Good news all in all, could have been much worse. Despite the usual melodrama in here.

Maguire, Lindelof and Shaw are good players who can help us achieve things still this season. Though granted we are now thin at CB.

Never thought I’d take the news of a metatarsal break so well.

Maguire and Lindelof for most of the run in then. We are about to play some shambolic stuff.

Looking forward to being pressed high by teams again and conceding unforced errors again. Maguire, Lindelof and De Gea with the ball at their feet….yikes.

Balls so do we give the cups a crack or prioritize the league for top 4 ?
At this point it doesn't make much of a difference.

Fa cup I'd say no chance vs City and big underdogs vs Brighton. Europa League I'd still rank us favourites. Should be ok for 4th still.

Awful news. Martinez is a really important cog in the way we build from the back and Varane is an elite defender.

That said, such is life, and we will now need our other defenders to step up.

That being said, I'd probably recall Telles and make Shaw the left sided centre back next to Maguire or Lindelof.

We might limp past Sevilla and Brighton, but I can’t see us having enough to go all the way now. Gloomy as it sounds, we’d do well just to cement 4th from here.

That’s one of the most rotten games I can remember in recent years. Anything that could go wrong for us did go wrong. Hope we have the mentality to get us back on track.

Season's done. Really disappointing to end with 5th and a Carabao Cup but it's still better than we were expecting I guess. Just need the Glazers to feck off.

That's two negatives and right now I need a positive.

Damn. At least Martinez will be ready for the start of next season, so at least that's something.

So it's Maguire, Lindelof, and Shaw as centre backs for the next few weeks.
Shaw has been quality back there in fairness, so at least he is another option.
Just need Malachia not to be in yesterday's form if that happens!

Last night’s match was wretched on so many levels. A subtle kick in the bollox was Malacia putting in one of the worst LB performance’s since Evra’s debut in the very same game which would see him possibly become first choice in that position so Shaw can play at CB. So depressing.

Isn't is a bit strange to fracture a bone just from running? At least unusual.

People talk about Maguire and Lindelof like it's just guaranteed we're going to lose with them in the backline.

Losing Licha and Varane is absolutely a major blow but I'd say the vast majority of the sides we have left should be beatable with Maguire and Lindelof in the side.

I hope there’s an ounce of truth in the blind faith afforded to Maguire by some on here. We’re going to need it in bucketloads. Ffs.

How many times has this been said on here this season
Would you honestly trust Maguire and Lindelof to get something done as a pair? I prefer to chuck Shaw and/or a CB from the academy in to protect our goalkeeper.

Who is the best CB from the youth teams this year? That kid better be ready to play some games at the highest level.

Don't see us winning in Seville or at Wembley now tbh.

Everything rests of getting over the line in race for CL.

If we don't finish top 4 then heads need to roll.
At least Maguire is suspended at Wembly vs. Brighton... :smirk:

big underdogs vs Brighton. Europa League I'd still rank us favourites.
How does that work? If we're huge underdogs against Brighton - and we are, I agree - then we really can't be considered favourites in the EL which has better teams than Brighton. Not to mention we're in a near impossible position ahead of the second leg.

Case played a game as a CB earlier in the season, right? Bruno at CDM and Shaw-Case at CB. :)

If everyone can change their mindset and accept that we will miss out of the cup competitions but finish top 4 then most people will believe we’ve had a decent season plus that Martinez will be there for the start of the next season. Then psychologically it makes you feel better.
