Still think he would be amazing for you lot and I would be so happy if he left Barca. Can't stand that shithole of a club.

Fantastic player who'd be even more fantastic here, with Casemiro and EtH. Prizes bandied around here is probably too high, he's not going for £80-100m. We struck a deal with Barca last summer for £63m.

Moot point though, he's not coming. He didn't even come when they were trying to force him out and now he's playing every game. Final nail in the coffin was Antony being given the #21 shirt here.
Yep, we all love United, but he's playing for a team bossing the Spanish league, he's playing every week and he's in a magnificent location.
It'd be quite odd if he DID want to come really.

Except Barca was dying to get rid of him last summer due to sky high wages. This summer, we'll see.

Antony will be wearing 11 once it frees up this summer.

I hear he got booed last night and everyone laughed at him when Bruno booted the ball at him, so I suppose that would put him off if there were any possibility left.

I mean Barca fans were pretty much abusing him in person for not accepting a further paycut or leaving. Poor Frenkie is just getting cucked left, right and centre. He'll be used to it by now.

I'm all for going back and trying for him again. I imagine the manager still wants him, and I think he'd make a big difference in bringing more consistent control to our game. However, it needs to be a quick and decisive move. They'll both have had a year to sort things out, if there are still hurdles that are gonna make the deal protracted then we shouldn't get involved. Make Barca an offer and if they aren't interested then so be it, if they are talk to the player, if he isn't interested or there are other factors in the way, wish them all good luck but leave them to it.

he is obviously a very good player and has attributes that suits us. But if he doesn't want to come or if needs a lot of convincing for him to reluctantly join us, I'd stay away. Is not the end of the world, we will make do with plan b.

100%. I don't expect United players to pledge their love to the football club and get a club crest tattoo, but I do expect them to actually want to be here.

Aye, at least up for the challenge like with Casemiro's "tell them I'll fix this" attitude.

I think he’d have no problems joining us, he probably wants to feel appreciated and working with ETH he’d be the core of the team. But he dreamed of playing for Barcelona and he’s a regular there now, plus his wife loves it there. He really has no reason to join us, unless they try to force him out again, but that seems to have changed too.

It was his missus who decided
Why are people stating this like it's a fact? For all we know, the owed wages could have been the issue all along. It's all conjecture at this point. The only thing we know as a fact is, both clubs wanted the transfer but the player refused.

Misconception, I don’t think it was one or the other at all. We were talking to Casemiro long before frenkie
Where is the source on that? We only threw money on Casemiro at the last minute after the chase for Frenkie failed. The club didn't even know he was available. And how would we spend 60-70 million on Casemiro and then another 100 on Antony? That's not realistic.

Frankly, us failing to get Frenkie and ending up with Casemiro was a huge blessing in disguise. Frenkie isn't fit to lace Casemiro's boots and I'd fear we would have ended with another Pogba situation.

Or the most obvious answer. I.e. the player himself as he declared (he did right?) simply wanted to stay there and didn't want to go anywhere

Yeah, that's point it could. I could be any of those. I just don't get this constant let's blame his missus thing.

I trust in ten hag to make the right choices. Personally I agree with the idea of wanting players who want to be here. He clearly didn’t. Martinez, Casemiro, Antony, Varane. These guys are all showing a passion for the club and you can tell they want to be here. Through the hard times and the good.

FDJ didn’t want to come and play for the badge initially.

Fred gave an interview where he said Cas asked him about United as soon as the previous season ended and he told him to come. It was obvious the deal was in the pipeline long before the press caught winds of it.

As for the money, it was Antony’s, not Casemiro’s, that was meant to be spent on De Jong. We probably tried to negotiate down the Licha’s fee as well, as we had Gakpo agreed pretty much. Initial plan seemed to be De Jong + Gakpo instead of Antony, as Ajax were demanding too much. As soon as the FdJ deal collapsed, we bought Antony and Gakpo were never heard of again.

Aside the banter he's an improvement to Eriksen and Christian's injury has really impacted the midfields ability to dictate the tempo. Full backs can get higher, the wingers have more options. United need a proper number 8 with his qualities and or a Bellingham who can breakthrough into the final third.

Ten Hag has shown a lot of things in his time here and one of them is he isn't a fool. If he was pushing for Frenkie then there must have been something in it.

He's a top player, would fit us better than he does Barcelona. I imagine that the atmosphere last night will play on his mind for a while. If Barcelona try to push him out again this summer you'd imagine he'd be annoyed by it so it's in their hands, really.

Just watch the video of him looking around Old Trafford during the Barca training session. Not just looking but REALLY looking around the place. He was clearly thinking "yesh, thish ish where I shshall play nexsht sheashon" whilst mentally rolling one up and wondering if Stretford has any decent clog or windmill shops.

I thought he was good yesterday and he would definitely do well in our team. But as others have pointed out - he plays the best, when Busquets is around and the defensive burden isn't on him completely. While we could provide him with that in Casemiro today and most likely next year, we don't know how things work out after it. FDJ would help us for sure but in those two games I haven't seen a player that extraordinarily to rectify the huge outlay in BOTH transfer fee and salaries. Right now it seems we are getting the wage structure more under control, we shouldn't feck it up at the first chance for a player that seem to have the same issue as Pogba - someone who doesn't flourish when too much responsibility is put on him.

His ball carrying ability would certainly be helpful, but we might get that from Hannibal for free. We have more than one issue in the squad these days - we shouldn't shop around as if only one piece of the puzzle is needed.
Comparing De Jong to Pogba makes basically 0 sense. FDJ provides actual Casemiro cover (even if it's not his best role) and is probably the best pure 8 available in the world. If you want to get good players they are going to cost a lot, we aren't Brighton. There's also 0 evidence that he would require some outlandish wages (you do realize we pay DDG 400k a week right?)

Being knocked out early in Europe, how much a beating have they taken financially? Will they be forced to try and sell him again this summer?

Casemiro is a better short term purchase but in 2 years time Erikson/Casemiro will be too old. Remember how Matic was by the end?

Rice/Bellingham/FdJ types are required medium term.

this guy really hasn't done much recently to deserve the hype he gets around here
Really hasn't, he's yet to even match the heights that he hit at Fiorentina after his big money move to Juve last year

Wrong. First there was an article saying we were in talks with him the Christmas before the summer and this was confirmed by Casemiro himself, said he wanted a new challenge. It’s out there, I’m sure you can find out if you google. It seems the plan was both of them. The money was spent on Antony last minute. I suspect we wouldn’t have agreed for him if we’d got Casemiro and DeJong

This.

Casemiro: 31
Fred: Will be 30 in March
Eriksen: 31
Bruno: 29 in Sep

I am completely discounting Scott McT as I don’t see him as a regular midfielder for us and also any acedemy midfielder coming in as it’s always a hit and miss.

Please stay away from Rice and Jude, they will cost a fortune and I really don’t see the hype with both especially with the 100-150m figures thrown around. For me, Jude is a jack of all trades but master of none. We need to on priority get FdJ this window (I think we will have a good chance) and also need an upcoming WC potential cover for Casemiro.

In attack, all are young and have the quality to play for us. All we need is a WC striker this year and I want no one but Osimhen.

In defense, we are good for another season without any need for adding players but we should definitely sell Macquire for another young CB with big potential without paying the stupid money.

Also if we sell WB, replace with the same money. I think WB improved performances should now get us 25plus mil.

Now all this assumes, we don’t go and spend like Chelsea under new ownership.

Also, we don’t want to disrupt the team too much by adding way too many players as it’s difficult to gel them in.
