've wasted years at this club with mismanagement, bad signings, and wasted time.

So when he's not here for those first few games against Brighton, Brentford and scousers who should we play there
I’ll let you know after pre season. ;)Scott and Fred haven’t done badly so far though have they?
I’m excited by Savage and Iqbal, and I’d like to see Garner too. He did well for Forest last season.

How long are we going to wait around?

We simply cannot have another Fabregas scenario.

That's an emergency signing because of a long term injury, not relaxing the FFP rules to ensure Barca get out of a situation they created of their own accord.
It doesn't matter, you stated rules can't be bent just because its Barcelona.

They've done it before.

FFP is being manipulated by plenty of clubs anyway.

Also, you never answered my earlier question... will Barca bend to FDJ's demands of monies owed? If not, then he isn't leaving as per the player himself.

But you still believe this transfer is fully on.

We shouldn't be relying on them to save blushes

The date mentioned by Jackson Tweet is not the end of the transfer window, which is (I think) 11pm on September 1st. It's the start of the Premier League season, on August 7th.

We're gonna end up with no one aren't we

No new RB, no new DM, no new CM and no new CF. Just a back up LB, back up number 10 and yet another CB

Feck this window, just start the season and let's watch some football

I think we're all forgetting that we're going to improve the players we already have here just by the training methods of the new coach. Let's be serious, the last season was horrific and no one had a clue what they were doing. We've already seen some obvious change in both pre-season games.

Whether he comes or not our midfield will definitely not seem as awful this season as it did the last. Especially with Eriksen & Martinez coming in and our young guns stepping up. FDJ would be a dream signing and would take us up a level but it's not beyond us to do well without him.
