Yeah, the Canucks are a surprising bad team, a little bit like that Habs last season, though it's still early to make definitive statements. Now insight is always right but if I remember correctly the Habs were one of the teams very interested in taking Pettersson, I wonder if the Canucks regret the deal, Hughes and Pettersson contracts aren't great contract or contexts for a team in a possible forced rebuild, it's a like the Habs being anchored by Price's contract.
Hughes and Petey fanboy here so I'd always find it difficult to let go! The thing is, on paper at least, the Nucks look good up top. I like the addition of Mikhiyev now he's found his skates and fitness...even if the contract may be considered a touch heavy.

The contracts that bother me more are probably OEL at 7.5 odd million a season until 36 and JT Milller at 8 million a year until 37ish. Two huge contracts that we need to see the return on now as they most likely won't age well...and that doesn't sound like a rebuild...nobody is going to take contracts like that on in a trade.

Anyway, I'm novice level so can't claim to have any idea what I'm talking about!!

Needed that win over Seattle. Not a great performance but got a bit of luck where needed. Great win this morning against Penguins. Genuinely wasn't expecting that and probably the level of performance we need to get back into the season.

Got the last 3 Habs highlights to watch now. Missus at work, kids entertained... :)

Nostalgic right now seeing us play in our ‘totally shitty, but perfect for us in 1992’ original home uniforms.

Can we speak for a moment about the Bruins' signing of Mitchell Miller?

That is a prospect who was involved in several racial bullying incidents with a special needs student, Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, in Sylvania, Ohio when he was 14, which resulted in a conviction in juvenile court. The fact is that Miller never reached Meyer-Crothers' family to apologize or anything. The Arizona Coyotes were already pathetic enough to draft him despite knowing Miller's history, but even more disgusting is the fact that Boston signed him AFTER 1) Arizona renounced their rights on him and 2) the University of North Dakota (top NCAA hockey program) ditched him.

Seriously, what does that say about hockey culture not changing quickly enough?

The timing of it is completely absurd given what the hockey world has gone through the last few years with so many stories showing how awful hockey culture is in many places and this is complete FU to everyone who said it needs to be changed. Reading what Bettman has to say about it though and imagining the PR nightmare it will be for the league I doubt they will ever let him play regardless of how many programs he goes through.

It is a spit in the face. There is no other way to put it.

I thought Tony DeAngelo's case was already bad enough when those stories of him violating of the OHL's Harassment and Abuse/Diversity Policy (by allegedly making racist remarks to a teammate) became public knowledge in the wake of his shenanigans in the NHL. This whole thing with Mitchell Miller is basically DeAngelo on steroids. I also hope Bettman will maintain a permanent ban on the man to force Miller to self-exile in the KHL or to find a different career.

In the end, the Boston Bruins will part ways with Mitchell Miller. If it wasn't for Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Nick Foligno, go figure how long that mess would have dragged on.

But the harm has been done to the organization's image nevertheless. Cam Neely and Don Sweeney should not survive in their respective positions after that fiasco.

Dear christ (blood)…

That is not without reminding me of an injury on then-Habs player Donald Audette, who had his wrist tendons cut by a skate blade as he was attempting to prevent a breakaway. Audette needed months of rehab to come back in time for the 2002 playoffs, in which he looked good but was never the same afterwards.

And there’s that goalie who had his fecking throat skated over.

This is ugly.

Lord make it stop.
NGL, the Canucks were really awful. Boudreau should just not coach anymore in this league.

As for the Habs, I have to say that I have not been bored with them at all after 14 games in. Getting into a playoff spot may still be difficult, but this team looks like they will fight for a result every night. It's good development for the kids, including the 3 guys on the first line.

They were poor at the Sens the night before but got away with it...but we made Ottawa look good before getting hold of it the last 25 minutes.

Outshot for the most part, outworked and only really put anything together at 4 down. Would have been interesting if we'd converted on the PP at 4-2 with 8 odd minutes left but, once that was gone it sucked the air out.

I only know of Bruce what I saw last year after Green was fired. I liked what I saw but it's not translated into anything like what I would call a system to win hockey games.

Whether the Habs make a WC or not, they're fun to watch, which is why I'm trying to catch a few games if I can. Like you say, from the start of the season it seems like they are all pulling in the same direction and putting the work in. The opposite of Vancouver in many ways.

Habs looking decent tonight. First time in a while I’ve watched a game. Very impressed with Dach this season. Suzuki is running this game.

Playoffs or no? Of you had to go one way or other?
I have zero clue of their roster compared to other rosters. I saw a few predictions they'd finish no better than third/fourth in the division.
Started 4-0-1 and are .500 since. They may sneak a playoff spot but I do not expect much from them. Not really following them closely, the strike many years ago kinda ruined any daily following for me. That and Dallas falling off after the golden generation had moved on.

Solid stuff then.

.500 hockey is but a dream!!

Anytime Van go two goals up, lump a sum on the other team. You'll be making money in no time.

So sad to see Borje go so soon. He was definitely the very first purely born and bred European player to be a superstar in the NHL.

On a different topic, I have to say that Jim Cornelison has remained my favorite anthem singer for years. This bit from yesterday shows why. Solid in French too.

The Bruins in cruise control right now. Firing on all cylinders.
4 solid lines. Insane production.
Pastrnak, Bergeron and Ullmark all gunning for individual awards. McAvoy!

President trophy lock?

Nothing is a lock this early in a season. Especially when the lead is 2 points. Playoff place is almost a lock barring injury to Bergeron, for other things bigger sample size is needed.

No, I know. Slight hyperbole, sorry. But they do look pretty darn good. And it feels more sustainable than the Devils and Vegas.
(I have no other argument than feels. I know. It's bad)

Well feelings are why we follow the sport. Go ahead and enjoy it. Especially as it could be last year of Bergeron

Past that 20 game mark....what are people's thoughts?

Been a strange Western so far in that Calgary and Edmonton haven't been as hot as I might expect....plenty of time though.

Surprised by the start from NJ and of course Seattle...islanders have put some form together too by the looks.

Boston looking a machine.

My Jets have been way better then expected so far (may it continue all season!)

The Devils have been unreal, did not expect that (nobody probably did).
Calgary has indeed been surprisingly shit, including Markström.
Thought the Canucks would be better but they've been awful defensively and in goal (feck you Demko, ruining my fantasy team).

Canucks just have no D. The amount of games we have conceded 4 plus goals is criminal. I've liked Kuzmenko though....not a bad first few months as NHL player. Can't see Bo sticking around if this continues. Shame.

Jets have done pretty well tbf! Great start...beating Canes and Avs as well!

I'll honestly say I've never quite seen anything like that in my short hockey experience.

I'm not really quite sure what I watched!

As a Habs fan, this is my mood now.

If the players can't take criticism up front, they can feel free to feck off somewhere in some desert where hockey has no future.

I'll be honest....I've asked the same thing of the Nucks tbh.

You've won the game 3 times over there.

Crazy game. Refereeing in the spotlight again by the looks.
