I’m not really in a position to explain either Liverpool or United’s fitness regimes, as I have only snippets of information. I can only guess and wonder. I think there may be something in that Klopp spent a few seasons at Liverpool before he got them to the level we’re talking about, and match stamina and being defensively sound (finding sustainable levels of high pressing) seemed a big part of it. I imagine it takes at least a two to three good preseasons to lift the physical level to the requirements to sustainably being able to play Klopp’s brand of football at a WC level.

It was also easy to see Liverpool struggling like United after the covid break season, even with a longer break than us, they lost 7-2 to Villa when we lost 6-1 to Spurs.
Solskjær’s United where actually better than Klopp’s Liverpool across the board for one and a half season in that period, and if you look at the games played, it is evident that Liverpool’s relative slump in form
did not begin or end with Van Dijk’s much bespoke injury. So I’m guessing the covid years effected their ability to play their style of football to full effect, even if they had a better platform (more preseasons of optimal training) than we had.

All this to say that I’m slightly optimistical that we might see a raise in production from a few of these players who disappointed the most during last season, and even more so next season. Depending on how the Quatar Bloodwashing Championship affects clubs.
Check when Spurs beat us 6:1 and when Villa beat Liverpool. It wasn't when you think it was.

I’ve checked, and it was when I thought it was. 4th of octobre 2020. I think United had like one total week of preseason whereas liverpool had had something like three or four.
Yes, agree, it was us and City in the worst state. I got my dates wrong when I originally replied to you.

Gaz. Is a Mewling Quim.
If there's one thing in common among top top managers that succeed in PL is that they're all eccentric. Fergie always chewed on gums, Klopp is a maniac, Pep is a weirdo, Ranieri did the impossible but he also did dilly dong dilly dong. While the normal ones that looked nice, well educated and well spoken ended up being average managers (Ole, Lampard being the latest example). I'm glad ETH is eccentric himself which means chances are he'll be a success, especially after reading about him being meticulous and a perfectionist.
Does chewing gum really make you an eccentric? Same with Ranieri, I don’t really see how either of those characters fit as being eccentric to be honest.

Ten Hag reportedly prefers to do his fitness work on the grass with the ball.
I think that's not new and if i'm right, Guardiola does this too. It's all irrelevant until 10 games in, then everyone will have a clear picture.

Can you elaborate on this
We have established facts based on Arnold hiring a consultancy to question employees, restructure and hire best in class. Plus some of the assessments made by Rangnick. Zlatan, Mourinho both made comments about certain things.

A user here made similar comments based on a connection he has in marketing which corroborated with opinion passed on to me from an apprentice coach who had worked at several premier league and championship clubs which basically implied that at Manchester United there was a resistance to take on board new ideas, that the "Manchester United way" had a broader spectrum than just tactics, ie there was a way things were done in training, the use of data to analyse players etc that was the way it was always done and anybody wishing to make changes or suggest new things was shot down.

I don't know how true any of it is, just conjecture based on what seems to be an opinion that comes out of United.

Nobody was saying it was new and exclusive to Ten Hag. The conversation was surrounding the fitness work we do in comparison to for example Spurs.

So far I have total faith in Ten Hag. Not even worried.

Signing Martinez for a whopping €55+ m instead of Torres is maybe a gamble but at the same time it‘s good we buy players our manager knows. I hope he‘s brave enough to keep Martial as a starter even if Ronaldo returns. If we can finalize the deal with FdJ we look quite solid on all fronts. A CL qualification must be this seasons primary goal. Winning EL a bonus.

Next season it’s time to set the bar higher but so far I feel more then comfortable with our new manager. Actually I can’t remember being so positive in a long time.

Man Utd has got a great manager. Although i rate his successor Afred Schreuder high, I rate Ten Hag the highest. He is after Cruijff and Rinus Michels my best manager of ajax all time

We don't have to press full 90 mins, we press until we have 3 or 4-0 lead then we can afford to take our feet off the pedal. That's how Liverpool and City does it.
Exactly, you're fecked if you spend 90 minutes a game pressing. The key is actually to win the game in the first 30 minutes - if you're 2 goals clear, you demoralise the opposition and put the onus on them to get back into the game. You can then kill them on the break.

Bayern have signed 3 Ajax/ex Ajax players in the same window, he got so much shit for signing one.

Would have loved to see at least 2 of them joining us, Mazraoui and Gravenberch.

Isn’t this what people said about Matic and Fabinho?

It also makes sense to get players who understand his system Day 1. Get Martinez fit and he’s good to go.

Comparing an aging Matic who's best times were behind him to a young Martinez is a bit different.

In this occasion Martinez would be the Fabinho, somebody like Schone would be the Matic.

Also IIRC, most wanted Fabinho at that time.

Liverpool didn’t really do 3/4 nil wins last season. From December 4 last season they won by more than 2 goals three times in the league. One was against us which doesn’t count!
It’s really not easy to do in our league and are so rare that you can’t really build around it

Yep, it’s not about “pressing until you’re 3-0 up”. It’s more the fact that Liverpool and City are so good at keeping the ball they don’t have to press all that often. If you look at the stats from their players rarely any of them will have good numbers for pressures per 90.

First season, I think we will get Top 4 comfortably or at least a CL place (5th may get CL spot next year due to new UEFA rules).

What I want to see most is the team can play attacking football with a clear style of play as a team. Also, players showing good fitness and grit.

Albeit first season will be inconsistent.

Without seeing it, my guess was gonna be, "Because they're cheaper than English players."
Yeah. Essentially was asked why going after players from dutch league, he said he'd love to sign English players, but the quality and price has to match up.

It's gonna be McFred next season, isn't it?

Those comments regarding Maguire and Ronaldo don't fill me with confidence. Hopefully, he's just holding his cards to his chest especially regarding Ronaldo.
