You replied to me with similiar ‘reports’ about criminal charges and 17m in deferred payments.
All likely have some truth and some distortion.
The fact is Barcelona do not want to pay up, but in the end they will likey have to.

Also another club paying it has been explored and deemed to he potentially illegal

Wouldn’t have predicted we would get Rabiot instead of De Jong but that appears to be what’s going to happen.

Late panic buying similar to what happened when missed out on Sancho now seems likely.

With the way things are looking for Barca maybe Chelsea should just abandon the De Jong interest, wait for them to go into fire sale mode, and try to scoop Pedri in a year instead. :D

If another club can just give the money to Barcelona as part of the transfer fees and then Barcelona can just use it to pay the deferred wages, is that illegal?

If there are reports that Chelsea are willing to pay his owed wages, that's most likely a Barcelona plant. I'd suspect someone like Ornstein would confirm that with a source at both clubs prior to reporting with any certainty but you never know.

sounds like your selectively choosing which “reports” to read.

I don’t think it’s in any bodies interests to play this game of chicken, when everybody is supposed to be aligned on the outcome and at most 5-10 million is at stake.

the season just started with a defeat for one of the protagonists. The other can’t get funds together to register players and the player looks likely to be on the bench and have the fan based turned against him.

Barca pay alittle, United pay alittle more and de Jong leaves something on the table.

Or maybe the kids just poorly advised and too dumb to see the writing on the wall.

You can't possibly be this incompetent if you tried. United is seriously one of the worst businesses I've ever seen.

I am sitting here in disbelief this morning, back in his Ajax days the board would have to put there foot down and say no to Ten Hag signings as they would not fit into the club ethos. our board need to do this now with Arnautovic, Rabiot even next to De Jong would be a poor signing, i am just shocked that we have learnt nothing from the last few seasons.

As for De Jong, i am not sure it can even get more convoluted, i want to remain positive but this morning has actually been worse than yesterday.
Which players fit into clubs ethos in your opinion?

If FdJ were to revert to his old contract then his back pay legally falls due right now. That doesn't help Barca. The only way this makes sense is if he really does intend to stay till 2026 instead of 2024 and they don't want him to.

The subtext is that Barca now knows somebody else is going to pick up the backpay bill anyway and the problem is that it is the player who is refusing to leave.

'We wouldn't be in for him if he didn't want to come, the board can't be that stupid'

Oh how naive was we.

I'm officially out. It's not happening.
As soon as the Chelsea links gained some steam and teeth, I put a foot out the door.

The news of him prefereing to stick around at the club in spite of them threatening legal proceedings over their own contract with him now has me jumping off the train entirely...

What a glorious fecking waste of time and energy. Fully preparing myself for the nausea inducing camera close up of the embrace between him and ETH when we visit Stamford Bridge with him wearing Chelsea blue

The more the faces change, the more things stay the same

Isn't this just maintaining his current stance though? Just because they're trying this BS, doesn't mean he should forfeit the money right?

Yeah, this is my take away too. I still think he's more likely to stay at Barca than go to Chelsea, but I wouldn't be surprised with either outcome.

I feel sorry for ETH. I feel as though he's been sold down the river a little bit with the promises he was no doubt given

Can't see him staying at barca without taking a massive pay cut and if he does, fair enough!
