Absolute nightmare for him to get injured especially when Varane already appears to have a knock and needs to be managed at the best of times.

My initial thought was metatarsal but commentary seems convinced it was achilles.

Let's not panic just yet. Probably out for remainder of this season by looks of it but we know literally nothing yet.

Now this is the worst possible injury after casemiro. Hope it's nothing major, but it's likely a season ender whatever it is. Hope it's nothing that impacts next season.

My guess is we won’t see him again until October. Fingers crossed it’s sooner though

Best to wait and see what has actually happened before we panic too much.

I thought the same
Yeah I think we’re overreacting because of what Savage said. The replay looked like he hyper extended his toes while putting all his weight on them. Then afterwards he was holding the front of his foot.

Not ideal obviously but that doesn’t look like an Achilles to me

It's nothing to do with the achilles I'm sure. A rupture or torn achilles hurts like a motherfecker and he didn't seem to be in unbearable pain. Plus, he wasn't holding the achilles. I think its one of the smaller ligaments in his ankle that may have gone. Nevertheless, be very surprised if he plays again this season :(

Can't spell Mkhitaryan
Yup. Then he grabbed the top of his foot. His hand never went anywhere near the back of his leg. When your Achilles goes it’s like being hit with an axe on the back of your leg. His reaction didn’t look like that at all.
Agreed. I think people are just taking what Savage said and running with it.

Wasn't he crying on the touchline after being carried off?

Why the hate on Acuna and Montiel ? They did nothing wrong.
Hopefully Licha will be back soon. A honey badger doesn't go down that easily.
Pair of pricks all game. Nothing against them helping him off the pitch.

Found 2 cases of Achilles tendon ruptures on transfermarkt so far (European top league):

Loftus-Cheek missed 280 days (9 months) and 38 games for Chelsea.

Agustín Marchesín of Celta Vigo suffered a rupture on 3 Feb this year and is expected to be out until October.
Chelsea actually had two of those fecking injuries within one month of another back in 2019 with both Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

CHO came back within maybe 5-6 months but has never really recovered the explosive pace he once had and that's definitely hindered with his development as a player. RLC took about a year to even get back to training and even then it was a very long road to recovery that also included a year on loan at Fulham because of how terrible he looked at first after returning from the injury.

So yeah, if Martinez has indeed done his achilles then chances are he's looking at a 6-12 month recovery layoff and even then it can take a long time to get back to the pre-injury levels of performance.

The worst low of a disastrous night has been losing Licha. Varane also out potentially.

A friend of mine took his left one last year and he thought that someone had kicked him hard as feck from behind before realising that no one was even near him. Said it hurt like hell.

If it’s actually his achilles, then he’s a harder bastard than we all thought. Would expect far more pain than that. Isn’t it supposed to be worse than a broken leg?

I’d rather have lost that game 10-0 than this be the injury feared.

At times, it's genuinely exhausting being a United fan because there's always one of our star players that get injured. We can never just have all our best players fit and in form at the same time. One comes back, another goes out.. feck sake.
