Whether he ends up here or not. I don’t really like the guy already.

It is purely stubbornness on his part to see if he can make it work there which is understandable for any professional. Barcelona are still riding high on the Messi, Xavi and Iniesta appreciation wave after all.

If that is the case I would never go in for him again. Let him make a bed and lay in it. Would love us to face Barcelona in the coming years and dominate them with him sat on their bench. Ten Hag masterclass.
For a man who dislikes stubbornness, that’s quite a stubborn response to De Jong’s dilemma.

Only worry is some other team coming in and agreeing to pay the transfer fee and the wages owed? Is it possible?
Anything is possible, but i don't think it'll happen. If it was, it'll have been known about by now.
Chelsea were supposedly interested, but it was only reports from Spain saying that, nothing from the English media at all. Well, nothing that wasn't quoting the Spanish reports.

I'm pretty sure ten Hag has his assurances that he wants to join United, so hopefully we'll get him soon

there was someone tweeting that united discussed paying the wages/offered to pay the wages but it couldn't be done due to taxes or some other nonsense. forgot who tweeted it or if it was even reliable but if that's the case any other club is still in the same situation waiting for the deferred wages to be resolved.

They told him if he reduced his wages to help them, they’d pay it back over the rest of the revised contract. He did and now they want him to feck off and forget the 17m?

A couple of mill, fine, you’re paid a lot, choose the club/manager/future that you think is best …. but SEVENTEEN million when he knows they fecked him over? I‘d be stubborn, in fact I’d be fecking livid.

Question to those who have watched de Jong extensively: how does de Jong compare to Carrick?
Similar to Carrick in his use of the ball in possession and hos defensive style out of it (more interceptions and reading the game than actual tackles) but that's were the similarities end for me.

Frenkie is a lot quicker, much better dribbler and more press resistant. He also goes wandering a lot more than Carrick so won't always be there to protect the back 4

Why is that a worry? That would be a blessing as it would be the only thing to make United come to their senses. Chasing after this guy has been almost on a par with the Maguire transfer. They'll probably end up getting shafted financially in a similar fashion too.

Are you infact Heung Min Son angling for a move to United which is being blocked by the Frenkie transfer? The personal dislike might make sense then.

More likely a move to Barcelona, presumably for 17m per year.

If we had done no business I could understand this stance, but we’ve signed 3 other players while this has been unfolding. Being patient for Frenkie has literally cost us nothing, and will probably mean we sign one of the best young players in his position in the world. I’d say that patience has paid off in that scenario.

I think this could be a case of Barca using us to get what they want and that is forcing frankie to accept worse contracted wages.

We've signed 3 players, got Frenkie to come and i'd say there is likely going to be at least one more. I really don't see us not signing another striker. Especially if Ronaldo goes on load as is mooted to be the case

Chelsea are seen as the most likely but that is the Spanish media and he is not the type of player they actually need at this point. They are still desperate for at least one more and preferably two starting caliber CBs alongside someone to actually put the ball in the net at the other end and so FDJ would be low priority. Certainly a quick glance at the Shed End boards make it clear that the fans don't want him and see no need for him. I would also think if Barca do pull off the move for Kounde after what they already pulled off with Raphina then it would be a cold day in hell before Boehly hands them a cheque to ease their financial issues even if it is for a quality player.

Nope. It is to leave immediately given that he has a standby buyer with a manager that understands him really well. He can't risk it, it's a world cup year. 17m is a dwarf compared to him losing his own reputation and a spot in the world cup. Also makes him look like an even bigger idiot each day. Barca obviously doesn't want to pay and everyone knows they have problems with money, they paint Frenkie as someone unwanted and a nuisance at the club and it's getting worse every week. They are scummy, does Frenkie seriously think given enough time they will succumb to his demands without something negative as a "payback"? let's say that by some miracle they end up paying the money, I bet they wouldn't shut up about it and will make Frenkie as a bad example. We're talking about "more than a club" here, always on their high horse. Club and fans alike. Only a matter of time until Barca fans want him out if this narrative goes on, the manager has clearly stated he is unwanted.
No way LVG will leave him out of the WC squad, even if he plays golf only between now and November!

To all those saying Chelsea don't need FDJ.

What if Tuchel also sees him as a CB in a 3 ?

In true transfer muppetry madness. To the tune of Stan:

My team wants me sold, I wonder why
I went out on tour at all
Morning rain clouds up my window
I'm Avoiding Ten Hag’s calls,
And even if I could, i'd call my agent today,
But my wage from this transfer stall
Reminds me, that it’s not so bad
It’s not so bad.

Dear Frankie, I text you but you still ain’t callin’
I left my snapchat, my whatsapp, and my home phone at the bottom
I put two offers in in autumn, you must not’ve got em
There probably was a problem with our fax machine or something’
But anyways, feck it, what’s been up man? How’s Xavi's Barca?
I heard they're in a lot of debt, at least, according to Marca
If we have to start with Martial, guess what ima do?
Im gonna have to sell Ronnie
I read about Xavi too, I’m sorry
We had the same thing with Ole, that bitch wouldn’t play Donnie
I know you hear this everyday, but I’m your biggest fan
I even got those old Ajax training ground videos with you and Staam
My phones full of your insta reels and your pictures man
Your transfer turned redcafe into Rawk too, this thread is fat

Anyways I hope you get this man, hit me back
Just to chat, i don’t mean to nag,
This is Hag
My team wants me sold, I wonder why
I went out on tour at all
Morning rain clouds up my window
I'm Avoiding Ten Hag’s calls,
And even if I could, i'd call my agent today,
But my wage from this transfer stall

Dear Frenkie, you’ve still not signed for us, I know you’ve had the chance,
I am mad, and I think it’s fecked up you don’t answer Hag,
If you didn’t want to talk to me outside the Nou Camp, cos I’m subclass, but you could of signed an autograph for @Berbaclass,
He’s a little bothered man, his minds only 6 years old,
He waited in the blistering cold for you for four hours and you just said ‘no’
Don’t sign for City man, you’ll never be their idol,
Come sign for us, we’ll love you like Ronaldo,
Remember that time we met in Spain, you said if I bid for you would you sign up
See, I’m just like you in a way,
I don’t like Laporta neither,
he always cheats of his taxes, the cheater
I can’t relate to what they’re saying in their Tweets,
So when I have a shitty day I hide away under the sheets
Cos we haven’t really got shit else, so that shit helps when I’m depressed,
I even got a tattoo of ‘de Jong’ across my chest,
Sometime Barca will need to cut their budget, let’s see who leaves,
Like Depay, Braithwaite and you will be set free,
See, not everything Xavi says is real, but I respect you cos you listen
Your girlfriend’s jealous cos fans talk about you 24/7,
But she don’t know you like Hag knows you frenkie, no one does,
She don’t know what it was like for you at Ajax, growing up, you got to call him man,
He’ll be the biggest fan you’ll ever lose,
Sincerely yours, Murtough,
PS, you can play midfield too

Normally I would agree 100% but my issue is that this guy has shown no public desire to join United and just imagine he ends up being a dud, which is not beyond the realms of impossibility. It may not have cost us anything but I'm sure that there are equally viable targets that we could have got over the line during all this time.

You only behave like this for the Mbappe, Messi, Haaland, Kane level deals....not Frenkie fecking de Jong.

FIFA/UEFA rules reportedly prevent the deferred wages being paid directly by a buying club (in this case United).

I suppose there is no reason why Chelsea or some other club couldn't offer €17m more than Barca's asking price for the player (thereby effectively paying off the outstanding wages, albeit indirectly). This would presumably circumvent the FIFA/UEFA rules. It doesn't look like anyone is particularly keen to do this at the moment, which leaves Barca to negotiate a settlement with De Jong before any transfer can happen.

Going with Fred, McTominay and Garner as our central midfielders is basically giving up on the season before it starts.
I very much doubt Ten Hag will want to sign players he doesn’t really know this year, maybe next year he will be more open to that but if we cannot get his players this year he’ll just try to assess and develop the current group. This won’t be limited just to senior players in the squad but also youngsters.

Surprised no-one posted his highlights from last night. Can see how limited he is back there
Rather sad to watch. It's like the other players were told to not show for a pass, and Real was in on it. Definitely no enjoyment for Frenkie in that position. He should've tried to score an OG for kicks, since it was only a friendly. There was one pass to the GK that had a bit of mustard on it that looked like Frenkie was tempted.

One guy (Sbates?) mentioned this, once. Is there any other source for that?
