Jesus, we're really hitting a tricky patch of bad luck.

Well, partly that and partly the demands of a long, gruelling season.

6 weeks out? I’d have snapped your metatarsal off for that this morning

That's very good news. They should avoid to rush his recovery at all costs though, we saw what happened with Neymar.
But new methods speed up the healing of bone fractures have been used more and more the last years, right? Think a lot of them focus on increasing blood circulation close to the fracture and the results can be pretty significant IIRC from some report I saw/read/heard about a few years ago.

That’s what I thought it was. A tough one. Varane update?

No it was Ferrara I’m sure … Carvalho was just next to the incident I spent months cursing Carvalho cz I thought it was him but then I realised it wasn’t
It was Ferrara, I remember very well, Rooney was on through on goal, then the tackle. Then the infamous Rooney screaming.

I believe our season went dark from there on. Some 17 years ago.

There's only one United!
So no Martinez, Maguire and Varane for the Brighton semi-final

Thank god for only a metatarsal break. Hopefully he’s got luck on his side for healing and shaves a bit of time off a la Eriksen.

Six weeks? We've come a long way.

If it's his Achilles then he's done. Like proper done, no one comes back from that
Career, not just season
Try career
Achilles is a career ender, not just a long term injury
It's a career ender, go and check players who have had the injury previously then wobble your head
If you're not ready to hear the truth thats on you

I'd imagine it 4 to 6 weeks for it to heal. He would only resume light work on it then. Doubt he'll be back this season.

Rooney was out for 6 weeks when he fractured his. Let’s hope this is the same outcome.

His season is probably finished. He’ll be fit and raring to go for pre season, which is more than most of us could have wished for last night.

Yep, silly to think he will play any part in the remainder of the season. Sucks, but as you said, it's a hell of a lot better than what it looked like.

I did? People said it was his Achilles and that he was out for the season, I said season? Try career.

Not really sure why you're laughing either, most people thought it was his Achilles based on what they saw, irrespective of what Robbie Savage thought on the matter.

But of course you knew better all along right? Couldn't have possibly been his Achilles last night could it? Where was this confidence before Ten Hag said he doesn't think it's his Achilles?
Ten Hag: I have an idea what it is but I don’t cause speculation

You (multiple times): It’s a career ender

Do we actually know if Varane has an injury? I know he came off, but he did play on, it can't be that bad.

why did they think that? He clutched the top of his foot, not his heel. When I read Ten Hag responding that it wasn't his achilles I thought that was weird, becuase I was wondering who thought their achilles was on the top of their foot?

If he's back in 4 or 5, Utd will still have several games left, cup finals are later this year
If they're saying 6 weeks it probably won't be less. And even then he'd have to get fitness back.

It could be a spiral fracture through the shaft, does not have to be a transvers one. If it is a sprial one (known as dancers fracture) as below it usually does not need any surgical treatment.

Yes, an Achilles rupture is a career ender. We've established that multiple times even though you're extremely reluctant to accept it for some reason.

I think it was the nature of how he went down with no one around him. In that instance it's not an impact injury, so that would normally rule out a break, he didn't look like he rolled his ankle so that rules out a sprain, the only thing you're left to presume is that a tendon has popped, and he was holding his ankle/back of his heel, so anyone presuming that was the case at the time has very good reason to do so I'd say.

It was hilarious here last night. Redcafe physicians handing out career-ending diagnoses like WebMD dishes out cancer predictions. The hubris of some of the posters, speaking in absolutes as only a true internet nobody can. Regarding Martinez, it is neither good nor bad. He is out for the season which sucks but luckily escaped the Achilles injury that some here were salivating over him having.
