Really? He would need to give up on winning serious trophies for the foreseeable future and knowing our track record of the past decade, it would much more likely end up in a career suicide than anything else.
He won the Spanish cup since he moved to Barcelona. Better than us, but not exactly a full house

We've improved across the pitch and he'd be daft if he didn't see we're on the up. Career-wise, this should be a no-brainer for him. Unfortunately it seems that he's not the one doing the thinking stuff.
I think his girlfriend has his nuts in a jar.

She likes the Barca lifestyle.

I think FDJ comes across as a bit of a pussy, tbh.

Interesting that you know so much about him, and his relationships.

Why has there been a sudden influx over the past several weeks into the guys Mrs' thoughts and we're spitballing on what her intentions may or not be in her personbal life?

Very odd behaviour.

Martial
Sancho - Bruno - Antony
Casemiro - de Jong
Malacia - Martinez - Varane - Dalot
De Gea
Is a damn good start for building a team that can challenge. Add a new right back, striker, goalkeeper and a tall-strong defender as backup, and you have yourself a team capable of putting up a fight against anyone. If done right we are back in CL for next season and challenging for trophies one to two seasons later.

Here he gets to be the hero and bask in the glory of inevitably helping to turn things around. Call me crazy, but I'm feeling really positive about the next few years. I think with or without him, our fortunes are going to turn around.

Agreed. Although "a bit" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

This! I hate our negativity here, that's a really good side!

Its this kind of bs that keeps hooking me back in and is driving me round the bend!
We know the conditions Barca need to meet to be able to sign and register Bernardo, so it just gives a window of hope. Are we really taking it to the deadline? Does Erik still insist? Could the Frenkie money still be ringfenced? Are the Glazers spending because they know they have a route out And want to maximise profit? Do we get Memphis as a bonus? Is he having a secret private medical? Would he really string ETH along and then move to Chelsea? I want ANSWERS goddamnit!
Y'know, in that video of him arriving at the airport in Spain yesterday, he was taking a lot of stuff on holiday with him for what is basically a two day trip. Huge suitcase, suit, backpack... he had packed more than his missus and she definitely looks like the kind of girl that would travel with the contents of a small salon, four outfits a day and a choice of shoes for each.

It's because he had to pack regular clothes, gym stuff for a medical, a suit for the formal meetings...

All the signs are there. Something is definitely happening. Is it us or is it Chelsea? The saga continues.

No. Just one season maybe. Even this season there is an albeit small chance of a cup. Next season, with the insvestment this summer and whatever in Jan / next summer, after a year of ETH, Id really be expecting to start mixing it up for those bigger trophies. I have the feeling our days of imparting career suicide on players is done.

Just a reminder that everyone surely must be aware of, but the acquisition of Casemiro largely moots the need for de Jong.

Would we all love to have both? Of course. But Casemiro will serve in the role de Jong would have served as originally envisioned and Eriksen will serve in the role de Jong could still serve if we do land him. Eriksen can’t go 90 minutes 2x a week but he’s clearly regular starting quality for us who will slot in fantastically for us between Casemiro and Bruno.

A shame the football gods did not allow this transfer to happen so that we could witness the genius of Casemiro and de Jong together, but the arrival of Casemiro more than compensates for the absence of de Jong.
They aren't remotely similar at all. They are perfect together

If he comes I rate our chances to win the Europa League as very high.

This feels like Schrödinger's transfer.
The deal is both dead and alive.
Best muppet thread ever!

Even if the guy doesn't come, we do not have the same team anymore. We are a threat already. We are a different beast now. Player / dressing room power has gone. Hard work and unity have arrived. Casemiro, Martinez and Antony will be a big difference this year I'm certain of it.

+1

He gained no man points this summer. Got disrespected by his employer and his girlfriend who would rather live in Barcelona than her boyfriend have a fulfilling career.

What does romero possibly gain from saying that bernado is still a go? Surely man City won't sell this late in the window unless it's far more than he's really worth to them? And surely barca can't afford that, even if they did sell de Jong?

But seriously, neither of you two (and loads of others on here) can make those kind of aspersions without knowing ANYTHING. Literally no grounds for that bollocks other than your own imaginations filling in some blanks created by endless media jizz. I see it very differently. Frenkie has just kept his mouth shut and acted professionally. He's acted as I would have acted to be fair. Any movement / statement from him weakens his hand.

This could be virtually said about anyone, from people who know Rashford’s mentality and lifestyle to Ronaldo’s mentality and lifestyle too..

No one knows crap all about anyone - but people will still pretend they do.

I'd prefer him to sign for us, but it's not like he'll be the first footballer to be welcomed back after contract disputes. All he has to do is back himself as good enough to be undroppable and he'll continue to live and play in Barcelona with his girlfriend. I'm not sure where the macho angst comes from.

Correct. But it's all this Frenkie stuff about his Mrs. Some are joking but loads are serious too.

A psychologist could say that those assuming FDJ is under the whip from his Mrs are actually projecting from their own meek and downtrodden positions, making the assumption that all other men are. Good enough for me :)
