I'm really not sold on this guy.
He looked great against Dortmund last season I'll admit, but Schultz and Wolf made it easy for him to shine. He's put up no more than "good" numbers in Holland. Compare his numbers to Tadic or Ziyech (Who player RW at Ajax before him) and he looks nothing special. Ziyech cost Chelsea 36M, and you'll have a tough case convincing anyone he's done well there. Antony has not done nearly enough to justify the pricetags mentioned in this thread and is far from a safe bet.

....and what's up with the gangsta/drugdealer-look? You'd almost expect to find a knife or a gun on him.
feck me. When were you born 1940?

I think we should leave it and go back next summer.
ETH project is a long term thing hopefully
If playing Elanga instead of having Antony is the difference between getting top 4 or not, ETH may not be given that kind of time by the board.

Is a ziyech loan with an option to buy out of the question for Ajax? Or even for us at this point?
Chelsea and Ziyech both want a permanent transfer, they don't want the risk to be back together the following season.

There are number of young players with huge talent over the years who didn’t quite manage make it up to the very top in the end. Hence it’s always risky to sign young talents on enormous fee based on potential alone.

Examples off the top of my head:

- Denilson
- Juninho
- Quaresma
- Pato
- Anderson
- Asensio
- Januzaj
Fergie would have loved you, the never take a risk approach.....

Him stepping up in big games, would that be due to the spaces bigger side leave behind like we see with Rashford or is it his attitude towards small games.
I'm not sure it's so much space in behind but rather that lesser opponents are more willing to sacrifice players to have a constant two players on him defensively

Only an option if we have an alternative for this season.

Elanga should not be considered as a real option to start games for us and Ronny is not trusted to implement a high pressing approach which I think we all agree is the direction we want to see the club going in.

if we are to develop a proper style and a consistent way of playing fluid and high energy attacking, we need someone to compliment Martial and Sancho as arguably, even Rashford will not fit that type of approach (Liverpool suited him with the space in behind).

Pass on him at that price? Possibly, but only if we can get in a Jota like signing. Even someone like Trossard, Ziyech, Pulisic, for half the price would give us options for this season and allow us to stick to ETHs blueprint.

I thought this one was in the bag but I just checked the bag and it's not there anymore.

Has anyone seen it?

Fergie never take risk by spending huge on unproven youngster. He only usually spend huge on world class players. For example class of 92 is free. Ronaldo is cheap. Only Rooney was regarded as expensive at that time, but still he is regarded as generational talent and was proven in PL.

What is an astronomical fee these days? It feels like €60M euros is nothing in football right now...
North of 80m I assume. Yea 60m is becoming what 30m was a few years ago

West Ham just spunked that on his Brazilian NT teammate from Lyon

Don't think Chelsea give a shit about us, it's more that they know Ajax will be (even more) loaded soon
A chance to feck over a top 4 rival is worth more than a few more mil on an insignificant departure. Chelsea should be licking their lips at this whole scenario.

Absolutely nothing tight about not wanting to pay €44m for Ziyech
Paying that amount for him would be insane on their part, he doesn't even have a position he could play in Tuchel's team.

Chelsea will give him up for much less on deadline day.
