Considering he's connected to United and Barca, that's not exactly great news though, let's be real here
It’s not news at all. Which isn’t great, I agree, but not really a surprise given his stance to Barca is “I’m staying unless you pay me off”.

ha ha, for sure.

I want them to sell half the club next and spend it all this Summer, get the whole Messi/Neymar crew back together. The crazy bastards.
Win the lot for 4 years and go bankrupt in a fecking blaze of beautiful glory.
Would prefer they win NOTHING for 2 years and go bankrupt!

On a serious note, I wonder if Barca are digging themselves a hole for the coming few years. Presumably they are offering some new players, or have current players, on contracts involving deferred wages, which basically amounts to an I Owe You. If their business model is is any way reliant on selling those players further down the line, prior to the increased wages taking effect they could be putting themselves at huge risk if a number of those players don't agree to move. A lot of the players they've gone for recently or being linked to now are older as well, so no resale value, and at their age would be content to refuse to move. With Frenkie they at least have some leverage due to him coming into his prime years. I'd they eventually cave on FDJ, which most people think is the case, it also leaves them in a weaker negotiating position in the same situation in the future.

He kind of did though. He said he doesn’t think he has a desire to sign for United and thinks he’d rather live in London if given the choice
We all know he’d rather stay at Barca but he can’t without causing an almighty storm. As for where he’d rather go, there’s nothing more than a bit of muted speculation. I don’t dislike Mitten but having contacts won’t always get you the information you want. He’s being asked to comment and it’s his livelihood to do so but in this case he just doesn’t know.

That's coming from a not-so-reliable journalist in Hugo Guillemet, who mentioned Silva in a report where he linked Lucas Paqueta to Manchester City. No one else has corroborated both of those bits.
Gerard Romero said a week ago that Barcelona had already agreed on a price for Bernardo Silva at just under €80M. The first thing is for FDJ to leave the club.

Barca don’t need to sell FDJ as they have squired over €500 million by selling their TV rights for the next 25 yrs to a company called sixth street. They are also selling 50% of their licensing and Merchandising rights. Selling the family Silver so to speak. How they will survive with what’s left long term is questionable but for now they have the credit if not the cash. United, not for the first time, have been taken for a ride by a Spanish club.
It’s not about a lump sum of cash. They still need to sell as they can’t register their new players for the salary cap. His salary is too high

I think that will happen. Barca does exactly what they want. Frenkie will sign for us soon.

Could Barca want Bissaka and Telles instead of Alonso and Azpilicueta?

Yeah, I remember reading about that a while back. I'm surprised that no one else has picked up on it, but then again, Romero seems to like sharing information well in advance, so let's see how that progresses. If they agreed on Bernardo Silva already, then let's hope we see some action in the next couple of weeks.

If my pull out game was as weak as ManUtd’s I’d be baby sitting on the weekends instead of bar hopping in Tribeca.

Would you trust them to pay the instalments after he’s gone - after the way he’s been treated thus far?
Not 100% but if it's contractual, I don't see why Barcelona would risk the legal ramifications of not paying him. The only real risk is Barcelona going bankrupt, and as poorly as they're managed, that won't happen.

8 weeks to get 8-10m in a lump sum post tax rather than say 850k post tax annually is absolutely worth it.
Probably the difference between keeping that 5m euro pad in Barca whilst investing similar in a new place in his new country.
Plus, I wouldn’t be 100% certain they’ll pay it.
If Barcelona really intends to pay the 17M over 10 years, they are crooks of the highest order, but that's too ridiculous to believe. I would assume interest would/can be negotiated in any installment plan. Unless Barcelona wants to get sued by De Jong in a case they will surely lose, they will pay the installments.

Too ridiculous is selling 2bn + of tv rights that eventually might be double that for 500m so you can go on a mad 2022 spending spree, adding over a million euros of wages to your bill every week, all the while telling your current players they better leave or reduce their wage because you can’t afford to pay them.
feck yeah they will be trying some ridiculous shit with the payment, both the amount and the terms.
Would anyone wanna go through a court battle to get paid? However you spin it, especially with Barça’s financial position, it makes total sense to wait a few weeks and get as much up front as possible from a desperate club.
I think Frenkie will eventually take them to the cleaners on this one, wherever he ends up.

Can't be arsed watching. Gonna guess "something something £17m, something something doesn't wanna leave"
nah it was pretty simple. FDJ agreed the deferral in good faith, FDJ's ballooning wage over the life of this new contract is where that money is located, Barca are forcing him out because if he leaves it's a voluntary separation and they don't have to pay. So exactly what we've all thought for ages now.

He also ends the discussion about De Jong by saying Barca paying FDJ out and still getting a good chunk of the transfer fee is much better and helps move towards registration of their new signings, but Barcelona "want to have their cake and eat it to".
