Being optimistic, I'd go for 3-1 England.

However, the pessimistic part of my brain says it'll be a boring 1-0.

Yeah I do agree that Southgate should make a decision in how he wants to play and stick with it. Instead he just kind of hedges his bets and doesn’t really commit.

Either Kane plays as a 9 and stays in the box, leads the press etc and you go with a creative 10 behind him, or you let Kane play as a false 9 and you commit to having two fast wide forwards either side like Saka and Rashford.
Its the same dance we've done for so many years as England fans: The big name player cannot be left out, so the coach picks them both and it all ends up looking lopsided and off-key. I wish Southgate would make a decision about how he wants to play, just like I wished the likes of Sven and McClaren etc would. However, it never ends up like that does it? We just have to hope it works out.

Problem with foden is he sometimes tries to walk it in the back of the net. Its the pep effect I suppose.

Hopefully we get the more direct/aggro version of him today. Still a chavy cnut though.
I don't see it as a problem per se. However, if you're going to pick him then you need to work around his strengths not ask him to do things that are alien to him. If you ask me, Foden should be seen as a false #9 for England (which is basically the position he played for City last season) and he should be used as an alternative to Kane not alongside Kane. That fits the puzzle pieces around him in this England squad better than where he plays with the City squad of this season.

My assumption is Foden will be sticking wide so being left footed helps, Shaw will underlap whereas on the other side Saka will tuck in and let Walker go wide/Bellingham will push forward on that side too.

We’ll see how he actually is going about it though. I do very much see the positives in Rashford on the left to tuck in when Kane drops deep too, lots of options
I hope it looks as coherent as you're describing it. Honestly, I'm not optimistic.

Penalties.
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Do people actually rate Rashford over Foden? Laughable.
I think Foden at City looks better. But Rashford has been a much more reliable goal-scorer and creater for England. That's kind of impossible to argue against.

But I'd have them both in over Mount. Mount is the Ji Sung Park of England. Does great pressing. Creates space. Decent at short passing. But means with a back 4, 2 central midfielders without goals you're basically playing with only 3 players on the pitch who know how to score.

If it’s 0-0 at half time I hope (an entirely unfounded hope) that waistcoat has the balls to change it

At least it's not Danny Murphy on BBC, I'm thankful it's on ITV Matterface or no Matterface.

That's smart. Undefeated in the WC since 1998.
Or better yet win a competition that immediately ends forever and you are always champions. Northern Ireland, still undefeated British Home Championship Champions.

England probably have enough quality to go through but a Senegal win would be brilliant. It'd be cool to see the last 2 African teams do well after no African team getting out of the groups in 2018.
