Got a feeling we may be stuck with him for the season.

Can't see ten hag picking him evey week, think his best role will be bit part/super sub, will Ronaldo and his Ego accept that? Probably not, unless he can find a team who will take him there may be rough waters ahead.

ETH's first big test in terms of man/squad management.

Still think he shouldn't play another game for the club, and let's face it, he isn't going to waste one of his last years sitting in the stand.

An agreement will be reached with someone if they want to move him on.

Loan move makes no sense for us does it?
He doesn’t fit in with how ETH wants to play, he’ll be disruptive to performances if he plays and disruptive to squad morale if he’s dropped. So anything that gets him away makes complete sense.

A loan lets Sporting pay a small transfer fee and a % of the wage. Better than nothing. Assuming it’s true, anyway

Then just give him away

Completely get that and for what it's worth, agree he needs to go. Would just leave a sour taste in the mouth having to cover part of his wage for the year (which I assume is the reason behind a loan)

Imagine paying someone more than 350k a week all summer to look for a new job.

Footballers today are a joke.

My take on this is Ten Hag doesn't want him and the rest is a cover story where they agreed that they wouldn't outwardly say the Man United coach doesn't want him. Loan to Sporting or play in the prem with United? Not a chance

That was my take from the start as well. ETH said he had a "good talk" with him and it sounded a bit suspicious.

Doesn't make any sense though, does it? I get he's desperate to play CL but with Sporting he'll play 6, max 8 games in CL next season. And going to Portugal after being publicly rejected by Chelsea, Bayern and PSG ( true or not that is the public perception now), makes it look he's done at the top level. Would he be happy doing that?

Either be a squad player/rotation guy here, or go find a new club. Cover story can be whatever because of who he is to make him look good. There's no way that Ronaldo would ever pick that option over being a starter at United at this stage.

It makes sense from a United and ten hag perspective. He probably told him he's a squaddie if he stays, so he can look for a new club if he wants. Failed to find a new club, so is going the hometown club angle. Competitively, he wouldn't pick CL group stages and out over a top 6 PL side. Kinda just makes sense like this.

Does United have an option to extend his contract? I am asking since I think that (in Germany) you cannot loan someone out whose contract is ending next year.
Are there different rules in England?

Sporting would pay a modest loan fee I guess and I can’t see them covering more than 100k of his wages, which would mean we’re on the hook for the bulk of his wages.

There is a +1 option. So seems to be ok as we loaned Tahith Chong and Dylan Levitt out last season in the same position (and then took up the option on both).

So when Bayern said they weren't interested they weren't lying.

I don't see the benefit in loaning Ronaldo. We are due to pay him £25m this season, give or take. Sporting may contribute a bit of that but they won't pay the lionshare. They don't have that kind of cash.

Negotiate a break in the contract and let him sign with Sporting. Whatever pay off we give him should be less than £20m we'll inevitably end up paying if he goes on loan.

But doesn’t that mean that you would have to commit to him a further year (at 500k pw) in order to loan him out? I cannot see that happening

No, it wouldn't mean that we have to extend the contract.
