I just don’t really get why they’d need/want him. It’s always nice to have good players but surely they want another CB (hence the Fofana links) and a ST? Also I’m assuming Gallagher might now get game time if they don’t loan him out.
Especially the for the price and wage he would cost, it would be a huge waste of money for them and stop them reinforcing the areas you mention.

It's because it's bullshit. We've agreed a 70m+ fee, but now they just want to loan him out? If a loan was an option it would make perfect sense to come to us - he gets the most game time in a WC year and can go back to his beloved Barcelona on his fat wedge. It's just sport nonsense.
I'm pretty sure he'd start for Chelsea instantly, so there's no issue of gametime. They have budgets too and Tuchel just wanted to prioritize spending the money on CBs, Sterling this summer.

If they have to pay that 80M next year I think they'll be more than happy to do that.

Something will have to give soon with the season starting over the next fortnight

I agree with what is being said in the below clip, and think the deal will be done.

I'm sure a deal is there to be done as United wouldn't stick around if assurances weren't there. Why would we? We'd be long gone if we didn't believe there was a a good chance of us getting him.

It'd be stupid of ten Hag to just stick with it with no player assurances that if he sorts the issues with Barca he'd be happy to come.

I think you guys are laughing too soon. Chelsea specifically do want him next year when Jorginho's contract ends.

By structuring it as a loan, Barca will get Chelsea to pay one year of FdJ's inflated contract (deferred wages). He will give up on the other year's worth of deferred wages I presume. So it's meeting in the middle between the club / player.

If this is an option though I don't understand why we won't be in for it unless the rumors were true and FdJ doesn't want to go to a club that's not in the CL.
I'm laughing at Sport not mentioning us at all even though we have a fee agreed.
I actually think Chelsea makes a lot of sense for FDJ right now. He can also play CB in a 3 at the back like Tuchel wants.

Oh Chelsea is a lot of sense especially if it is a loan with an option to buy next season. Jorg and Kante are in their final year of contract, FDJ is a unique player just like Kante is. Not too much competition (only a UCL-less United and maybe a half hearted Bayern). Said it previously, I will not be surprised if they enter the race

I'm sure he would start, costing what he would cost, but it wouldn't improve them at all. Their midfield is not the issue and arguably is up there with one of the best in the league, albeit somewhat aging.

Again, why would he agree to a loan to Chelsea and not us? One year in the CL means absolutely nothing and it's not like they're even remote favourites.

How can Barca prefer a loan to €85m on the table?
If De Jong doesn’t want to leave then at least they can take his wages off the books for the year. Or they think they might be in a better financial position 12 months from now (LOL) to afford his wages.

It’s amusing how Sport don’t even seem to recognise our existence when talking about where he could go
I said earlier in the thread, i'm sure Martial must have had some kind of affair with the Sport editors wife or something.
Seems like they despise United at the moment, it's quite funny

Maybe they want his transfer fee to be added to next seasons accounts, it does say loan with obligation

Its not what we want to hear, but still a very realistic scenario where everyone gets what they want. cept us of course
No it's not. They've painted themselves into a corner now saying United aren't in the mix. They're not going to come out now and admit they're wrong are they?
They're pretty much the most useless outlet through this saga. I know it's likely what Barca are putting out, but i think a lot of it is their opinion too.

Theres absolutely nothing linking Chelsea to him aside from a meeting that people put 2+2 together and got 5.
Bayern i've literally not heard anything of them being linked at all?

If he joins Chelsea, I predict a riot.
I'd be stupidly surprised if he joined Chelsea.
They don't need him, they've not been linked to him in any real sense and do you really think they're going to help Barca after they literally hijacked 2 players they really wanted??

Who gets what they want?

In this mythical situation, Barcelona and Chelsea. Frenkie still doesn't get to stay.

Other than pessimism, I don't know why people think this deal makes more sense than him coming to us. If they want to structure it as a loan with an obligation to buy, why would we be against that?

1100 pages is a mighty fine effort lads and lasses

This surely gets done in the next week or two. Barca cannot keep forcing wage reductions and splashing cash like its going out of fashion. Something has to give and that's our Frenkie

Whatever happens, if he does sign for us I just hope he's out to prove Barcelona were fools to force him out and is committed to us. I don't want a demoralised player who doesn't want to be playing for us. It's a bit concerning.

Was not there a tweet citing La Liga official's opinion regarding FDJ's situation at Barca? The tweet was as straighforward as they come. I am sure the whole issue will very soon be resolved in Frenkie's favour.

The problem is De Jong doesn’t want to leave. Barca would be more than happy to take the 80 million and get rid of his massive wage. But if we could at least get rid of the salary for a year that would be better than keeping a player who's gonna be hated by the fans and substitute to Pedri and Kessié.

Is the cost really an issue? I think they have space for him on the wage book. No transfer fee involved this season. They wouldn't have to sacrifice any of their plans for this summer.

/shrugs

Who knows, maybe he sees the chaos here over the past ten years and doesn't know if we'll actually get back to being in the CL consistently. Chelsea, from the outside, seem like a more stable club than us right now.
