Why are you lumping Rabiot in here?
Because he's petulant and his agent (mother) will be going to the press more than Raiola did, if the club want to stand by their claims of a reset then you can't be signing characters with baggage like Rabiot.

Rabiot is better than McFred, so that's something. I just don't understand how the best United's recruitment department can come up with is Rabiot.

Early in the summer we were getting linked to up and comers like Kone. We were getting linked to Laimer before the Bayern negotiations started.

How have we ended up with Rabiot as a target? Honestly, we may as well ask PSG to loan Ander Herrera back.

He’s better than what we have.. but again isn’t he meant to be an idiot? Can’t say it’s the best move for the dressing room.

Late on Sunday evening, JuveDipendenza published a shock claim that Manchester United are working to sign Adrien Rabiot from Juventus and Scott McTominay could move in the opposite direction.

Rabiot had been linked earlier this summer, given the midfielder is thought to be looking for a new challenge away from Turin. Interestingly, on Monday morning, David Ornstein has also reported Manchester United are making an effort to sign him.

Back to JuveDipendenza, they say Manchester United have come forward with an offer for the Frenchman, and it’s believed his style could fit well with the Premier League.

Juventus’ desire to sign McTominay is surprisingly talked up, and it’s thought he could suit Serie A and find a place in the Juventus squad.

Whether this would be an exchange deal or not isn’t completely clear, although the idea of the two midfielders swapping clubs is being floated.

Scattergun approach has started. Really underwhelming player who comes with a tonne of baggage.

Which makes it even more absurd we spent the vast majority of our budget on yet another center back.
One that very likely isn't suited to PL football at that.

This is another signing that if we wanted him it could have been done weeks ago. Definitely looks like a De Jong alternative and we've accepted he's going elsewhere.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt that we had some kind of plan which explained our lack of transfer activity but now we just look desperate.

Isn't his mother also his agent? If you thought Raiola was disruptive enough, this would be a new level of nuisance. Its one thing being a loon at Juve or PSG and a completely different thing under the magnifying glass at United.
She is. But she isn't really like Raiola because she is just ridiculous, no one take here antics too seriously.

I’m not sure that’s true. By all accounts his petulance was left behind with his teenage years

I dont think Rabiot has ever played under ETH previously or played in the Dutch league. Doubt this is true

After hearing what people who know him have to say about him, I'm not averse to sign him. It sounds like he could perform the DM-like role on a ETH system quite well. Of course also depends on price and wages, but get him in!

Beautiful curly hair as well

2020/21 Rabiot was:
57 attempted passes per 90 (better than McTominay, still slightly below Fred who averages 58);
90% passing accuracy (much better, more Matic levels than anyone else in our midfield);
Progressive passes 4.01 (better, puts him around 60th percentile or so, still slightly lower than Fred).

So basically if he gets back to more of his 2020/21 type of form, we’d have a midfielder who can pass to a similar level of Fred, have the stature of McTominay, and be stronger in the defensive areas of the pitch with his positioning, tackles, and pressing.

Just… very underwhelming. Arnautovic and Rabiot are the links after a massive opening day upset.

Are we… broke?
I mean he wouldn't be my first choice, far from it. In fact I think coupled with Arnautović this makes Murtough and the rest of the recruitment department look terrible, since there seems to be no planning at all. Mostly just wanted to point out that he definitely isn't a bad player and could be an upgrade on McTominay.

As for your are we broke question. I was wondering whether our pursuit of Arnautović means we will spending more money elsewhere, like RW or RB. At least that's what I am hoping this indicates.

If this paved the way for McT to leave the club, it could be the best deal.we've made..

Wonder if we could get David Luiz in and feck off Maguire next.

Would feel better if Mctominay is gone. Would actually be surreal if he goes. Might not be bad if we then get Tielemans also

He is terrible, in that he contributes literally nothing in the midfield: no tackles, no assists, no shots. He just runs. On the other hand, Juve is even more terrible as a whole, so you can argue he would do better elsewhere, like Kulysevski and Bentancur now at Spurs. Caveat: without real pressure to perform and win, any of these players (and more… like Bernardeschi, Kean, even the latest Dybala if you want) is a superstar.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
So those Mctominay out rumours - I don’t think it’ll be him necessarily but if we signed Rabiot and De Jong/alternative then we’d have Eriksen, Bruno, DVB, Mctominay, Fred, Rabiot and FDJ for 3 positions plus Garner/Iqbal. Surely someone would be leaving?

It really feels like we wasted the past 6 months.

Rabiot is the best we can sign?

Seems a panic buy after the opening day defeat and the performances of McFred (who would have thought, huh?). I mean Rabiot has been available all summer.

Still, anything at this point is an upgrade over McFred.

Who's accounts? He's never been the most mentally strong player, and he quits more often than we need right now.

If he comes here he's going to be worse than Pogba and Lingard combined.

He isn't even that good of a player.

It's Ornstein reporting it. When does he ever make up stuff for clickbait? He's as reliable as they come.

Why is everyone complaining ? He’s a far better option than that clown Mctominay

You know what… fine. As long as we dont have to see Fred and McTominay starting in midfield again.

McTominay especially. He is really not up to the task in my opinion.

Rabiot seems to end up out-of-favour everywhere he goes, including with the national team. Probably better than our current options but would still be underwhelming. Would adding him to our... shall we say.. challenging dressing room be a good idea? I'm not sure what to make of this one.

How is he on the ball? I think he would still be an upgraded if his ball carrying is better.
