I think we should have kept him and sold Maguire who would at least get us 40m+ in transfer fees. On his day EB was probably our best defender after Varane.
Dreamer. Maguire will be here for the rest of his career sadly.

I don't think any of those other seasons saw as many players leaving as this season though.
You'll have to forgive me on an uncertainty on whether I should count a person as a first teamer and/or a loan as important enough to mention, but following the same strategy as my previous list of ins, here's the outs (again, brackets means either a loan, a backup keeper or a less notable sale):

22/23 - 5+ - Lingard, Matic, Pogba, Cavani, Mata (Grant, Pereira, Henderson loan, Telles loan)
21/22 - 1+ - James (Periera loan, Tuanzebe loan, Romero)
20/21 - 4+ - Smalling, Dalot, Rojo, Sanchez (Lingard loan, Ighalo end of loan)
19/20 - 5+ - Lukaku, Darmian, Young, Valencia, Herrera (Wilson, Smalling loan, Rojo loan)
18/19 - 3+ - Blind, Fellaini, Carrick (Johnstone)
17/18 - 4+ - Mkhi, Januzaj, Ibra, Rooney (Pereira loan, Wilson loan)
16/17 - 3+ - Schneiderlin, Depay, Schweinsteiger (Januzaj loan, McNair, Blackett, Keane, Valdes)
15/16 - 7+ - Di Maria, Chicharito, Evans, RVP, Nani, Rafael, Cleverley (Lindegaard, Amos, Januzaj loan, Wilson loan, Blackett loan, Keane loan, Powell loan, Milinkovic-Savic, Henriquez)
14/15 - 10+ - Welbeck, Kagawa, Buttner, Zaha, Evra, Vidic, Rio, Fletcher, Anderson, Giggs, (Bebé, Chicharito loan, Lingard loan, Nani loan, Amos loan, Cleverley loan, Petrucci, Macheda)
13/14 - 2+ - Scholes, Fabio (Zaha loan, Anderson loan)
12/13 - 3+ - Berbatov, Park, Owen (Kuzczak, Fabio loan)
11/12 - 6+ - O'Shea, Obertan, Brown, Hargreaves, Scholes, VDS (Diouf, Gibson, Bebé loan)

I mean I could keep going but the point is we lose a lot of players more often than you think. The problem with the situation we have right now is that the sheer volume of losses in midfield and attack, and a lack of up-and-coming talent to replace them from youth ranks. But hey, I didn't really know about Rashford until he was given a start, so who knows, maybe we'll see Garnacho or someone similar storm into the side and make us think we were silly to worry in the first place.

Regarding Martial, that's massively gutting and I figure we're signing a striker regardless of his injury, but it'll be a strain on our earlier games of the season with I'm guessing Amad/Garnacho coming into the squad as subs.

Again, will judge our transfer window once deadline day has ended.

Any idea on the total wages off the books with the outgoings so far?
I’d guesstimate that (in order mentioned in the post you’ve replied to) we’ve got rid of 100k, 100k, 250k, 150k, 150k, (20k, 30k, 100k, 100k) per week off the wage bill, so a million per week meaning 50m off the wage bill annually.

Great start the season.
Haven't kicked a ball yet and its already turning into a toxic mess
Great to see all the positivity surrounding the club still going into a new season. :)

My guess, things are going to get a lot more toxic this season and the owners will eventually be drove out.
Does feel like the club is quite likely to lurch in to full-blown crisis mode at some point this month. A good result and performance at the weekend is desperately needed, if only to put a silver lining on the gathering storm clouds.
United fans, we're getting played again. Most of these journos generate engagement and clicks by putting hyperbolic stuff like this out there, knowing how many of us are out there. Things are never as bad as they seem.

Feck off Ducker, especially the possible line up,trying to panic everyone.
That's more like it!

It's alright, I'm from the country.
proper shit show this summer but perhaps just the first in a series of shit shows while we get all the players who will not be in the manager's plans out of the door.

I could see Ten Hag opt for building a young side from the best youth players over the next few years and largely binning off transfers except for when a player with exactly the profile needed becomes available. In the short term it probably means some pain, but over time, it could end up being the best thing we ever did
Has to be done I feel.

We didn’t qualify for the champions league so 25% off the wage bill due to that. Will probably turn a profit soon so the owners can increase their dividends.

Am I only one that couldn’t give a toss about these outgoings and their fees atm?

We clearly have plenty of room and money for incomings and these shit players aren’t gonna play anyway so who gives a feck, we aren’t in charge of the clubs finances so no point moaning.

I am bloody annoyed due to Toy Story puppet and his sidekicks incompetence we are forced to accept loan deals for players

I think it’s a problem across big teams. There is very little money around European clubs at the moment. Look at the deal Real Madrid did to move on Luka Jovic for example.

Bailly for 8m euro? I was expecting at least 12m GBP to be frank. Although if it’s the best we can get - so be it, better than nothing still

Doesn't help you pay squad players ridiculous wages though

Bailly is a 25m player we're having to sell for a massive discount because of the crazy wages Woody gave him, so frustrating.

Based on what? Blokes never fit and plays like an unreliable mad man when he is. He's obviously on silly wages, but that doesn't really tell the whole story and clearly isn't the only issue with shifting him.

Bailly has at least one good game a season. Admittedly he’s already peaked this season vs Liverpool in Oz, but that’s more than preseason pirlo ever did.
It's splitting hairs. They're both a waste of space and we're better off with a few million in the bank and them off the wage bill

No he isn’t. We’re getting exactly what he is worth as he is unreliable, injury prone. And shite.

Well he isn't shite - but he has that mistake in him that makes him untrustworthy - even against Liverpool when he was called MOTM (God knows why) he had one huge mistake which should have lead to a goal. And as you said he is extremely injury-prone. The first season he played 25 league matches - after that he has never played more than 15 league games in one season - that is extraordinary. So if we can get £3 million in loan fee and clear £5 million in wages for him - take it.

I don't think the games played per season should be used to evaluate player's injury-proneness. Instead, it should be games available for. Sure Bailey is injury prone due to how he plays, however he has obviously been available for a lot more games than he's played, the managers just happen to favour the other players.

Bailly is definitely one of our better fringe players. If he could stay fit he'll be a great asset for any team.
