Mbappe is indisputably the best player in the world currently, just unstoppable.

Gaz. Is a Mewling Quim.
Tevez was a starter under Fergie mate.

It's a different thing resting a starter after a good performance, and dropping a sub that is your best performing player at the moment, in a knock out game.

Stop with the moronic defense of Southgate, the man has issues.
Tevez was a sub at the time. He was brought in for a cup game against Blackburn which we won 5-3 then was left out for the more important league game that followed against Sunderland so Berbatov and Rooney could come back in.

Try again mate.

Saka is class I agree. But I don’t think that’s reason Southgate picks him more than he has played a fair bit at leftback which is very reassuring for Gareth.

what kind of message does it send out to group that player who scored the two goals that won you last game doesn’t get the nod for the next game, the answer is a shite message.

Griezmann's Pogba-impersonation at this world cup has been astonishing honestly. Mbappé will get the headlines but honestly, i think he's been the player of the tournament so far

Again. I remember Sir Alex Ferguson dropping Carlos Tevez after he scored four, from a quick google he also got an assist for our other goal of the game.

Must have been a shit manager
One minute your delighted an Arsenal player is starting over a Utd Player who had been Englands best player, the next your playing the Utd Card to defend Southgate.
Are you at the wind up here?

I’m not delighted, I’m just not fussed about which of the two plays. They’re both very good at football.

I used a United example because believe it or not that’s the team I support, so I actually have memory of specific incidents.

Yeah, I've never really 'gotten' Griezmann before this tournament but he's been incredible.

He's been excellent. Seems to love playing for his country, bit like Pogba. Deschamps deserves credit for this as the players seem to genuinely love him.

Rabiot, Giroud, Griezmann are all patriots or what :).
I rarely see them play well for clubs but they always over perform in international stage

For as much as people clown on Southgate, he knows the pulse of the team and everyone is pulling in the same direction. That cannot be questioned, which is how everybody accepts their role and supports each other.

He's known many of the players before he was England manager working with the younger England national teams, as the players came up to the senior side.

He is the player of the tournament for me but I could be biased. You can see how France becomes terrible when Griezmann is at the periphery of the game both defensively and offensively. Interestingly I have been thinking about Valverde's comments when he said that Griezmann need to understand that he doesn't have to defend as much, maybe the solution was to actually encourage him to defend and drop?

He's picked Saka because its the most defensive option he can have on the wing. That I am sure.

Exactly. If he’s like this vs USA and Senegal imagine the amount of bed shitting there will be about France,

Mbappe is almost a cheatcode at this stage, but he comes across as such a massive diva cnut.

A lot has been said about Griezmann, Giroud or Mbappé, but Rabiot has been phenomenal all tournament long. I saw a chart a few mins ago from Opta that puts him as one of the highest chance creators in the tournament, and he does an impeccable job defensively as well. His coverage of the left side allows Theo H. and Mbappé to go forward safely. If you had told me before the tournament that Tchouaméni would be the "weak" link in our midfield, I'd have laughed in your face.

First time ive ever heard the excuse of picking a stating 11 based on who is better coming off the bench.
It’s like they aren’t allowed to criticise Southgate or England

Amazing at the Euro 2016, top 3 at the WC18, and now he’s having another great World Cup in 22. Would it be fair to call him France’s best performer over the past 10 years? Didn’t show up in 2020, but the whole squad was shit then, bar Benz and maybe Pogba.

An unsung hero for France thus far is Rabiot. He's holding down central midfield and the left side of the pitch. Overall, been impressed by France as the side is quite different but similar from 4 years ago. The axis of Mbappe, Giroud, and Grizemann...same. But a fit Dembele and Coman as the out and out wingers, totally new CM pairing anchored by Rabiot, and a couple new faces on the backline. Their starting RB in Russia, Pavard, has been on the bench.

What business does Jordan Henderson have starting a WC knockout game for England?

Obviously it's tough for Rashford who deserves to start but playing Saka makes sense. Foden and Rashford are both way less effective from the right and Foden is the better player. For once I think Southgate has gotten a lineup spot-on.
