When city signed Fernandinho he was a similar age and they got 5 good years out of him. Casemiro is a better player by far and there’s no reason he can’t do very similar to a high level. Would be an outstanding signing at any cost.
Fernandinho was two years younger. And he had played far less senior football at the highest level. It is not just age that wears on the physique of a player. Minutes of football is also a huge factor. There is a reason why a player like Vardy is still playing, while Rooney was finished several years ago. It is not because Vardy is more talented.

It is also worth remembering that Fernandinho had a much smaller salary, making him lower risk.

Signing players with this type of profil is so smart:

- Schweinsteiger
- di Maria
- Falcao
- Varane
- Cavani
- Ronaldo

Keep them coming! Such a great recipe for success!
He'd still probably be a very good signing in the short term but there were so many options at the start of this window. We knew we needed to rebuild the midfield and we've brought in one 30 year old in Eriksen and now we're looking to bring in another in Casemiro. Its literally the opposite to how the successful teams in the league operate.

Meh, there are better ways to spend 60-70m. Lets see who else we bring in.

FdJ is off now, which is a pity. Would have taken him over Casemiro easily. We still need another midfielder
Such as? Be specific

He does. But the attack in front of them is better functioning and works a lot smoothly than what we're currently seeing. I'm not against the pairing, just not totally convinced by it without other reinforcements to our attack.
We won’t fix everything in one window.

Need to be tougher to beat first

Which if these were world class and best in their position when we signed them?

I'll wait.
None was as expensive either.

I'm way more positive towards Casemiro than I was towards any of these players. But their is still a huge risk involved, and the strategy is flawed!

(And I remember people calling Varana world class a year ago.)

Am desperate to see just any ounce of added bite, ball winning/legal dark arts and basic passing in our midfield. This guy would be like a drug, no matter how expensive

People sounds like we have plenty of options, but we don’t. We simply don’t. DM has always been the single most problematic position for us in years, Despite his age, Casemiro would definitely be nearly ideal solution for us in next 3-4 years or so.

Di Maria arguably and he was class for us initially until he became unsettled in the city and fell out with the manager

Di Maria came off a sensational season for Madrid when we signed him
To be fair di Maria probably was considering he just had a cl winning season back then.
Aye, he was a world class winger who actually came off his final season in Madrid playing central midfield.

Though like @JPRouve said, he was still quite good for us, until he fell out with LVG.

What a load of tripe!

Schweinsteiger - Was finished and everyone knew it
Di Maria - Never wanted the move. PSG wanted him but would fail FFP so they got him the season after
Varane - It's far too early to judge
Cavani - Nothing like the same profile.
Ronaldo - Not the same profile but his 24 goals last year would say you're wrong
Falcao - Came with a couple of real bad injuries and again, he wasn't at the peak of his powers when he came

Casemiro is at the top of his powers and is still only 30...30! People are talking like he's getting on for 40. Casemiro is currently one of the best destroyers in the world and our side could do with more warriors he is certainly one of those.

The only issue for me is that Casemiro cannot be the sole midfield signing. He fixes the fact that our midfield would finally have a player who can play as a no.6 and knows how to actually position himself to protect a defence, but he doesn’t do much in the way of a being a midfielder who helps us run a game and use the ball well. Need a nifty partner beside or slightly in front of him if it’s a 433.
He isn’t, we have also bought Eriksen.

It’s going to be Casemiro + VDB/Fred + Eriksen. It’s going to be very solid and well balanced midfield 3.

Brilliant player. £60 mil seems a lot though for a player with about 2-3 years max left at the top.
Really shows desperation at this point in my opinion along with the €130 mil bid for Felix. Somehow I get the feeling this is going to end up as another high profile rejection. I cannot see Madrid selling.

If this deal goes through, we should supplement it with Tielemans who’s available at a low cost. I think the two of them would completely transform our midfield.

As mentioned it’s a 4 year deal from 30-34.

Plenty of examples of similar players going on at the top level until their mid 30s. His injury record is very good.

Seems we'll try for SMS

A midfield of Casemiro - SMS - Eriksen/Bruno would be levels ahead of anything we've been able to field since Fergie retired.

He only just turned 28 when they signed him. Casemiro is 31 in 6 months.

He was also signed from Ukraine and gave them 9 years.

Casemiro is better than he's ever been and has no real injury history despite playing loafs of matches annually for one of the best sides in Europe.

He's missed 4 matches in the last 4 years and that was mainly due to covid/infection

How did he do in the CL Final against Liverpool? As boring as that game was, I don’t remember too many issues with the Real midfield in stopping Liverpool.
