Looking back I'd rather him never returned even if that means we have to rely on the injury prone Twang because now I can't look at Ronaldo the same anymore. Sure he's always been arrogant but his abilities used to make up for it. You could say it's part of his charm, arrogant but top professional. Now he's fecking bad and doesn't want to admit it, guy is older than 90% of premier league and still thinks he needs to start every game. On top of performance issues, he keeps leaving matches early (disrespecting the manager).

Not to mention he also disrespected the club by bitching about not being in CL and wanting out even though he knew the state of the club before joining. It's the risk he took, which he got paid handsomely for and yet he has the audacity to be a spoilt old baby demanding CL football when no CL club wants him anyway. As far as I know, no one at United has ever disrespected him since his return. Even Ten Hag is still giving him chances.

I don't despise him but it's hard to see him as a club legend anymore. When he joined Real Madrid, at least we got money. Now he's not only draining money in salary but also stalling the progress of the squad as he's not suitable for Ten Hag tactics.
You can argue that if he left Juve for City, his legacy will also be ruined but at least he won't be our problem and City was going to win it with or without him anyway.

Not completely because it takes a lot to rip a PL and CL double season away, let alone 3 total PL’s. He’s getting there though. Hope Argentina wins the World Cup - a guy like this does not deserve to be known as the world’s greatest ever player.

Ruined his United legacy for me when he went to Real Madrid. Legend of the game. Real Madrid legend. Not a United legend.

I think so. His actions in the summer were ridiculous and the whole walking off thing cemented the fact that he really doesn't give a shit about us.

I never felt he was a United legend, as he wanted out of the club badly and had his best years at RM. And I was against resigning him from the start. So I never felt that special about him and United

Nobody with a brain and a functioning pair of eyes would ever consider him the greatest player of his generation, let alone of all time.

Yeah, to be honest, I'd lost any real affection for him by his final season with us. His actions that summer were pretty disgraceful, but even before then, it was pretty hard to ignore all the warning signs of him being a Class A bellend. When he was crying by himself in the Champions League final instead of running over to congratulate Edwin like every other player, you knew it had all become about him.

That's why he was once a great player though, that single-minded determination and arrogance. It's sort of admirable, but end of day, I'm a Manchester United fan and for all the good he did us many years ago, he never really gave a shit.

I'd rather go for a pint with Antonio Valencia.

He ruined his legacy with me when he called himself a slave and fecked off to Madrid. Not given a shit about him since.

The drama this summer and him doing that last night has definitely tainted his legacy for a lot of people.

What could of been put down previously to determination etc (like throwing his toys when being subbed), doing what he did last night was pretty clear that it's all about him. Had we been 5 nil down and outplayed and him not coming on - maybe you could see his point.

What he did last night was chose to create drama around himself than to celebrate our best performance of the season with his teammates - but weirdly potential buyers will also see that and would want to stay away even more. No winners from doing what he did.

Had a couple of excellent seasons then became a great city player at Real. Legacy? Ask his followers.

He ruined his legacy for me when he went to Real. Never liked him since. When he came back I thought it might be his chance to redeem himself to the fans but his ego is too big for the club and the fans. Absolutely does not care about the club and fans but only about his personal form and play. He never enjoys winning as a team unless he is not somehow involved. Cannot wait till he leaves

He'll go down as one of the best players we've ever had, mainly for that 06-09 period. But the histrionics, moaning, ego, attention seeking behaviour means he'll never be remembered the way he should be by us. And he only has himself to blame for that.

He was great for us and even better at Real. His behaviour doesn't make me feel worse about the legacy, but it pisses me of because of the current situation and team ETH is building.

I feel sorry for him, he must be devastated with his own decline, but he should not make a circus around it. All the pundits will stay on his side and this will make it harder than it should be for ETH.

and this

Ronaldo's only cared about one thing his entire career and that is Ronaldo, nothing wrong with it as he's had a brilliant career but now you can see his true character showing that it's always been about himself. Doesn't give a flying hoot about the club.

Yeah he ruined it when he left the first time. This is just further evidence of what a bellend he is.

Disliked him as soon as he left United tbh. Mainly due to bitterness he gave his best years to another club.

Even when he left us for Madrid, i always thought he was our boy. You know. SAF clearly loved him. He delayed going for a year as SAF asked him. And he always spoke about us with respect.
When he was uber successful, it was like one of ours was being successful. I know its twisted, but to me it felt like that.

Then the dramatic return last summer, and all those moments he gave us during the last season. I couldn't be happier to have him with us.

I even understood why he wanted to leave the club and was ok with that, if not happy.

But the constant moaning, putting himself above the team started to get to me. Not coming for pre-season due to "personal" reasons. Moaning in press on the bench, etc.

last night though, was the final straw. We were playing so so good. And the jerk thinks its best to just get up and leave.

Now I dont really want him to be even there on the bench. I hope he gets the treatment that Auba got from Arteta.

Ronaldo has had more successful seasons/years than his nemesis just like Benzema, Lewandowski, Kaka but just like them he isn't as good a footballer (and never has been) as he who shouldn't be named in a Ronaldo thread. The only people who need convincing is Cristiano fanboys.

Pretty much. My real affection for football pretty much coincided with Ronaldo joining the club in the early 2000s. By the end of the decade having witnessed his rise and everything he had done in our shirt he was a pretty heroic figure for me.

I've been able to somewhat turn a blind eye to a lot of his (football related) antics over the years, but yesterday really was the final straw. Would be happy to see a contract termination announcement today.

Edit: To be clear he's still one of the greats across the history of football, he won't be remembered based on these last few years. But the last 6 months has massively tainted how I feel about him in relation to United

Oh yes. Argentina is my 2nd favorit national team anyway so it wont be hard. All the more I'll be happy if Messi wins it.

I think last night will be the straw that broke the camels back for a lot of people.

I was a teenager during his last spell here, absolutely consumed by football him and Rooney were idolised. Like another poster said above I always enjoyed watching him at Real and had a soft spot for him, but his behaviour and attitude since coming back have been nothing but disrespectful and I can't wait for him to be gone.

I'd drop him to the reserves after last night, but I'd worry he'd do more harm than good with them so it's probably best to just jettison him until January. It's so strange to think back about when he left for Madrid how high his legacy was for me, and fast forward to now being desperate for him to leave at the first opportunity

This "not a United legend" stuff is such nonsense. I appreciate that he's obviously pissing people off at the moment through his ridiculous behaviour but the reality is that he's one of only four players to win the Ballon d'Or whilst at the club, he was our top goalscorer in three consecutive title winning seasons (with a Champions League in the middle), including being the only player in the last 50/60 years to score over 30 league goals in a season IIRC, not to mention that the Ronaldo of 07-09 is probably the best player most of us under 60 have seen in a United shirt. So yes, he's definitely a legend at this football club and rightly so, regardless of the fact it's right to move him out of the club in the January window.

But he isn't known as the greatest player ever. Messi is. Or Maradona.
Argentina not winning the world cup isn't going to catapult Ronaldo into the top tier.

He is one of the greatest players ever to play for United, yes.

But he isnt a legend of the club. Statistics dont make him a legend.

I never really felt the same about him after he moved to Madrid. He celebrated against us with Juve in a way that said 'I don't care anymore'.

He only ever came back to United for his own personal gain, and we see that now. We aren't anything special to him, Madrid is his darling.

Great player over the years, but a bit of a bellend.

Absolutely not. He’s always been a dickhead. Class that he came back to us.
And I have always said Messi is better.

We have only won 2 CL’s under SAF - arguably one less without Ronaldo.

Whilst he pisses me off, he can’t ruin what he did in the past for me.

Statistics don't. Being our best player in one of the most successful periods of the clubs history does.

Well that doesnt too. As I said, being the best player isnt the same as being a legend, it doesnt always go hand in hand. In any case legends dont shit on their clubs like he's been doing for a while now.

His “legacy” ended when he described himself as a slave because we wouldn’t let him go to Madrid.

He’s one of the best ever to grace the shirt and the PL, but the guy has always been a prize bellend. Him walking off last night really shouldn’t surprise anyone, he’s always been a massive baby who thinks only of himself.
