Confused me for a second there, as I'd nicked that exact 1 liner off Wiki, went to add it, and it showed up on your edit before i'd written it

But yes, while he's a Barce player, I guess it depends if that 2nd year and obligation to buy has been triggered.

It does sound utter nonsense though, as if someone will just casually take Griezmann on quickly, and get Ronaldo done equally as quickly.
Yeah I always refer to wiki as first point of call :)

The article doesn’t explain how but I’m assuming they pay the purchase price then immediately sell him. Who would want to buy him with those wages seems a mystery though.
Ronaldo +20m for Griezmann. Problem solved?

At the point where I just want him gone. Too much media flirtation here clearly wants a move and to be honest probably causes more headaches and can’t be planned around in the long term.

He’s undoubtedly an amazing striker but everything has to be tailored for him and I think he’s just at that point in his career where maybe it’s not worth it.

Sell him and bring in a pressing forward like Jonathan David.

Brand CR7 won’t ever be done mate. He’s the biggest start in the world with almsir double the followers of any other person on social media platforms.

He’s too big of a star and too big of an attraction in football.
Absolute nonsense.

You’ll hardly hear of him outside the game within about 5 years of him retiring. He isn’t Beckham-esque level of celebrity and he certainly won’t be close to the likes of Michael Jordan who you’re putting him at the level of with comments like that.

Would the Caf be up for a straight swap for Griezmann?

Cannot see Ronaldo co existing with Simeone at Atletico. Surely be fireworks within 3 months. Would be great to witness

Not for me. Would rather just get back something near what we paid for him and put it towards someone we want.

Seems to be a lot of them here to be fair. Maybe it is how things are going nowadays but for the life of me I cannot understand people who put a player over their club

Can you cut out the insults just to defend a footballer who is chilling somewhere unaware of the conversation.

Exactly You have to be naive to think other wise. If fecking martial and Rashford are your strikers you are not making the top 4. Those lads are boot.

Ronaldo is the only player on this team that guarantees 30 goals a season and if ETH is offensive and progressive as it seems he SHOULD get more chances then he had Last season.
says the guy ignoring the fact that United finished 3rd in 2020 with Martial & Rashford as joint top scorers (17 goals each) playing SF in the FA Cup, better than losing to Middlesborough and having the worst finish of the last 32 years with Ronaldo.

The same team finished PL 2nd with Bruno as the main goal scorer in 2021 with the team scoring 73 goals.
It looks rather United needs Ronaldo to leave as most say here so that United can find its rhythm again as goal scoring has not been their main issue.

On a side note, thank goodness we didn't buy Griezo for 100m those years back.

You just know we'd have tried to shoehorn him in on the right wing or something.

Where is the insult? I never called him idiotic. I said saying he will be irrelevant after he retired is.

He’s 31. Why would we want to pay effectively £35m for him plus his huge wages? Only thing that could work is them loaning him to us or a straight swap but then they’re effectively paying 40m euros for Ronaldo.
Because it's you and your unmatched negotiation skills? Getting Griezmann into the equation might be the only constellation to get rid of him

There isn’t an insult but unfortunately the world is full of people leaping at a chance to be offended. It’s perfectly reasonable to consider an argument idiotic without thinking the actual poster themselves is an idiot.

5 years after he’s retired. He’ll be totally forgotten outside of the game.
Ah yes the guy with the most following on social media platforms far ahead of anyone else will be forgotten, he will be getting into a lot of different things far after he retires.

Castles is a Mendes mouthpiece at the best of times, so this Atletico stuff is definitely serious…

If Rashy and Martial can re-create their form that season, then brilliant.
But a huge amount of this very forum were being as obnoxious about the pair of them as some are now being about Ronaldo, urgently demanding them to be binned off!
The fickle nature of fans is just hiliarous.

You’re getting a bit of stick on here about this post but that is rubbish mate.

two ways to look at this

- as others have pointed out his is one of the most followed sports men in the world, he will still get endorsements post football from all sorts of fashion brands etc. we will see Ronaldo for years to come
- putting aside tie fashion / watches / commercial deals etc with Nike or Adidas, look at how often you saw maradona in the papers / Ronaldo phenom, Kahn at Bayern is all over the news in Germany.

Ronaldo will be with us somehow no doubt for decades to come

Ronaldo would be remembered 30 years from now. But the term idiotic wasn't necessary.
I know we live in a world where everyone feelings get hurt but let’s grow up here. If a statement is idiotic it is. It does not mean the person is, it just means they had a bad take.

It was a pretty dim comment he responded to in fairness.
You think he’ll have some Michael Jordan level celebrity several years post retirement? Is this just based on his Instagram followers (most of which will, as with all celebrities, be bots)?

His “brand” is nowhere near Jordan. I don’t see him keeping up with Beckham (who he’s undoubtedly bigger than now) once he’s not in the news every week. There’ll be a new active sportsman getting all his endorsements once he stops. Such is the way of the world.

I can go to a obscure village in the world and say the name Cristiano Ronaldo and they will know who that is. I know you lot are upset at the man but Jesus Christ…..
