The biggest mystery is how this has become a thing.

Nunez doesn't belong in the same conversation, never mind a face-off.

People mocking Haaland, but he'd be monstrous in that Liverpool team. They'd play to his strengths.

Some very weird takes so far. Haaland is twice the player Nunez is.

Nunez

I think Haaland will be spending a lot of time on the bench this season.
After flogging off Sterling and Jesus I find it highly unlikely that Haaland will be benched as much.

Pep no longer has any false 9s to tinker with. Maybe Alverez but it looks he is competition with Mahrez or Grealish.

I find Jota and Firminho more of a threat to Nunez if anything.

In the long run Haaland but it might take time for him to gel into the system.

He simply has a level of pedigree that Nunez, with literally just one oustanding season in his career thus far that seemed to involve serious finishing overperformance, doesn't.

I don’t know that Pep’s attack favors the way Haaland plays. I don’t see Pep changing it either. Sometimes the right player can be in the wrong system.

I think Haaland is more talented than Nunez, but that doesn’t mean he will be more productive.

I hope both flop, but doubt that will happen.

Haaland is the better player by miles, but Nunez can still make hay from all the long balls and cross spam that Liverpool trade in.

I don't think either of them actually improve their teams vs last year.

Haaland will do well. Pep has played with guys like Lewa successfully already - it's still not automatic / natural for them yet and it'll come as time passes.

Nunez will give Klopp a headache. He'll lose his false 9 in Jota / Firmino and so Salah loses some effectiveness.

All the Nunez = Lukaku stuff will look very stupid, that’s for sure.
I can see the technical comparison but Nunez is miles more aggressive, faster and works ten times harder. He looks like a good fit in this Liverpool team. I suspect he will have some horror shows too though against low blocks.

Haaland if he stays fit, that's for sure.

But I agree that both come into teams that scored for fun last season, so there isn't much to add there.

Haaland's neck is huge. Bigger than normal human's neck like Nunez's

He’ll find a false 9 up his sleeve somehow. Better a false 9 than a true 9 who lumbers round the pitch with no clue how to press or tackle. Just can’t see Pep tolerating that shit for long. It’s the opposite of how his teams have always played. There’s a reason he fell out with Zlatan.

They're both trash, but I'll go with Nunez.

Haaland is the most overrated player in the world! Another Werner.

Knee jerking if you think Haaland will be a flop. He’ll score plenty for them.

Haaland is a far superior player but Nunez is far easier too incorporate in the team as Liverpool plays far more transitions when left backs or Salah can cross on his head.

City is creating a lot, true, but they did so without using a 9, they had one more body outside the box most of the time, Pep will have to reshape the gameplan a lot, far more than Klopp who played with Mane as n9 and he wasn't playing as a false 9 or n°10.

Where was the white text re bench?

City will have to build their style around him now given the commitment in signing him and knowing they’d have to change their play, I’m more than sure that would have been part of the discussion when signing him.

he was making runs the city players weren’t used to passing too, will take time but there’s no way he’ll be on the bench

although Alvarez looked much more like the signing they’d usually make and he looked smoking

Haaland will score boatloads let's be honest. Darwin will sooner be a flop than him, but Darwin will score loads too. Darwin will probably be more inconsistent and miss a lot more chances, haaland I think only fitness will stop him from being top scorer.

Haaland is better, but he is not a good fit for Pep’s system. I don’t think he will be a flop, but I do think he feasted on a lot of Bundesliga teams that naively played high lines. He will figure things out, but I don’t think he will be a simple fix for their recent issues.

Nunez doesn’t have any skill with the ball, but it’s not difficult to see why Klopp wanted him. He will press and make dangerous runs consistently. I don’t think he will justify the price they paid, but I can see him netting 15 goals in the league pretty easily.

Also worth bearing in mind that Nunez has had nearly four times as many pre-season minutes with Liverpool as Haaland has had with City.

City look a bit behind in their prep, I'm not sure why they only had two pre-season games.

Haaland's the better striker, but he's more one-dimensional in his game. Nunez has far better workrate, and is a better fit for Liverpool than Haaland is for City.
