I really find it shite and wanted to like it. What makes this any better than the first seasons of The Walking Dead? I think it's worse to be honest and it's not like TWD was one of the greatest shows ever either.

The two shows are totally different. I quite liked some early TWD seasons but I don’t see any reason to compare it to TLOU.

Was more than that thou. Gave a glimpse into her fears & sexuality, the reason why she hates neither the Feds nor the Fire Flys, her hatred/morbid fascination with the infected. In a way why she bonds with a male father figure like Joel or at least why she trusted him quite easily for a girl who is skeptical of most people.

It did that too, but by far mlst screen time was actually her doing mundane stuff that's not mundane to her.

In a longer season I wouldve been fine with this, but we only get 9 episodes to begin with.

Also might have minded less if I had no knowledge of how it was going to play out I suppose.

The only problem with dedicating a whole episode to a bit of someones backstory is if there's only like 9 episodes or something, then you gotta wait a year+ for more. At which point you don't care cos its so annoying.

Annnnnnnyhoo. Another good episode. Not a lot happened but carried by some great performances. I liked the whole “five wonders” angle. Plus them gradually getting sloshed on incredibly expensive liquor that some poor bastard decided to end his life drinking. That was pretty dark.

It was not an all action Jackson type episode, but I do appreciate and enjoy very much the contextual episode and how much they are humanizing people/main characters because that can always get lost in the hellscape of the world in general and especially in the setting they are in.

Young teenagers, figuring out their feelings and connections without parental guidance or 'sane/normal' guidance. And traumatizing times having an impact on how people live their lives and the actions they make.

Joel didn't even have to say a word and the impact the characters had at the beginning and end was tremendous.

So if we're basing it on the show, seems like Ellie would go to the Fireflys and that woman (Marlene) who recruited her roommate/best friend (Riley), is the person in charge of Ellie since that night? Maybe they won't go into it further, but seems like the loop is closed on when/how Ellie is chained to the space heater and why she has to repeat those directions to prove that she isn't infected. Because the clothing gives it away at least to me and the backback, plus having the pun book, and then we understand why the knife is so coveted by Ellie. So they continue to move forward and they both go to the Firefly's that night before the infection really spreads for Riley and then it doesn't for Ellie.

Interesting I felt it was placed incredibly well. In the game this whole episode is essentially DLC. I was curious if and how they might have fit it in and thought it was placed perfectly. That's also knowing what is coming in the next few eps

Based on the second option they talked about, Ellie and Riley just stayed in there till Riley turned and Ellie had to kill her. Then in the morning or the other day, the FireFlies with Marlene found them there with only Ellie alive. If you recall, the mall was a Firefly outpost and Riley was supposed to leave to Atlanta in the morning, so its very likely Fireflies and Marlene came looking for her there.

In an earlier episode Ellie tells Joel that it's not the first time she's had to kill a person. That person was Riley. I assume from then, when Riley doesn't return to the Firefly's they send out a crack squad of elites to sweep the mall and find Ellie. I've embellished the last bit... They kinda go through it in the episode podcast

an extended flashback

was what the story needed at this point, maybe should have dripped it out more over the season. Also the dialogue felt a little forced at times, despite some great work by Ramsey. But if this is one of the season's weaker episodes then that's a pretty high low point.
