Reis Nelson did very well in our league. And he's fecking shite.
???

Reiss Nelson was fkin shite. I felt sorry for Feyenoord every time they felt like they had to put him on the pitch. I don't see how you conclude he did well in Eredivisie. He did nothing and showed he's not good enough. He wouldn't even have played a lot if Jahanbaksh was still a resemblance of the player he used to be at AZ.

Firstly we will not pay €100m or £100m for him. The highest reported bid is around £67m which is exactly where I think he would be priced at given conditions I’ll now outline.

Apologies if this comes across patronising as I promise this is not the intention but let’s simplify this down to the most basic economic conditions of supply and demand.

There is very little supply of left footed RW players on a very good level with either potential or proven ability. So short supply is a factor.

There are absolutely no available world class RW on the market and if they were suddenly why would they join a Europa league side and lose CL football and title chances?

Let’s be real here Mo Salah is probably the only player now who isn’t any kind of risk were you to transfer him to a PL side at RW as a signing (and I’d happily welcome suggestions for alternatives).

Now let’s look into those few available players that are well below that level but could get there you have the following:
  1. Raphinha (who only wanted to move to Barcelona)
  2. Antony
You could argue a few more and I’d be Genuinely interested to hear suggestions but the noises around the likes of Diaby etc haven’t been he’s available and I don’t think he’d suit what we’d need anyway.

So our possibly supply of the required level is possibly 2/3 players (and we’ve already tried the young unproven route via Amad and Pellestri which hasn’t worked out as hoped).

Now let’s look at the demand side. United are bottom of the league, we have lost our most promising left footed attacker because of him being a vile piece of work and we’ve got a new manager wanting to implement a different style to the previous 3/4. So we need attackers who suit a new system who are a RW and left footed. I could give you zero guarantees that Raphinha could work with Ten Hag and I could give you many that Anton

We don’t have a left footed academy player coming through at RW that is really pushing for first team involvement we really desperately need a left footed RW we are incredibly limited as to our attacking options without one as it means we have to push Sancho into a purely creative role with no good alternative. I like Elanga but his game is too limited to be a long term success.

Now let’s look a the cost of not bringing him in. We go into the season with:
Sancho, Rashford, Elanga, Garnacho as wingers. Martial and Ronaldo are not nor is Eriksen or Bruno. Does anyone here seriously think that’s enough to get top 4? Let’s be really if we don’t add quality in our forward line we’ll once again be looking Europa at best.

So given all of the above do I think £67m while expensive is a fair price. Yes.

Because there is no one currently on the market better suited to fulfill our needs.
Without even getting into the rest of it, where are you getting your figure from? They already rejected 80M Euros. They want 100. Thats what my entire argument is based on.

Get him for 80m and sell Rashford to psg for 60m - good business
No it isn't. We want to add people to compete with Rashford and Sancho. 1 in and 1 out does not solve any issue. All our other wide players are unproven in a top league outside of Rashford and Sancho. We need the depth.

Yeah. I do see it from his perspective and I argued with many on here last month when I said if we bid a huge amount and Ajax say no he’d be well in his rights to kick up a fuss - he will have been signed under the impression that he develop then move on - this is an incredible opportunity and he’s better than the Dutch league. However…that does seem a bit far.
Agreed. You did turn down €80M though, which is close to de Ligt and de Jong money. I reckon if you negotiate you could end up with a structured deal on around €100M with 20M in bonus clauses. We seem incredibly keen on him, so if you are open to negotiate I think you can get a record fee for him.

Are we getting him?
If Ajax accept bonus clauses as part of that €100M euros fee that is being touted, and they sell for that, absolutely. It will probably be done by next weekend. At which point we'll have to figure out who to get as a playmaker/central midfield partner to Casemiro.

Really hope we get him. He has rare talent imo and the potential to be truly elite. Will take time of course, he's young, it would be a big transition, but that talent he has isn't a standard winger talent and is the perfect option for us on the wing. Especially the connection him and EtH seem to have.

Haven't read all 173 pages, but Ajax is a great club. If they decline then fair to them, but it's a ton of money and they risk losing him next year for less if they keep a disgruntled player.
It's both a game and a business - when Real Madrid came calling for Ronaldo back then we couldn't do anything either.
What Ajax do is their prerogative. Having already lost a few good players I can understand them being reluctant to let anyone else go. Plus we're an easy mark, so could easily be squeezed for more cash. They're doing what's right for them. Fair play.

Depay was alright for Barca and set to go to Juve. Rashford's career has peaked. He will be mid table pretty soon.
I don't disagree. I just don't buy into the fact that Rashford being underwhelming in a struggling Manchester Utd team, in the premier league where the physicality of players is above most if not all other leagues, means he would not tear apart the Eredivisie of Ligue 1.

His pace would be very difficult for teams to deal with, the defenders are a lot slower and even the keepers are just so much worse, it often seems having high shot power is enough to beat the keepers regularly, this isn't the case in the premier league.

How many goals do you think Rashford would get in the Eredivisie?

I'm suddenly confused by this post and the one you're replying to, what in the world makes someone "not a real Brazilian"?
Doing this makes someone a Brazilian. You know, Samba - Jogo Bonito. So no idea why Casemiro isn't one.

Just so annoying that we’ve waited until we’re 3-5 games into the season to do our most important business. Imagine if we’d had Casemiro and Anthony for the Brighton game.

I don’t think ‘lots of flair, real Brazilian’ is that confusing to be fair.

I see the narrative around Ajax has changed recently. Not so long ago everyone was banging on about what a classy club they are and how great they are to deal with. Now they're a bunch of cheeky cnuts rinsing us. Quite a childish reaction tbf.
Very childish yes. They should let Antony go instead of treating him like a slave.

Maybe we'd not have been willing to spend so much had we beat Brighton or Brentford

Gakpo is the more likely signing as things stand according to the report from Whitwell and Ornstein.
Admittedly I only watched him once in that game against Monaco, but he looked meh to me and eerily similar to Rashford in how he plays on the left wing. Even his defensive contribution was lacking. Here's hoping that was just a one off and he shows a lot more than he did in that game.

Should call Blatter, he will gladly talk about how footballers are modern day slaves. Probably throw in a phone call to Florentino Perez as well, he has experience with freeing "slaves" after all.

Adding 2 shithouse capable Brazilians like him and Casemiro really would make us so much more enjoyable to watch

Really been missing that fire and occasional mean streak in the side

I’m not so sure now Antony is going on strike.

Can see a compromise with Ajax being made
I think United are using the interest in Gakpo as a bargaining tool. Ajax do not want to sell the player this summer but Antony has thrown a spanner into the works by refusing to train. So it seems like Ajax have reluctantly come to the negotiating table.

Slaves don't get paid. Antony gets a paycheck you can only dream off. Moreover, unlike slaves Antony's got the best job in the world.
It's a reference to Ronaldo, not an actual accusation of slavery

Oh god, that alone would be worth the €100M

I don't understand how they are any different to any other clubs in how they deal with us. They got more than the market value for both of the players they sold to us and now apparently want a record fee for another player. I don't see where this notion come from that both the clubs have excellent relationship like they are doing some kind of favours to us. £67m is more than a reasonable offer for Antony. They can easily find an adequate replacement with that kind of money.
