The problem at Utd is terrible squad building/signing players who are past their best. If you were to look at City, who have they actually signed that would have never ended up at Utd? Haaland maybe, but that would have meant even more time on the bench for Ronaldo. Virtually everyone else I can think of they've signed could have just as easily ended up at Utd, the difference is they have built a much better squad, whereas our squad direction has been terrible for many years.

Given Ronaldo's complete obsession with the competition he surely can recall that especially as Real Madrid were playing in the other SF that year. He was also club mate of Raul for a year or two who went on to play under Schalke under Rangnick so Ronaldo is certainly s***stirring on that one because he didn't rate the appointment.
I always wondered Ronaldo's motivations for actually coming back to Man. United. Did he genuinely just think, well they finished 2nd so me coming back and scoring the goals will win the league? The fact there was no release clause in the deal if you didn't make the top 4 or qualify for CL kind of indicates that I think.
