Last Man Standing champion 2019/20
He was agreed for 31 million in the summer. What has changed since then , to be worth double of that ?

Do you not worry about the lack of a quality number 9 though
I'm not saying don't sign anyone, I'm saying Gakpo isn't the guy we should be going for. Gakpo will be a 50m squad player who fails to outperform other starters which isn't what we want. We need depth, 100%. Get someone to be depth. I'm very much OK with getting Memphis in January for cheap, having him rotate with Martial and have Rashford, Antony, Garnacho and Sancho be the wing options. That will be good enough to see us through to the summer or the following summer, where we have the budget to actually spend big on a player that suits us more.
Gakpo is just going after a shiny toy who scored a few goals in the first half of the season in the dutch league and a few goals against mediocre opposition in the world cup, and COMPLETELY ignoring what players we have, what sort of player Gakpo is, what our team needs actually are, and his adaptability to the Prem. He's prime potential flop material and generally just doesn't have the potential level that would be required to succeed here.
There were questions about whether he could do it in the PL, and after scoring for fun in the Dutch league and finding the net with relative ease in the WC it seem's he probably can have a decent impact in the PL also.He was agreed for 31 million in the summer. What has changed since then , to be worth double of that ?

But which ones? Not for PSV clearly, so are people simply judging him on two games in the World Cup against USA/Argentina while ignoring the 3 goals he scored in the group games? He played well against USA too, the only disappointing game was against the eventual winners Argentina.
I saw an interesting video on him, but I can't remember where, talking about the work he does with a Dutch football advisor. They analyse Gakpo's performance each game, what he did well, and what he should be doing. Someone who actively works on improving themselves in this way is gold dust, and that is why, without outstanding technical ability, he is able to post such good numbers, and improve them year on year. This attitude also makes him a great role model for younger players. After seeing the links and the numbers I got excited, but watching him play I was also not blown away. His attitude to improving his football brain is what really impresses me. I doubt there are many players who are so dedicated to this side of the game.Haven't seen enough of him to comment much but as people are asking what exactly he's good at, here's some quotes from a random Opta Analyst piece on him. Make of it what you will.
I'm with you. Excited couple of weeks ago but now strangely unsure. He is good for sure but not better than what we already got. Guess it depends what the final price will be.Honestly unsure about him... What I am 100% sure about however is we desperately need additions in january, especially attacking options.
It could be the difference between top 4 or not. So if ETH wants him then I hope he gets him.
He's not replacing anyone, we need depth.I'm with you. Excited couple of weeks ago but now strangely unsure. He is good for sure but not better than what we already got. Guess it depends what the final price will be.
Aye we do. As long it doesnt eat into our main transfer kitty for the summer. He's not replacing anyone, we need depth.
True but at least you knew our CBs were weak and we didn't have a left footer. Thought we'd have higher priorities rather than anything against Licha himself.Don't know if you specifically, but most of you were saying this same thing for licha so... Meh. Let's wait and see
If he replaces Elanga on the bench that's fine with me.Hard to get excited about this one. He's basically Rashford without the blistering pace. When Rashford, Martial and Antony are all fit he's on the bench for me.
I can understand the price increase but not this doubling . 35-40 m would be decent investment.Something like 12 goals and 15 assists in 19 league/Europa league games? And then three goals in the World Cup. Be strange if his price hadn't jumped.
More two-footed, better in the air and a better crosser then Rashford I’d say.Hard to get excited about this one. He's basically Rashford without the blistering pace. When Rashford, Martial and Antony are all fit he's on the bench for me.
Each World Cup goal is reckoned to be worth £10mHe was agreed for 31 million in the summer. What has changed since then , to be worth double of that ?

Gakpo for me just doesn't look anywhere near talented enough, along with just not being a position of need.
If we get him, I hope he can adapt to be a quality CF. He hasn't shown much hold up play game, but he is a smart player, a good passer/crosser and a brilliant shot. I don't think it's out of his realm of possibilities that he turns into a Kane type striker, but that's his 1% peak range of outcome. Need to see consistent hold up play ability and getting in the box far more often first, but if he doesn't develop that part of his game than he won't be more than a squad player.
He's not replacing anyone, we need depth.
That Cheeky Grin is prime profile picture materialThat seems pretty done dealio then. ETH is usually pretty stone faced but he was glowing with glea there
