If we somehow pull off Casemiro, I think we'll take another stab at Frenkie and use Casemiro as a signal of our ambition.
if we had that sort of ambition we'd have already signed one of the many midfielders available that are better than what we have already

but alas, we've got McFred

We were never signing him, the glazers got what they wanted which was to look like they were doing something, FDJ got to pressure Barca for his money and now we look like we are doing a scatter gun approach to transfers which will end up in nothing

Murtough working 6a to 10p...honestly to hell with him and Arnold. This has been the most open my eyes have been to the parasites real intentions.

I think we are using Casemiro links to pressurise Barca to cough up his wages. The reason I think so is because you have media outlets reporting we’re willing to pay 80M euros. That’s crazy!
Yeah that could be.. No matter how many levers Barca pull, I’m sure they’d love the transfer funds and wages saved if Frenkie leaves which is close to 170m or so..

The only problem is that at first it was just us willing to pay but now Chelsea are in the mix too.. so even if he does leave it’s not guaranteed that he’ll pick us over Chelsea..

Seems like he led us on all summer and had no intention of signing. Pretty sh** on his part. Thankfully Xavi and Barca are the vengeful type and will make him pay for staying.
Did he actually lead us on or were we stupid enough to always think he was attainable no matter what?

He never led us on. He never said anything about joining us. Not sure why anyone would blame de Jong for this

United management may be slightly incompetent and new at their jobs but they are not foolish enough to pursue someone for 4 months without encouragement from the player.

Which is why I’m still one of those that thinks this deal could still happen.. I think if Xavi continues to bench him during the next game or two we could see a final day blockbuster.. he’ll agree to the move if Barca agrees to paying the deferred wages in full..

News is he hasn’t been happy with Barca and the way they’ve been outspoken about his transfer all summer so if he also notices he’ll largely be a bench player he may just eventually cave in and be like feck it I’m out..

I'm starting to think they are that incompetent. The evidence just keeps pilling up

Seems we're looking to spend the De Jong money and any leftover elsewhere and this long shot is over.

I do think Barca will find they will play him more than expected and he can work his way back into their plans short term. He'll be more motivated than ever to make it work for his wife and himself and come to some contract arrangement with earned money paid and then be put on the new structure but if not they sell him in the next summer or two and get Silva in.

Always thought this was a gamble/long shot and hinged on how hard Barca push him out. We've been encouraged by Barca and agreed a fee early on. I'm sure the player was open under certain criteria, it's our fault to gamble and deal with uncertainties and issues. There was a telling tweet/report early on in the saga about Barca needing to convince the player to leave.

130 million for Felix yet we struggle to close this deal. This only points to the obvious fact that FdJ never wanted to come.

Depends on the agent. While the player just tells his agent to keep every door open just in case, the agent can pursue his own agenda. Don't forget that the agent is after a big paycheck. He doesn't get anything, if Frenkie just stays on the current contract. But he gets his 10%+ commission with a transfer. So no harm in encouraging a big club to stay on it with the hope the player might give in at some point.
From my feeling, Dursun is exactly that kind of type. Refuses to sit down with Alemany, rages and insults reporters at the airport why they are filming him, while everyone knows how spain reporters work. Pressures barca to give Braithwaite a letter of freedom and pay him the remaining years of the contract, so he can get a double paycheck. In my opinion, this guy is controlled by feelings (proud, angry) and that isn't professional. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if he acted like I said.

How the agent has acted is exactly called being professional and he is looking after the players interests. That’s his main job. The audacity of Barca fans and management to call the agent of FDJ and the player himself as unprofessional is quite frankly cnutish and bottom of the barrel scum!

Wow this thread has really died down :( I still have confidence but I think it'll likely be an end of the window rush job

Clearly they aren’t that desperate to sell like was made out.

We never know. Maybe FDJ give in a weak vague hint and using us to push his position in Barcelona.

He never publicly said he wanted to come, nor he publicly said he dont want to come

For all reason it could have been us who's overeager thinking he'd love to come here

I dont see a dot of reason FDJ would want to come here Ten Hag or no Ten Hag. We're a clusterfeck of a mess we cant beat the mighty Brentford
