Cristiano Ronaldo: Set to leave by mutual agreement

Is Ronaldo justified to say that he “feels betrayed” by Manchester United?

Ok having seen the entire interview now I've got to say that those initial clips made it sound worse than it is

His relationship with ETH isn't good and I think everyone knows ETH probably didn't want him around when he took the job. Everyone also knows Ronaldo's got an ego and he isn't going to take not starting every game

No need for this drama let him leave, thank him for what he's done for the club and let him play for someone who's happy to start him

Imagine if an actual journalist and not a phone hacking creep was sitting in on this interview, and could actually challenge him on some of the absolute drivel leaving his mouth. He knew what he was doing by giving his time to a massive sycophant.

True. But I mean is it a suspiscion that comes from an official source?
nothing official, it's just that there's been a general acceptance that he probably has it. His erratic behaviour since that hit perfectly aligns with what is known about CTE, and given that we all know that CTE is a big problem in the NFL, it'd be really surprising if he didn't have it.

He is extremely weird though, as in something is off.
I think it's probably because he can't come to the fact that he's not the player he once was and is so used to everyone bowing down to him that it's hard for him to admit that he can't pay at the top level anymore. You can tell by how he tries to vindicate himself, 'last season I had 32 goals' etc. I'm the best 37 year old ever but Luka Modric is still playing.

ETH deserves massive respect for how he's handling this so far. He'll surely command the respect of the rest of the squad after this, it should be unquestionable.

I'm torn because I obviously want Bruno and Dalot to have good World Cups, but it would be very satisfying to see Ronaldo dumped out in the group stages without scoring a single goal. If Messi and Argentina end up winning it would be hilarious
Argentina to beat Portugal in the final with Messi having a blinder and scoring the winner while Ronaldo stinks the place out. That way everyone wins! :D

No chance, they will try and spin it like Trumpers do after Trump says something stupid.

CR is draining the Old Trafford Swamp.
Of course, one today said something similar to what's Ronaldo is saying now. That he left Spurs game cause he wasn't subbed in vs City. Couldn't make it up.

Piers drooling over him instead of asking difficult questions
I think the issue is that there are 2 schools of thought with football:

Traditionalists (for lack of a better word)
One that Ronaldo / Ole and then some well accomplished managers like Zidane + Ancelotti + Allegri + Mourinho would belong to

^ Ronaldo had the fortune of always playing for these types up until Rangnick. This is down to finding a system that works for great individual players to get results. Piers Morgan I think only see's football this way which is why he actually reckons Ronaldo works at Arsenal. In the most extreme cases, they don't see football played any other way (Ole when he famously said "it's not all about tactics but desire etc." or staunch Ronaldo defenders who point to his individual goals and refute team statistics).

These types view football where the best individual players on the pitch should win the games, it's up to the manager to find a solution that works for them. And certain managers have been of this ilk with success. But I think its a dying breed because of the more modern school of thought.

Revolutionists
Your tiki-taka Peps, or Gegenpress Klopps, Ten Hag's hybrid of the two etc.

These guys have some differences but a consistency in their systems is workrate + press. They don't believe in catering for an individual unless they make the collective better, i.e. the player fits in the system and not the other way round.

This type is more successful in the modern game for me - you take the previous CL Finalists and winners - it's Real yes, but then Liverpool/Chelsea and as much as I hate to say it, Pep has a great chance to win it for City this year.

Problem is, the traditionalists refuse to accept this concept, and when the GOAT happens to be a traditionalist narcassist, clashing with a revolutionist manager, it's not a surprise this is happening.
Great post!

His son probably did say that. After all he's been brought up to only refer to him as daddy or the greatest player in the world since he could speak.

He left the stadium, because the manager wanted him to come on for three minutes and he - as the best player in the world - doesn't deserve this.

Feckin hell.
Basically he is saying his is not a team player and it's all me, me, me

He pretty directly says that playing three minutes at the end of a game is below him

Goldbridge on the United Stand was spouting that nonsense after the Spurs game so probably a fan.

Something along the lines of "EtH is a hypocrite because he said he didn't sub CR on vs City because he didn't want to disrespect CR but now he wants to sub CR on for 3 minutes so he's either a hypocrite or he's deliberately disrespecting CR".

Piers is doing more sucking cock then asking any decent questions
It is actually genius when you think about it. Piers clearly doesn't give a shit about the guy or any of the tools he interviews but knows if he plays up to camera, he can let them expose themselves and he gets all the clicks and makes money from it.

He'll retire if he wins the WC
He didn't quite say that. He said he would stop football if the scenario Piers put to him came to be: Portugal v Argentina 2:2 and he wins it in the 94th minute with his hatrick goal.

As I feared - in the end it all turned out to be pretty lukewarm. Had the best parts in drips and drabs and then pretty much just ramblings.

And yet it didn't make a significant difference in terms of revenue. There is nothing I can do about it.
Oh don’t get me wrong, Juve’s finances are in disarray. I think they’re also in a big legal dispute. They can’t even afford to sack Allegri. That said their best ever year for revenue was the year Ronaldo joined, then covid hit and the ESL got binned.

You seem very focused on the present and not understanding how lucrative whichever clubs can win the key geographic areas is. United have matched a state run club for spending basically off the back of successes from a decade+ ago and that was before social media and data analytics really boomed.
