If this is true it’s even worse. Juventus have been actively trying to sell him for the last two months, what was the point of waiting until now and paying a high fee rather than signing him early into the window and giving him a few games in the preseason?

I also join the group "he's always been good whenever I saw him play". The issue is it was always for France, what means feck all as they pretty much always are superior team.

This doesn't sound good at all! I just don't get this over Neves or even Tielemans.
Might be because Ten Hag feels he can get the best out of him. I think ETH wants a ball carrier as his deepest midfielder. Rabiot seems to be the best out of the lot. Of course he can also be paired with Frenkie as Rabiot is capable of playing box to box.

Just by playing at PSG and Juventus makes him better than Fred or MCT who will never get in that kind of teams.
The reality is he is just a CM signing, ex-wonderkid turned into nothing special(he was linked with Barcelona when he was much younger), whenever I saw him play he was just mediocre. I remember him scoring a nice goal last season and that's about it.
Hope we don't pay 50m for him.
From Rice and FDJ to Rabiot and Arnautovic...tough times...

Rabiot has never been good as the deepest midfielder, he doesn't like this position. Also, he's totally average under pressure. His ball protection is decent since he's pretty big but is passing is not good.

He is a bit of a dick but that's not that big a deal. The problem is his overall attitude. Rabiot is a talented player who doesn't like to hurt himself during practice or on the pitch. He could be dominant since he's physically strong, he could cover a lot of ground as he's pretty fast, he could play as a DM as he's pretty good defensively. He just doesn't want to. He'll have his moments during a game when he'll look real good, carry the ball and move a couple of players in the process, but he'll also walk when he needs to track back a dodge contacts when he doesn't feel like it.

I don't see how it's going to translate well in the PL. He was barely a starter in the worst Juventus team in a decade and they decided to let him go.

Is he better than McFred? Probably yes, but not by much since he checks out when he feels like it.
He'll fit right in

This guy is everything Pogba was billed as mentality and attitude wise with less skill/talent yet we're diving right in

Why though?
He wasn't first choice, that's evident.
If the first choice isn't happening then you move on, I don't really see anything wrong with that.

He's obtainable for a lower cost than usual, young enough to still be in his prime at the club, as long as his attitude is right of course.
Because it shows we don’t know what the feck we’re doing.

Apart from the fact that he’s not been very good for Juve and most of their fans want to see the back of him and his mum, he’s also a player on high wages who doesn’t suit us. He’s a McTominay type player, a box-to-box MC. Also, one who picks up the ball and runs with it, but one who isn’t a very good passer. He’s also one who doesn’t play as DM.

I’d rather play Eriksen at 8 and have a good DM with him than Rabiot. And if you want to see the back of McT as an 8 completely, might as well have Iqbal behind Eriksen than bring Rabiot.

I thought he played superbly as mottas repalcement? only issue is he started to kick up a fuss about contract issues with you lot?

I'm surprised this thread is quite so negative. He works hard, is good technically and is pretty strong. Although he hasn't fufilled his potential he's also in his prime, he may not be de jong but comparing him with McTominay....

Juve fans mostly want to get rid as he is on final year of contract and already on obscene wages.

Seemingly his attitude has been fine in recent years.
It's his mum that I'm concerned about. She sounds and looks like the type to literally demand to "see the manager".

Really? I thought he’s at his best as the deepest midfielder but his issue is he prefers playing a further upfront.

The key thing here is whether we ONLY sign rabiot or he is one of two centre mids we bring in.

If he is the only one we need to be absolutely fuming at the glazers and management for yet again failing our manager.

Id fecking welcome that. Because If he isn’t playing then it’s Mcfred isn’t it? Finally we have someone on the inside who will maybe shout some sense into what is now the 5th manager to continue playing those two. Blessing in disguise.

I'd happily take him at this point. We nee a complete rebuild in our midfield, even if somehow we managed to sign FDJ, I'd still like to see another 3 midfielders along the lines, Two starters and 2 back ups.

Right now Rabiot is better than all our options, and won't be expensive. Rather have him than nothing.

I don't take him seriously, he's the same poster who had Aaron Wan Bissaka in his all time EPL squad and was mesmerised by the gegenpress.

He also lied twice in a discussion with me, which he was caught out on. One of the worst posters on the forum.
Fully agreed mate.

So Rabiot is Fellaini of 2022, panic buy and 80% of us here predicted this after pursuing feckin Jong whole summer. But truth to be told, it's not hard to be better than our divine McFred combo so...

Genuinely surprised how many people have such a strong opinion on someone like Rabiot, whilst also not really having a clue about him. It's a completely inoffensive and uninspiring signing, but he improves our midfield with a profile we don't have and has played at a high level.
He appears to be deeply unpopular with both psg and juve fans which is a pretty good indication of how good he has been at those clubs. Also the circus surrounding him makes pogba look drama free. How are you surprised people are querying the deal?

Given the salary he will be on, it's so easy to envisage him being unsellable dead wood by next season

He never played as Motta's replacement, Verratti took that role. He would have been incapable of it as his passing isn't good enough. Rabiot always insisted that he wanted to play as a box to box only and refused to be a DM. As I mentionned before, it's what drove Emery to put Lo Celso as a DM in a CL knockout game against Real Madrid.

Alabama but always Wales in my heart
Tielemans, Ruiz and Bissouma all are going for £25-30m. All three are clearly better choices than Rabiot.
Bissouma isn't going he is long gone and Ruiz may as well be considering we would be competing with PSG who are light years more attractive a proposition than us right now. Tielemans is still available and nobody is bidding because he is really not that good and definitely worse than Rabiot.

Alright I've read enough about him to give him a chance and at least be pleased that it'll be him instead of McTominay out there. Always fit, bunch of energy, decent on the ball and doesn't give it away all the time like Pogba did, but very strong defensively.

I'm not big on tielemans or neves as they won't address our lack of ball winning ability in our midfield at all. Also both are kind of prone to mistakes from deep. Rabiot is at least better at that. Just get it over the line, might actually be a very good partner to Frenkie if he actually came, but would provide more cover for Eriksen if we want him deep. Should've done this ages ago though.

If he's got one year left on his contract I'm surprised our transfer geniuses haven't offered to pay a loan fee for a year with option to buy at the end of the year

Last season he played 32 games and came up with 0 goals and 2 assists...as a central midfielder...

didn't think it would get worse after yesterday but here you go

Tell me honestly what is pl squad player wages? Rabiot is not coming for less than 125k with what he is on now. Plus you have been on here claiming that he is basically a top level, international midfielder. Rabiot is coming in as a first choice cm, whether it’s with eriksen, mcFred or tielemans.
It is what I literally described. The kind of money that a squad player in a good PL team would get. If Rabiot doesn't want that then we should move on.

I'm stunned anybody thinks this is a good idea. Poor player - same level as we already have - poor attitude, over priced and a massive salary and on an obvious downward trajectory. Also clearly never in our plans a month ago. We'll be desperate to get rid in 12 months but stuck with him and his huge wage.

Maybe just trying to stay positive
But you can’t simplify the game this much.

he could move the ball quicker to Bruno/rashford
He could show for the ball more often to ease the defenders
Personally I’d like to see someone in, I haven’t seen enough of him to make an opinion
I just know how bad Mctom is, I’d start Iqbal over him in the next game
