Why are they pricks? They are not the oppressors here.

It takes a lot of courage to do what armchair advocates on here are insulting them for not doing. They don't deserve any applause for doing nothing, but they don't deserve insults either.
As I said. Why are there only seven associations who got involved? It is too few. A lot more associations and FIFA might have thought twice about their actions.

Sick of hearing of or seeing this dam armband now. If they feel that strongly about it, wear it regardless.

It’s a big shame the FA have been bullied, but so many people will jump at any chance to bash England, bit weird when it’s coming from supporters of an English team, but that’s how it is on here sadly.

Yup , people here seem to be more upset about the hypocrisy.

I do agree they should wear it. It would have put FIFA in an awkward position which would be justified. Pity they cannot all withdraw from FIFA and set up their own association.
Wouldn't make a difference. As cynical as it sounds, any other association would be as corrupt as feck too.

The whole build up was the likes of Southgate/Kane banging on about it. It's not the hypocrisy of standing down now that bothers me as much as they pretend to have a stand at all.

Excellent point.

Simply put, a lot of countries are either in the same boat as Qatar on this issue, or are sitting on the fence, unbothered about it.

Think it should be a stick to beat FIFA with.
Agree with you here too.

I'm advocating for placing the blame at FIFAs door rather than the players.

As you've said the teams who didn't advocate for it to be worn pre tournament shouldn't be getting off Scot free either.

The world cup shouldn't have been awarded to Qatar, the teams/ players shouldn't have attended and we shouldn't be watching.. yet here we are.

The Dutch FA, in a moment of heroic defiance, has decided principles are nice but not worth a yellow card.

Good on them. Do you hear the people sing.
Same here in Denmark.

Massively disappointing.

I hope every single one of the LGBTQ+ organisations come out with a joint statement telling every FA in this world cup and Fifa themselves to stop using their personal struggles as a marketing gimmick and to feck off the same time, maybe going as far to list every player to refrain from using their stuggles to line their pockets.

I was actually hoping Wales would have been different but yet again, football is just shameful at the moment and I couldn't possibly expect my country to do the correct thing.

Cowardly bustards.

I don't think they stood down because of hypocrisy. They stood down because FIFA put footballing sanctions on the table. It's important to label FIFA as the cnuts here. No one should have to risk pitch sanctions as a result of protesting for a just cause.

Anyone who wore the band would be sacrificing their personal ambitions for this cause. Very praise worthy. That can never be an expectation though. It diminishes the sacrifice of those who made that decision in the past.

Why do people just make up a narrative. I clearly asked that there is a lot to criticise Qatar about but isn't this on FIFA.

I then gave the rules and regs that FIFA have had for ages. They also have a process that teams go through and do if they want changes.

Qatar are cnuts.
Yeeah sure the regs exist, but FIFA, as the tournament organisers, have the power to make exceptions to the regs when appropriate. They didn't even reply to requests by the FA and others to wear the armbands, and now they're evidently threatening players with heavy sanctions for wearing them.

It seems pretty clear to me that FIFA has found itself totally beholden to Qatar, and they are totally spineless. Equally, Qatar are using their financial muscle to enforce change in FIFA to make it more in line with their politics. They both bear responsibility.

It's good to know you think Qatar's government is staffed by cnuts - that didn't come across in your previous posts.

Fifa are the cnuts we all know that.

But this isn't about what people "should" do, this is about the words and actions. Southgate, Kane and plenty of others have gone on and one about these issues and made a big deal about the armband. Come on, are we shocked about what's happened here? Are we genuinely shocked about the alcohol ban coming in last minute? Do we really believe these things weren't always the plan? My issue is the lip service with no real care behind it. They media playing, the brand building, the money grabbing. They've piggy backed on a cause and pretending to give a shit whilst clearly not.

This is all based on my own personal opinion that this was always going to happen and that the FA weren't stupid enough to believe that Kane could ever wear the armband btw. My Fiancee is bi and I told her weeks ago Kane wouldn't walk out with the armband. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe Kane does care, but going by the past, I very much doubt it and don't believe they ever really gave a shit past good soundbytes to stop them getting shit on before the tournament. After all, as I said, this will all be forgotten about after the first goal.

So yes, whilst the real ire should be directed at those who didn't even bother at all and Fifa, I do still consider those that play it to their advantage as massive pricks. They knew this would happen, they made it an issue and now they (to me at least) have damaged the cause by showing how fake it is to them. We shouldn't place expectations on people, I agree. But these people did that themselves, they made a big deal of this all along knowing what would happen. Sorry, but I see through that.

Further proof they've been lying the whole time. Wait until it's too late and then ban things, no doubt there'll be more last minute changes. So much for this being a World Cup for everyone.

I think the thing is that if you actually care about your principals and have some degree of moral integrity, you wouldn't let any kind of warning or sanction disrupt your actions, let alone kicking a ball.

For Kane and the like, if a yellow card is enough to rob you of your convictions, then I don't think you were ever serious about it in the first place, especially when it's a form of discrimination and denial of existence.

They shouldn't pretend they care in the first place, to begin with. It's more or less shown the many where they really stand, which, as many of us surmised, they really can't be arsed, but want to 'appear' as if they care.

Iranian players risk own freedom and safety by not singing their national anthem in protest at their government's actions, Harry Kane won't wear an armband in case he gets a yellow card.

I think it shows a real lack of backbone from England. Top down, FA included.

Who the feck gets permission to protest in such a soft way? Its ridiculous and cowardly.

She's just virtue signaling

"Virtue signalling" is such an empty phrase to use. I suppose she is "woke" too.

Or maybe... Because 4 years ago she was the first female pundit on the BBC and doesn't want to stop that progress?

Maybe she wants to raise awareness while she is there working for a national broadcaster?

No you didn't, otherwise you could just ask that.

You completely changed the point then went all strawman. Be better than that.

I asked a rhetorical question to get the cogs moving. It was presumptions of me to think cogs would be present. I'll grant you that.

That's the thing, Bale is obviously going to retire soon anyway, there really isn't much the footballing world could do to harm him.

It's basically a free hit for him, which makes it all the more disappointing if he doesn't put his middle finger up to the powers that be in football.

Came in to write the same - this post is spot on and we should be embarrassed by their brave stance.

So you can dislike something personally but not be unjust or oppressive unless it's transgender which is different?
Transgender is different was a response to a question.

If you can't be bothered to follow the conversation why comment?
