The salary being mentioned isn't THAT crazy when you consider there's no transfer fee. It's about £37.5m total over four years, which is about the same as signing someone for a transfer fee of £20m and wages of £75k on a week on a four year contract, which would attract less scorn/surprise/headlines. Being a free agent puts players in quite a strong negotiating position and inevitably there will be more such deals in the coming years. Imagine for example if Grealish had been out of contract when he joined City...£100m on top of his 6 year £300k a week contract, would be equal to about £620k a week. In addition, if any of them had the nous to cut out the blood sucking agents who convince them that the best deal involves the club giving the agent several million on top, the salary that a high level player could obtain would be eye watering.
He isnt even worth that.

This guy will not be the missing formula Forest need, coupled with the fact if he does go there they will more than likely be relegated and he will be searching for a new team again next season.

He will be off to the MLS before long, would defo suit his TikTok career more than his football one.

Our very own Scholesy came on Cameras to say things Lingard had told him about the United dressing room, isn't that enough to measure up his character? United even made a statement about players leaking information to the press and made it clear two(my guess is Lingard and Pogba) of those suspected of such act were no more at the club, what does that tell you about him as a person?
Hang on, is your criticism of Lingard that he spoke to Scholes and told him how bad the dressing room atmosphere was, and that Scholes then relayed that on national TV? I really don’t get how that could be a stick to beat Lingard with. I bet half the squad will have moaned about that to someone last season.

Witnessing Lingard do a dab celebration having scored Forest's only goal in a 6 -1 drubbing with Keane in the studio looking on grinding his teeth.
Can't wait.

22 years at United, sad that his legacy is so Negative, but it does show the entitled enviroment,
just becomes the norm, with little or no understanding of reality

France - can't win anything with Swedish turnips
He's not got limited ability... He went to a top 6 club and was one of their best players and not that long ago was an England starter at the World Cup. That's a pretty good coup for a newly promoted tea
In his whole career he's had two short spells totalling less than 6 months where he's performed. Both happened when he was out to get something for himself and one wasn't even at United. He's nearly 30 and would be earning just slightly less than Kane if Forest were stupid enough to pay that sort of money, which I'm pretty sure they won't. Whoever he signs for he'll be found out and end up sitting on the bench while players earning a fraction of his pay will be playing ahead of him. As for playing for England, scoring against Andorra, Panama and the likes may say more about the poor level of the England team than anything.

Interesting bit of info I have picked up throughout all this is his wages were most definitely £75k a week at United,

Always got told he was on way more than that, but evidently not.

Looks sedate in comparison to £180k now,

Do you support Nottingham Forest? If not why do you care so much how much he’s getting paid and what he will bring to the dressing room at another club you don’t even support?

He doesn’t even know you and see how stressed you are about him even after he’s no more a United player.
No you're totally right, how bizarre for us to talk about Lingard in a thread about Lingard.

Why does discussion about an ex United player on a United board stress you out so much?

Think it was on the sky sports news coverage of forest's interest that they said "West Ham are understood to be happy with their offer and are waiting to hear his decision".

So it's sounds like what you'd expect, that even West Ham feel it's not worth the risk giving a big and long contract to someone who's had 6 months good form in 6 years.

So he's either got to accept less at West Ham, or actually go to Forest. He knows this is his last big contract so I think he'll go forest and then expect another move if they don't stay up. Maybe he'll be focused on playing well all season for them if the penny has dropped with him that he's short on offers because of his form at United.

Quite agree.

The tendency to hang onto players and give them contract extensions after it’s become obvious they should be moved on hasn’t helped either. If Jesse spent his time actually playing football, he wouldn’t have the time and energy to do a lot of the off-field stuff people find so annoying.

You are the one stressed out about what he will bring to another team and his pay. He’s GONE, everyone had their wish, he left.

It’s cool to wish him good luck or not but to be annoyed at his pay and what he brings to the dressing room at another club you don’t support is weird.

I still think Lingard put more effort on the actual football than many others at our club did. I get he looks a little goofy and he does the odd social media nonsense, but who are we to tell him what to do on his free time? It's not like it takes him two hours to come up with a bloody tweet or a tiktok video. I don't think he lacked for commitment to playing football at all, honestly. The guy just didn't come through for us as often as we'd like and that's about all there is to it - but he did try.

Inevitable Everton signing in 2023 once Forest are down, his six league goals for the season enough to impress Lampard into reuniting him with Dele Alli

Going to be annoying hearing all about the £180k wage for the next 2 years when really it's likely they're paying a signing bonus + wage, and through amortisation like normal transfers that signing bonus becomes similar to a wage.

It's a good deal for Forest. £10m signing bonus + £80k salary for 2 years.

See half the Forest fans think they may be signing a superstar and the other half terrified of signing a complete disaster.
Just over two weeks to the start of the season and he's done no pre-season.
He's no superstar. My money says Perreira will do better at Fulham than Lingard at Forrest.

£200k a week.. Lingard. No transfer fee but that surely cannot be true. Would completely ruin their wage structure too.

Edit: a quick twitter search reveals the author of this article to be a staunch West Ham fan. The sourest of sour grapes. Highly doubt that wage is accurate.

Seriously, what the feck is wrong with these clubs. 29 goals at 29 years old is worth 200k per week.

You really are ignorant.

If only Lingard keeps up his numbers, he will replace Grenville Morris as Forest's all time top scorer within 199 years. In the mud you go.

West Ham fans throwing their toys out over this is hilarious. They were lapping up his shithousery when he was posting pics in their kit last season.

Shirley they can't be serious?? I thought we were mad when we renewed his contract to a six figure per week sum, but £200k is pure lunacy
Article written by a WHU season ticket holder. He'll be on big money, but I doubt its 200k/w.

I thought forest were making some astute signings but 200k on a 29 year old gowl, diva, reported leaker, with an inflated sense of self...very interesting.
