Ajax are not some small, poor, development club. They are a big club with ambitions. Yes, ultimately they are a stepping stone - but it doesn't mean they can be stepped on. They have their own plans.
Offering 90mil for a player who hasn't had explosive eredivisie season under his belt isn't stepping on Ajax. That is a very generous offer compared to what he has done on the pitch. We only offered I believe is ETH demanded this signing.

Give them money & Diallo. That way they have a replacement
Diallo, though I believe very talented and would suit the Eredivisie brilliantly, is not a replacement of the ilk Ajax are looking at.

What I find weird though, is that Ajax seems to have no other idea than Ziyech.

What the feck did my post have to do with Ajax buddy?

I was speaking on what happened with Raphinha in particular given the post that I quoted, take your red and white blinders off ffs :houllier:
It is rubbish in the sense that Raphinha would never come to us for such a fee. Just like he didnt go to Chelsea for such a fee.

Look what City paid for Phillips, wake up, please.

I walk away, that's the right thing to do.

He wants to come and seems to love ten hag, we get him next time, maybe even in jan if things developed in a certain way.

What ajax is down is perhaps illogical as I doubt they'd get anything close to this amount for him next year and usual having a disgruntled player on your books isn't the brightest idea but they seem to have drawn their line and going to stick with it, they have the right to do that and that's that.

Why is it weird? Ziyech is the only player of that quality that is willing to join Ajax, only because of his history at Ajax.
Any other player in the same range of quality is either too expensive or not willing to join.

No idea, seems that ETH wants to feel comfortable lining up players he knows and already worked with. It's kinda concerning though because nobody in his right mind would spend 100M on Antony so it's obviously a strong request from ETH.

United's plans don't make sense to me. You already have Sancho and Rashford on the wings, developping these players should be a priority. Then spend 70M on a striker, 30M on a good prospect on the wing and you're good to go. Who knows what will happen with Ronaldo but if he leaves, you end up with Rashford, Sancho and Antony competing for 2 spots and Martial (or occasionnally Rashford) as strikers, I don't understand what they're trying to achieve.

Feels like we a back a month to this topic, even when we just bought Casmerio, macheia and Erikson, and only bought Martinez who he's worked with properly

The only obvious one yes, but if Antony isn't lying, Ajax probably had the option to look from February. Surely there is more than just Ziyech.

Maybe not. But I'd find that weird.

Kane? He’s not near the ability he has shown couple of year ago now and no one is close to paying 130m or whatever City we’re going to pay Spurs for him. Next year he will have year left on his contract and probably walk for free in 2024.
His performances from the middle of the season onwards once he'd gotten over his strop were as good as they'd previously been. He's been great so far this season. City also never bid anywhere near 130 million.

His performances helping get us back into the CL and convincing Conte to stay were worth more than whatever sub 100 million offer City put in.

Modric, Suarez, Rooney, Ronaldo, Alves etc etc all also didn't totally down tools, as some fans seem to think. The overwhelming majority of players in this situation have a bit of a strop, then they get over it once the season starts and eventually get their shit together. The alternative is pretty obvious.

You're wrong. Business models change.
Perhaps out of necessity if the youth players aren't good enough. You can't apply a strategy for your entire first team.

Even in recent years you'd have De Ligt, De Jong, Gravenberch, Van de Beek, Klaassen, Bergwijn, Mazraoui, Kluivert, Hoever, Botman, Dest, Lang all coming through their youth ranks (even if some of them left early out of own will). Name me another club that produces like that and you won't find very many in Europe. Let's agree to disagree if you think they entirely changed their philosophy which has been in place since the Cruijff days just because some years haven't as good as others when it comes to getting youth players to their first team.

Leeds would never have sold him for the same amount to us. Plus the player only wanted to join Barca.
This is super complicated, needs to be repeated a million times before some understand.

And even that, Ajax is not Leeds and not governed by what Leeds does.

Surely there are other talented players we can spunk 60-70-80m on ? That’s the issue with United recruitment policy over the years - no plan B.

Get an attacking player now(it’s not like we only need one) and revisit next year where we would get a much better price. It’s something Barca/Real etc have been doing quite successfully over the years.

Christ are you telling me this the best we can buy for potentially 80-90 million of what ajax seem to be holding out for, I find that very hard to believe, for around 90 -100 million we could get the best proven attackers out there.

What a dickhead. Wanted the financial security of a 5-year deal should he flop in Europe, and was too scared to bet on himself by only signing a 2-year deal. Can't have it both ways.
No risk of any logic in this post, Christ. Do you realise that it’s also in the club’s interests to have him locked down to a 5 year deal? They would not receive a transfer fee if he signed a 2 year deal and jumped ship after that period.

Right but the difference here is that release clauses in la liga are a literal legal requirement, which is not the case for the English or German leagues.

A player asking for such clauses in those leagues is doing so because they and their agents are actively planning a getaway within a few years.

You tried to portray Haaland's request for a release clause at Dortmund as a direct consequence of their previous actions when selling players....when he's done the exact same thing to the biggest club in the English league and the current most successful one.

It's also important to note that the 200 million figure is both in euros and also seemingly due to drop further along into the contract too.
I know that about La Liga, and that was precisely my point about release clauses: they serve multiple purposes.

Neither you nor I have any idea why Haaland's agents inserted that clause into his Man City contract, but it is telling that it has a fairly unattainable amount for most clubs not Real Madrid, Barcelona or the oil clubs. This is in stark contrast to the amount specified in his Dortmund contract. I mean, by your logic, one might expect the specified amount to be around the same amount, not over double it. He essentially took the decision away from Dortmund, and it's very difficult to imagine otherwise. Perhaps Antony should have done the same, but my argument was that he was an unknown player, unlike Haaland, and so probably didn't have a strong enough negotiating position.

And that brings me to my last point: the Antony situation escalated because he feels that the club have reneged on a promise. This is a United forum, but it took an Ajax fan (admittedly also a United fan) to write:

You must know, that there is a good chance that Huntelaar and Hamstra are going back on an agreement he's made with Overmars.

But these agreements, should always be worded properly in letter.
So what I'm saying is, an easy way to do this going forward for other players is to hard-code a predetermined price into the contract as per Haaland's agents, and take the decision away from the club.

I've no comment on the structure of the clause other than to note Haaland was a Raiola player, and Raiola was notorious of agitating for his clients to move every so often so he could pocket the agents fees. Either way, the asking fee is still substantial.

I'm pretty sure Antony's PR team is either exaggerating or not telling the truth, because when Ajax bought Conceição it was communicated he'd get a season behind Antony to get ready. So Ajax wasn't expecting Antony to leave early in the window, so that makes the statement a bit weird. But then again, if i were on Antony's PR team, i'd try everything i could, even lying

I only see one party crying right now though. And Ajax didn't sign a 5-year contract two years ago then now came out to say "it was a 2-year project" either.

Would you feel any sympathy for Ajax if it was the other way around and they wanted to cut him off straight away right now?

We want a left footed right winger. Not a lot of those around.

I think it's more like exaggerating. He might've said that he'd be open for a move in February. So his team now saying he already said he wanted to leave in February, is technically correct, but also not really.

To be fair we should wait til next summer where we would save €30m, because at best we're getting top 4 with or without him.

I disagree. Of course it might be with age as well but he’s not at the same level as he was 16/17.

Ronaldo had a great understanding with sir Alex and on multiple years at United on top of being generational talent.
Modric joined real for 30m which when you look at it was really low value. Rooney didn’t go that far as far as I remember.

There are tons of players that got their transfers And on a lower value as soon as they threw a strop and even world class players with Lewa being the latest example.

So he should've signed a 2 year contract, not 5 years, if it was clear he'd want to leave in 2022....
He wanted the security for long term but Ajax has to let him go as soon as he's gaining some value?

Sorry, I want to see this guy at OT too, but Ajax have every right to demand whatever fee they want.
No, Ajax wouldn't have signed him on a 2 year contract. They're not going to pay £20 million to lose him on a free in 2 years.

That's the whole reason why they would have agreed on a 2 year project but a 5 year contract. Once the 2 years they agreed on is fulfilled they get to sell him for a high profit which is exactly how it all played out until they decided to go against the last part today and why he is rightly fuming.

Ajax can do whatever they want and I hate it when people say the selling club should do this or that because they think it's a good price (a good price to the buyer doesn't mean it's a good price to the seller) but they can't be mad or surprised if Anthony becomes a big problem for them now.

He's also not, just gaining some value, this will probably be his peak.

He might not see much game time at the world cup seeing as though his competition his Raphinia who now plays for Barcelona (we all know there is a bias for players that play at the best clubs). He won't be playing under Ten Hag (as well as being miserable) so there is a chance Ajax is football isn't as good making the players look less attractive. Utd won't be anywhere near as desperate to buy him next year as they will have played a season and he will also be another year older which also diminishes value even though he would still be young.

Even if he rips up the dutch league this season there isn't really a big club other than Utd that would pay close to this fee for a 23 year old attacker from the Dutch league.

I was ok with them keeping him as I was sympathetic to their situation but if what Anthony says is true they are being greedy and doing it at the expense of Anthony.
