Flashy player, his numbers are poor for a 100M player. But Ten Hag must love him to push it this far, hopefully he'll be alright.

The pressure will be immense, I can see this ending pretty badly. Hopefully I'm wrong.
You have to be wrong and we must believe you are wrong. Right?

Has anyone mentioned the fee yet? Seems pricey.
This window has been a mess for every club. It can’t continue with this ridiculous prices. The market will crash. Average player - 50mil from 15-25. Good player 70. Better player/high potential 80+. When does it stop.

It's the same logical sense of having a left footed CB like Lisandro. The technical ability on the ball has increased significantly with the addtions of Lisandro, Eriksen, Casemiro, and now Antony. With Sancho on the left, Antony on the right, and even Martial/Ronaldo combo through the middle (for now), the balance of the team is so much better like you mentioned

The squad building will not be fully realized for another year or two, with probably a new CF, another CM, GK not named David, a RB, and possibly a new CB. But the team is improving day by day on a basic, yet extremely important level.
Very early, but at this point I'm guessing the plan for next season is like this:

-------------------------------Striker--------------------------- (Martial)
-Sancho------------------Bruno------------------Antony (Rashford, Garnacho, Elanga, Eriksen)
------------------------------------#8------------------ (Eriksen)
---------------------Casemiro-----------RB----------------- (McTominay, Dalot)
Malacia------Martinez-----Varane------------------ (LB/Alvaro, CB, Lindelof)
---------------------------------GK------------------------------ (Dubravka)

with Cristiano, De Gea, Shaw, Maguire, VDB, Amad, Pellistri and Fred (will want to start somewhere) all leaving.

Tons of wages off the books and we go hard again for Timber or James Justin or another RB comfortable inside helping in midfield, a giant money striker, a cheap LB, Maguire replacement, starting GK who can pass it, and a proper #8. Eriksen gets lots of games as our 2nd choice #8 and #10 and is preferred to Bruno in some games.

Balance looks good. Casemiro helps out the small defenders on his side, the RB and Malacia play in midfield a ton with our wingers on the touchline and lots of space for Bruno work in.

It doesn't stop until club revenues stop following the same trajectory as transfer fees. Players cost this much because clubs can afford it. There's pretty much the same amount of footballers now as there were 30 years ago, the only thing that changes is how much money the clubs have available to them. It isn't some kind of mystery, really. Once they can't come up with any more ways to monetize new aspects of the club, and can no longer raise the prices on tickets and TV packages and merchandise, the transfer fees will level off. With the world rapidly heading towards a recession, we might be close to that point.

Probably won’t stop considering the level of inflation everywhere.
I would think the pricing will keep at these levels for a few years until someone disrupts it again, just like PSG did for Niemar and Mbappe.

I think the PL's market potential hasn't been fully maximised yet though it seems that way in the UK market.

The US, Indian and Chinese markets are far from being fully exploited. The contracts aren't linear and so the revenues from these markets won't be either -- but the trajectory is still in its upward trend. The Premier League is expected to earn more from its overseas rights than from its domestic UK TV deal for the first time this season. The League's revenue is set to rise 10 per cent to £6bn this season with the soaring value of international TV rights.

Meanwhile, Europe’s top leagues are struggling to keep up. According to Deloitte’s annual football finance report, revenue at Spain’s La Liga is projected to remain flat this year at €3.7bn, while Germany’s Bundesliga will enjoy a 16 per cent boost to €3.6bn.

So yes, the transfer market hasn't it its ceiling yet.

Great signing, the price paid is a lot more than we could have bought him for a few weeks ago but glad we got him for ETH. Hopefully we can add a CM ST and RB if the budget allows.

Why walk away from the deal if you can afford it? I don’t understand. Just because we aren’t currently successful on the pitch doesn’t mean we can’t spend our money. How do you expect to change the cycle without taking risks?

Significantly less?

Richarlison £60m
Raphinha £55m
Antony £80m

Define significant?

Whilst Antony has no Premier League experience he is 22 whilst both Raphinha and Richarlison are 25 (3 years older). Antony also has Champions League experience whilst neither of the others do. All are full Brazilian international

Define considerably more experience?

This is the same window that’s seen Darwin Nunez move to Liverpool for £85m, Fofana to Chelsea for £75m and Cucerella the same way for £63m. Chelsea have also bid £60m for Gordon.

United were buying from the biggest club in Holland. Not Everton or Leeds. A Champions League club. Just like Liverpool were buying from Benfica of Portugal.

The price for Antony isn’t as ridiculous as some of you want to make out when you actually look at the market and other factors.
Not to mention Gibbs-White moving to Nottingham Forest for £50m. Our fan base would always look for something to moan about regardless of evidence that we're doing our bit to improve the team.

His dribbling style looks effortless and he's got a nice burst of acceleration. I'm looking forward to having a player in our team who will take players on again, it's felt like a really long time since we've had that. Let's hope the price tag doesn't weigh too heavy on him.

Having a hard time gauging his pace from highlight videos. Is he actually fast or is he closer to someone like Sancho in speed?

He’s creative ability and enthusiasm to take players on very much reminds me of a ping Ronaldo in his first season with us.

For that reason, I would love to see Ronnie stay with us (as a humble super sub) to provide him mentorship

Garnacho will leave anyways. His contracts up next summer.

Amad and Pellistri on the loan farm from January
I am worried about that. I think Garnancho has potential to end up as good as Sancho or Antony, if not better.

Although this might seems to be the case from footage we’ve seen, his dribbling numbers isn’t really that impressive though (avg 1.8 dribble last season, 1.4 the season before). His dribbling numbers is more comparable to the older poacher version of Ronaldo rather than the younger winger version. I always wonder why.

I haven't watched enough of the actual player to know if he is actually worth it, but biggest thing for me, is it looks like we have a proper attacking right winger again. Hopefully means that he makes the team as a whole more dynamic, as we can drive attacks down both flanks, instead of the focus on the left from previous seasons.

except that’s half the problem with players from eredivisie. They come here having posted huge numbers and turn out not that great, so huge numbers are not a pointer to anything. If he had huge numbers people would be say it was in a weak league. I think we have overpaid, and don’t think we should have got him, but beating him with stats that mean nothing anyway is ridiculous.
If having huge numbers is not a pointer for anything, what's having poor numbers?

The only thing I get excited about is Ajax wanted to keep him even with the huge offer. It was only because Antony went public about wanting to leave that made it possible.

For those who keep on saying about his 8 goals thing, let us not forget he did miss last couple of months through injury that too when he was on top form. I think had he stayed fit he would have reached close to 20 goals in all competitions. For a 22 year ols attacker who plays mostly as a winger is a wonderful return.

Antony has little effect on Rashford, other than maybe shifting Sancho to left as a competition for Rashford. Rashford plays on left wing, Antony is a right-winger, very valuable left-footed right-winger at that (so extremely unlikely to play him elsewhere).

On the right wing our star was supposed to be Sancho. It will be extremely weird if we bench Sancho. More likely - Ten Hag will continue playing him on the left, as he has been, now that Rashford has been starting in a striker role. Sancho on the left is considered to be highly non-ideal but has been done in the past. Definitely less horrible than playing Rashford as striker, who is definitely not a good striker and will never be.

Overall - it is very unclear why a winger was a priority over a striker, given that Ronaldo is leaving (or unable to play anymore). The only explanation is - Ten Hag loves Antony expects to get a lot of goals from him and the attitude and winning mentality missing from our squad, so striker problem be damned. Which... maybe that's the best we can do with our moronic executives, but it would be more acceptable if we signed him for 50M in May. A 100M price tag is a striker price tag, world-class one at that.
Err… is it like saying Antony will have little effect on Rashford, other than getting him benched?

I tend to think that discussions about what a player is ‘worth’ are, while sometimes interesting, kind of beside the point. Money has no connection with any reality in terms of value: in capitalist societies, things are ‘worth’ what people will pay for them, no more, no less, for good or ill.

With regard to Anthony, I hope he provides what we’re missing: a little X factor, some magic. Feck the price, ladies and gentlemen.

Well, point here clearly is that Antony plays a different position and doesn't directly replace Rashford. If Rashford is not even better at his best position than right winger Sancho playing on the left - that is not on Antony

Casemiro and Antony for 150 mil, unbelievable :)

Long journey that was, i remember those times when we were a team to be linked with Arnautovic and Rabiot for 20….. like It was 3 weeks ago. Time flies.
Maybe we should all thank Brentford for doing us a favor. It all changed after that match.

"Right winger Sancho" sells him a little short considering he is just as effective on the left, if not more so.

I think he prefers the right wing, but yes he can ply on the left, maybe even better than left winger Rashford so - not gonna argue. Just saying we signed him as a right winger but now bought another right winger who is clearly going to be the starter

Dzeko hit 4 fewer goals just in one year at Rome compared to Salah's whole stint in Italy (3 years). Shaarawy was also hitting numbers close to what Salah did during the same time at Roma.

Kagawa had generally the same numbers as KdB before either of them moved to PL.

Stats don't tell the whole story and if Salah went to United instead of Pool at the time his career would've taken into a different direction.
I think point being Salah didn’t cost that much when he has poor numbers at younger age, while every players developed differently, which makes it impossible to assume a player would develop the same as another player who has similar stats as him at certain age.
