from where we are it’s probably easier for us just to support chelsea going forward and save face.

The London thing isn’t such a big deal as it used to be, in my opinion. Yes in certain cases but Manchester has grown massively and City have probably actually helped in that regard. It’s becoming a much better city.
I doubt that means anything to anyone outside of Britain.

If you do that, you will immediately be saddled with the embarrassments of missing out on Kounde, Raphinha and Dembele.
infra-blue, we didn’t need any of those players with lukaku at the club. he’ll come good for us this year.

All I can find is this one:

"His preference is to stay at Barcelona and collect every cent of the money he is being pressured to forgo.

But if De Jong were to be persuaded to leave Camp Nou in this window, the impression is that Champions League football makes Chelsea a more desirable destination than United."

Which is clearly conjecture and certainly doesn't warrant that thread title.

Where is this Athletic article referenced in the thread title?
If you check the latest title update in the threadmarks it takes you to the tweet in question. Not sure where the link to the actual article is.

Thats why, even though it's the Athletic reporting it, this has to be taken with a pinch of salt because it's pure opinion. Impression based on what? Based on the fact that Ronaldo doesn't want to play in the EL as the other Athletic reporter said a week or so ago?

Cool feature, thanks. Thread title definitely way overboard for something which is clearly just one journalist's interpretation.

It's just one journalist's interpretation and doesn't claim to be more than that. Thread title hugely misleading.

From how his WAG speaks of Barcelona then I think his Mrs would rather live in London than Manchester. She seems to wear the trousers in that relationship so don't go buying De Jong shirts just yet.

Is anyone more attached to this thread/transfer than the Thiago/Kroos/Strootman ones?

That summer with Moyes was torture. Went from thinking we'd get 2 out of those 3 to getting none and Fellaini instead.

Manchester is a perfectly decent place. Depending what you want it’s as good as London.

It is probably true that most people who aren’t from here or have barely been here might prefer to live in London as a very broad generalisation. That’s why, when someone says “Frenkie prefers London”, it sounds plausible. We’ve no reliable source confirming it but it sure sounds likely (and probably is true) so let’s go with it. I don’t think he will make a huge career decision based on that but who knows?

That was awful. Really, really poor window.

Who cares. There are nearly 50k posts in this thread about a bloke who might or might not change jobs this summer. There hasn't been an update of any significance for more than 800 pages. I think it's fair for a few people to take the piss a bit with the thread title changes if they want to, given that this thread is 99% drivel anyway (much of which I have happily added to!)

That was horrible. We ended up paying extra for Fellaini as well because of his release clause expiring (I think).

The Athletic article is really vague in nature. It mentions that "the impression is that he would prefer to go for a CL club". Common sense does suggest that FDJ and ETH would've spoken at some point where he could've said that he prefers to join a CL club and we would've been on our way to find alternatives.

If he leaves Barca, it is most likely to us. But it's been a summer of hijacks so nothing is official till he's holding the shirt.

It should be pinned to the front page of the forum for all times. A warning to all future muppets.
You still have much to learn, padawan. Muppetry doesn't live or die by one transfer. True Muppets will simply move on to the next rumour.

This is only 'fun' if we get the player at the end of it.

If he doesn't come, it's a Summer wasted. It'll be down there with the other failed sagas. Like the new Star Wars trilogy.

Ah yes, I understand it now. The first law of muppet dynamics. Muppetry can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be transferred from one megathread to another.
