07-09 he was world class, so 3 seasons in a row he definitely was.

Ronaldo was the best player on a team that won the title 3 times in a row, got to the SF, F and won CL and also was 2nd, 1st, 2nd in the Ballon D'or rankings in those seasons. If that's not world class in any books I'm not sure what is.
Don't waste your time fella, people are letting their emotions counterbalance any sort of sense.
He's one of 4 players we've had in our history who have won the Ballon D'or. That says it all.

Do people really think ETH wants to spend this upcoming season with Martial and a cheap back up striker they'll bring in? Of course he wants Ronaldo to stay.
Exactly this.
Probably the same people who have been slating Martial and Rashford for 2 years suddenly think we're good to go starting both of them every game?!

@Zlaatan don't be suggesting we were great the season we came 2nd. Everybody knows we were miles off, closed stadiums with covid. Liverpool's form fell off a cliff, Chelsea turned it around at the very end, we blew it when the pressure was on in El final and our counter attacking was found out eventually. I'm sick of you'se moving the goal posts here to support that we won't miss Ronaldo's goals.
Ehm.. what? I think you're either halucinating, mistaking someone else's comment from a different thread for mine or you're simply trolling. I never suggested we were great in any season nor did I move any sort of goal posts. Here, I'll repost my comment so you can have another go.

We managed to spread out the goals across our attacking line and score more goals in total the season before Ronaldo, and the season before that, and the season before that, and the season before that. It doesn't take magic to do that, it's just what happens naturally in a team that doesn't focus on setting up one player. You'd know that if you shared the reality the rest of us are in.

He was a Benfica fan though, wasn't he? I might be wrong but I'm sure I read that somewhere! I'll definitely bow down to your Ronaldo knowledge though.
Yes I believe his father was a Benfica fan, but as per his mother as soon as he joined Sporting at 11 his allegiance changed!

She herself is a die hard fan, she goes to many games and watches almost all of them.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
For sure, it's done! £100 to a domestic violence charity of the winners choosing (that was actually my original post/intention when I posted this first a few weeks ago - feels weird betting on this otherwise). I pay out if he ever plays for the Man Utd first team in any capacity, bench or starting. Ye pay £50 each if he doesn't - happy on any time-limit for this, ye can choose.

Fair play to ye, I hope I am right and the club never lets him near it again. I'd be really personally disappointed in the club if he did. It would really dampen my support, so losing £100 would be the least of my worries. I'd be saving on a few tickets to games and associated costs anyway which is a big multiple of that when you fly over for a few games every year from Ireland.

On subject of Ronaldo....nah, I can't be arsed. I just didn't want to completely derail thread. Everything to be said has been said from one extreme to the other. The person who said the lack of nuance/grey area in this discussion summarized it best a few pages ago, can't remember who it was.
@Port Vale Devil

End of the year? So this doesn't stretch out like signing De Jong?

I think he'd rather have players that actually want to be here, fit the system he wants to play and without the circus every time he doesn't start or is subbed, yes.

Obviously true. If elite managers wanted Ronaldo then he would be gone by now. ETH is an elite manager. QED. People need to get real about Ronaldo being part of anything but the problem.

Exactly You have to be naive to think other wise. If fecking martial and Rashford are your strikers you are not making the top 4. Those lads are boot.

Ronaldo is the only player on this team that guarantees 30 goals a season and if ETH is offensive and progressive as it seems he SHOULD get more chances then he had Last season.

Yep, I can't believe that Ten Hag can't get a system together to utilise everyone's strengths.
Ronaldo doesn't have to be prime Tevez or Rooney, he just has to shut off the right passing lanes at the right times.

It'll be interesting to see how things pan out though to say the least.
The only thing that really matters is the team's output, whoever plays.

Utter bollocks. He doesn’t want anyone to be the “star” of his team - he wants it to be a fecking team.
Every great team has its stars - Messi of Barca 09/11, Ronaldo of United 08, Real 3-peat, etc

Haller scored bucket loads for Ajax and a prime version of Haller does not hold a candle to a 38 year old Ronaldo.

Anyone who thinks United do not need Ronaldo this season is full of shite. United need someone who can score goals and his link up play is very underrated. He created various opportunities for his teammates last season. The best news for United would be Ronaldo returning and playing in ETH system.

I understand Ronaldo’s frustration, he knows he can still make an impact and have a shot at the CL under a well oiled team but his huge wages and the fact he only has at best 2 years of TOP TOP football before taking it easy in Portugal makes it tough for teams to accept him unless he takes a massive wage cut.

His quality is not the question it’s the financial aspect. Ronaldo outscored a prime kane and was #3 in the the top scorers in the league. He scored 30 goals for club and country for the season while playing in England…at fecking 37.

Kane gets to play Champions League at Spurs though.

This again.
He doesn't want to press. He wants to leave. ETH has probably already told him he won't be starting XI and then brand CR7 will be done for.

Brand CR7 won’t ever be done mate. He’s the biggest start in the world with almsir double the followers of any other person on social media platforms.

He’s too big of a star and too big of an attraction in football.

This guy was willing to join City and is now desperate to join Atletico. He'll end his career at Benfica at this rate.

I thought Griezmann was on a 2 year loan deal from Barca?

Edit

On 31 August 2021, Griezmann returned to Atlético Madrid on a one-year loan, with the option to extend the loan by a further year, and complete with an obligatory permanent transfer clause worth €40 million to be activated by 2023.[102][103][104]

Confused me for a second there, as I'd nicked that exact 1 liner off Wiki, went to add it, and it showed up on your edit before i'd written it

But yes, while he's a Barce player, I guess it depends if that 2nd year and obligation to buy has been triggered.

It does sound utter nonsense though, as if someone will just casually take Griezmann on quickly, and get Ronaldo done equally as quickly.

How can Atletico put Griezmann on the market when he is just on loan to them?
