Game of two halves...

You'd think Iran will finish with zero points. Wales and USA aren't bad teams, England certainly stronger on paper. Group is open.
Wales and USA are terrible. It’s the best group England could have dreamed of.

Iran had to play England, I imagine USA and Wales will get similarly stuffed by England. Wouldn't necessarily assume Iran get 0 points.

It's actually rather impressive how shite the US still are considering their population size, infra structure, college sports system etc.

Fair result. USA were the better team in the 1st and Wales in the 2nd.

Still fancy both USA & England to qualify

The state of this group England are in, Wales and USA are nowhere near a standard and then you have Iran who I feel my local team would beat.

The average college grad is 22 and college soccer is nowhere near the levels of lower professional leagues. You don't play in college to turn pro. Same as baseball.

I always somehow think Wales (and Scotland and Ireland) are pretty good. No idea why.

I’d have taken a point before the game but felt US were there to be beaten in that second half and if the team that should have started had played could have been different. James central is just a truly bizarre decision.
Ayye that was a mental decision and completely lost us that first half. Moore did brilliantly when he came on fair play. Johnson also looked bright. His quick throw in led to the penalty.

Bale looks miles off the pace, Ramsey not much better. Gotta hope they find some sharpness by Friday.

Not necessarily. Other sports are more popular and isn't football quite expensive there?

Erm right:lol:
Got battered 4 0 by Hungary this year. It's a consistent theme for England, Hadn't won a game for 6 months before the game today.

Colombia game last world cup. Tunisia was only 2 1 also etc. Every tournament like that.

For a top seed what group should England be in out of interest? You always get this stuff but then you look at Argentina's group and it's got a poor Mexico and Saudis in, Holland in with Qatar, France have Australia and Tunisia...

US will give England a good game for an hour if they stop recklessly diving in and Scotland actually gave England one of the hardest games at last euros during the 90 minutes. England had a much easier group in 2018 really and probably 2010 aswell which they nearly messed up.

I'm not saying it's England's fault they are in a shit group, obviously the draw went that way but the teams I've seen so far have been a shocking quality and England manged to get 3 of those. I will say though I thought Senegal and Holland were awful today too but they aren't involved with England yet.

We'll see a genuine winner tomorrow starting off with Argentina & France in the evening I hope because it couldn't be much worse so far

What was the actual time wasting in the second half of US-Wales though? From what I saw they were all genuine injuries. Of course they have the directive of adding time that gets lost in goal celebrations so probably three minutes were for time from penalty awarded to kicking off again.

Let's see if the directive continues when the likes of Argentina and Uruguay are winning 1-0 in knock out games as those guys certainly know how to kill games when leading.

Their best athletes have far better alternative options, it’s not that strange. Where would “soccer” even rank nationally in terms of popularity? Fifth? (Feel like this is generous) it’s not like anyone expects England to be good at basketball.

I don't think Senegal without Mane are much better than US personally so it's more justifable to say it if England had landed in Holland's group imo.

I would like to see England tested in knock outs properly though considering the way draw has worked for last two tournaments. Should avoid Holland in last 16 but let's see England-France in quarters. If England are serious about winning a major tournament that's the sort of result you need to propel you towards the title (and then hope someone else takes out Brazil for you).
