Ole Gunnar Solskjær | Managerial Watch | Reports: Being considered for Canada job

He's not someone like Zidane who can wait for a perfect job and turn down very good opportunities to get great opportunities.

Ole's reputation as a manager with United fans is divided but outside of United he's not taken seriously as a manager at all especially at PL level. Has he even had an interview for a PL job since he left us?

The way we laugh at Lampard here is how he's seen generally across the league. The goodwill and emotional ties to the club are what got him through many bad periods and extended his stay well beyond what it should have been. He'd be chased out of any PL club within months if he joined in my opinion.

Love him as a player and always will, one of my favourites but he's a shite manager.

exactly. Managers can also get better, and we all knew ole was out of his depth managing United at that time in his career but the guy is a hard worker and can very well accelerate his game.
At the end of the day it turned out to be too big of a job for him. This club is an extremely difficult one to find success with. It's a club with a fed-up fanbase, starved of major success, a mish-mash squad of brilliant and distinctly average players, many who are not playing to their potential and the eyes of everyone upon you, just waiting for you to slip-up.

It takes a strong-willed and tactically-expert manager to get a tune out this team, at a level that Ole is not quite at. It doesn't mean he can't be at a suitable level for other teams.

Ole was not a modern manager who had his own style and needed the squad to conform with his style. Hence why he gave the main tactical and coaching duties to Carrick and McKenna.

Ole oversees and delegates, that's fine, but it's not as typical now that approach. After his second season at United, the Return of Ronaldo year, it was not only too much for him, but for Carrick and McKenna trying to balance the egos and team style to improve above 2nd/3rd. They were all inexperienced coaches and man managers of people and a squad at that high level. And then it showed. So much division and fractured relationships, egos, etc. It was too much.

But for his coaching tree with McKenna and Carrick...they are obviously going rather well and long may it continue. Shows Ole knew he had capable coaches and he allowed them to do their good work and it just went tits up a few months into the 3rd season with Ronaldo.

I think it's funny how Spurs haven't been in for him. A bottler for a bottle club. Something, something math about double negatives.

Maguire and Wan Bissaka are the only ones I take issue with there. If we’d had a director of football they’d have piped up and said we’re not signing players that only work in a low block if we want to dominate the ball at any point in the next few seasons. That said I don’t think they’re bad players, just vastly overpriced and they don’t suit our style. Ole should have known this though.

Bruno was a great buy, Donny looked amazing at Ajax, Telles was a 12m backup and played as such, James was a promising young player who we moved on for twice what we paid, and every man and his dog wanted Sancho on here - blaming Ole for signing one of the most promising teenagers in the world is a new one.
I mean that sort of reasoning is why I really take issue with Ole.

If any passionate fan like me or you is not supposed to be a criteria to manage Man United. Ole playing football manager just signing top quality/hottest players for bumper fees and hoping it would all work out on the pitch didn't work, for good reason.

Thing with Donny, Sancho is they might be really good players but there was no plan on how to use them all together. Really what's ole's job then if all a Man United manager has to do is sign the top players on redcafes transfers forum section?

Not surprised the club isn't named that he rejected. However, credit to Ole, even though he was an awful manager, at least Ralf made him he look less of a con artist. It would be funny if Ole does better than ETH.. I might have to reevaluate things if he does

I will be surprised if he gets a job in the premier league outside a relegationcandidate team. He needs to follow mckenna and get one in the championship and build his cv there and learn some of the fundamentals in coaching a team.
I wouldn't say awful. He's better than Frank. I would say average.

Oh do fecking behave.

multiple semi finals and a EL final is much better form than what Moyes did.

Feck me.
Moyes only had 8 months in the job and was massively let down by Ed Woodward, he gave Woodward a list of players he wanted in the first transfer window but ended up with only Fellaini who wasnt even on that list.

Moyes had a certain way of playing which didnt fit the squad he inherited and in his whole tenure he was given only 2 new players Fellaini and Mata who were both midfielders when I think what he needed was decent wing backs like he had at Everton with Baines and Coleman so if he had of been given more time and been able to get the players he needed in the summer 2014 window he may have done much better in his 2nd season.

Not sure of getting us relegated in his second season and then winning the Championship in his third qualifies as a much better job.

He did absolutely nothing to deserve more time. Basically the moment your players give up on you it is over. They don’t care or directly or indirectly they don’t try (hard).

That doesn’t even always mean that they intentionally do it. It’s not that they have a meeting in which they collectively decide to get the managers sacked (there may be exceptions but I don’t believe that’s what usually happens).
It’s more that the players realise the manager has taken them as far as he could, no new ideas, no hope, no inspiration, etc. so they stop believing in him, in themselves, aren’t motivated and things turn from bad to worse. Happens at every club usually before the manager is sacked. With Jose it happened. With Ole it happened in his 3rd full season a few months after the Ronaldo signing.

With Moyes however it already happened after a few months. Or maybe even before he started. But he did absolutely nothing to gain the trust of the players. Actually the opposite. Blaming the players and everyone but himself in the press, the Jagielka story and all that. So he was never going to survive for longer than he already did.

Yes, if only he'd stayed a bit longer, we'd be West Ham by now.

If we'd have sacked him in November, that would have been too late also.

Utter nonsense and it's proved you've not learned anything from the last ten years. Ole is the only manager we've had post Fergie to finish top 4 in consecutive seasons.
If finishing top four is our ultimate target, then yes, he didn't set us back.

If those top four finishes were supposed to be stepping stones for bigger things, then he did set us back. Because he didn't reach those bigger things, but was allowed to spend a lot of money and restructure the squad - that is now not fit for purpose and requires another huge investment to be rebuild.

No, no no, bloody hell no, why do you people keep hashing this nonsense.

He took a team who had cruised a title to 7th!
There's nothing to say he wouldn't have taken us even lower the next year.

Nope. Vidic was asked in an interview about it and he didn’t deny it. He could have said that it wasn’t true/rubbish. He tried to avoided the question and gave some kind of justification for it. Don’t remember the exact word but something along the lines of every manager has different methods. That’s as much of a confirmation as you will get from a professional player. Vidic was never going to say haha, yeah what a moron Moyes was.

Always thought he won't be that interested in managerial career after his United stint. He has the money, he already did his dream job and I can see why going back into it isn't that appealing to him after United.

“I don’t know where that came from to be honest, that’s something that never happened,” Ferdinand told Savage Social.

“Listen, Phil Jagielka was a very good player. I’m sure he wouldn’t have shown us videos of Phil of how we should be doing this and that, but I don’t know where that came from. That’s just some mad tale that’s come out of nowhere.

“Someone has dreamed that up and it’s become a great meme.”

It was one of the many dumb stuff the press released about Moyes back then.

The reality is it was an aging squad with many players past it. It needed a refresh.

Did Ole have the best squad in the league or even the second best in his time as manager? I honestly don't think he did. So why did we expect miracles?

Was he the man to take back the PL title? Probably not but I still don't see him as a complete failure. Finishing 2nd and 3rd in this league wasn't something to just brush under the carpet. Things did go wrong in season 4 though for sure.

I still blame the owners and the board for most of the last 10 years. Ole didn't really do any worse than any of the others which says everything. We've been set up to fail.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
This club has been failing because of the owners and the board.
Yes, and a big part of that has been them making literally laughable managerial appointments.

With OGS being the pinnacle of those appointments - a manager who literally cannot get ANY OTHER job in the PL… yet is given the fecking Man Utd job ffs.

And no, I don’t hate him, I Love him, I wish him well. But ffs lets call it how it is.

Hasn't the same thing happened to every single manager?

This is why the Glazers have to go. The longer a manager stays the more they just start getting the blame.

Ole went a whole season without losing an away game. Only time it's ever happened in our entire history. 3rd and 2nd place finishes. Great record Vs Pep.

The managers have been failing because the people behind the scenes aren't professional enough to run a a sweet shop let alone a huge football club.
Yes, I do agree, but I’d also say that the choices of manager have not been good either. Which could be seen as a reflection of the ineptitude of the owners and board, too, of course. I think ETH is certainly the best, but yeah, I pray that the Glazers will feck right off.

Oh, I agree. Solskjaer wasn't to blame. He was just another bad appointment in a series of bad appointments. None of the managers post Fergie were good enough to take us where we want and he was one of them.

As for the squad, he had the time and money to make it much better. He was at least partly at fault for that not happening.

He wasn't a complete failure but in the grand scheme of things, of a club wanting to challenge for the league and the CL, he was never going to do that.

I dont think you fully understand. Not every newspaper and media outlet is like those in Egypt mate ;)
That's not really a response. Your evidence is that Norwegian media are claiming their Norwegian manager got offers. Great sources. We haven't heard a single name out of those imaginary clubs till, guess what, an actual offer came from Brugge.

They both won no trophies. But Ole saddled the club with half a dozen flops and green lit tying down half a dozen more on ridiculous contracts.

Yup, that's a fair assessment. We didn't know Ole's ceiling, he took us to several semi finals and finals and couldn't get us over the line. He wasn't a disaster and left us in a semi decent position squad wise. Had some entertaining games, some very good runs of form, it ended in a disappointing way. Ultimately when we failed to win the Europa League we should have parted ways at that point.

Yeah, he didn't really do any worse despite, two of his three predecessors winning three trophies between them and also finishing in the top four. Our new manager has won a trophy in his first season.

By that logic every manager so far since Fergie set us back (and in a way you may be right).
Well, it's either you take a step forward, backward, or stay the same..

if you stay the same and other teams got better, you've Gone backwards.
If you improve, especially more than other teams, youve gone forwards.

and if you go back.. u go back.

most managers we had since Fergie were either a step back or maintained, depending on who they took over for.

Horseshit all.

One of the first bids we made was a double for Baines and Fellaini. When Baines wasn't happening then Moyes I shit you not wanted to wait to sign someone else first so Fellaini wouldn't be under pressure. But because the rest of his targets were unrealistic we ended up having to pay even more for Fellaini as his release clause expired. Woodward was a clown but Moyes being a bigger clown made his job all the harder.

Moyes had 11 months not 8 and in all honesty he had about 4 months too many he should have got the boot around Xmas.

He had Evra and Rafael.
