That is a bit of a contradiction is it not? These days to be a good manager it is all about man management (the hairdryer treatment just wouldn't work with these modern players) and actually I think he has impressed on that front. Specifically, when he got the players in for a 14km run the day after the Brentford game, he also did the run himself to show that they are all in it together.
There is really no defense for Ronaldo not coming on when instructed, you do what the manager tells you, end of.
To be fair, he did say that he was wrong, didn't behave and apologized to the coach and his teammates. Which makes the issue slightly deeper, he genuinely thinks that he was disrespected when he wasn't, he genuinely thinks that his sentiements are justified even if his public response wasn't. That to me points to a player/employee that is a problem for the managing team and a potential if not actual disruptive dressing room presence.

I just don't know how easy/simple that is. The court battle might end up costing the club way more in money/negative press than giving him a few million and saying sod off.
I just hope he will agree to a mutual termination, say our goodbyes and leave it at that.
Lawyers would have been all over it. Club wouldn’t take the ripping up the contract option unless they received the legal advice for it. Any other profession this would be gross misconduct.

There is surely grounds to ripping up his contract and being done with him. I wouldn't even worry about him joining a rival team, such is the level of his regression.

He'd ruin the harmony of whatever club he goes to. He made it clear in his interview that he is not a squad player type of player and that it's disrespectful to him if he doesn't play. No idea who will take him.

I thought that he said the coach but maybe I imagined it. And yes he clearly didn't regret doing it and he thinks that he was actually justified. How do you deal with that as a manager, especially when it's a player that is idolized in the dressing room?

I remember thinking when he came back last year , oh well at least him not going to city means the memories of him from 2003-2009 won't be sullied.
When it was clear he didn't get the move he wanted in the Summer I expected a Cavani 21/22 like season from him where it's clear he's not bothered , he sulks quietly and waits until his contract runs down.
But he's been so much more unprofessional than that and he effectively has sullied the memories of 2003-2009. His Utd career ending with him being sacked and then sued by the club Is about as bad as it gets.

If United can, technically, nail Ronaldo for breach of contract (i.e. his statements in the interview are sufficiently bad for that), there's no feckin' chance he'd ever achieve anything beyond embarrassing himself even further by subsequently suing the club (see above).
Unless he has extremely bad legal advisors, he won't do that. He'll resort to more interviews and whatnot - but we'll be rid of him, and without paying him a penny. I call that pretty much ideal under the circumstances.
