Really poor signing if it happens imo.

We should be buying starters, not squad players.

Wow; seems a strange use of our (reportedly) quite limited budget this summer :nervous:

What the hell are these numbers! Didn't we try to sign FdJ for 80M just last season? Or am I dreaming?

40M tops and anything over that we're getting fleeced. The McT transfer should pay for this one.
Probably, we supposedly want 30 for McTominay. Mount works out at 20 million per season if 50 million fee and 200k a week (100 combined split over a 5 year deal).

I like the idea of getting someone with better close control than Bruno but this guy would definitely be a squad option. For that price tag it makes little sense to me. Could be proven wrong on this one as he definitely has something, but I’d be looking at deeper midfield players.

The best thing about this thread is we can come back to it in a years time to quote posts. You'd think we are buying a Championship player from some of the posts here.

Before this season I've watched Chelsea a bunch of times and always thought we could use a player like Mount. There were even times I thought I'd have him ahead of Bruno, and in the long run I still think this might be true.

I like this because he's at the right age, PL proven and is as versatile as it gets. The fact that he isn't the finished article and EtH can work with him to mould him into an even better creative player excites me.

This was coming tbh. My opinion is neither he nor the club were entirely convinced of renewing. Hence Mount and his team discussing terms elsewhere in the meantime.

Between him, Kova and RLC going, that'll be almost 100m brought in already. Hopefully means Caicedo and/or Ugarte come in

Absolutely not the type of midfielder we need.

Anything more than 40 million and this is a very bad move to open the summer window.

Why are you so sure hes not starting. Eriksen is hardly ripping up trees.

Mount for the two to three seasons before the one just ended was Chelsea's best player.

While Kone is an exciting prospect, what has he ever done in his career and what guarantees do we have that he will improve us?
Ive watched quite a bit of him and would rather we go for potential. If it’s good enough for Madrid to sign camavinga, tchouameni, why shouldn’t we have an eye to the future?

we still have experience in Casemiro, Eriksen.

He will start. It’s not the fancy huge name signing. But he really is an excellent player. EtH knows exactly what his doing.

I'm surprised by how underrated Mount is on here. From what iv seen of him he will be a fantastic signing and I can see why ETH wants him. He was part of the team that beat man city in the champions league final and excluding this season has been very good for Chelsea. This season Chelsea in general have been rubbish so I wouldn't hold that against any Chelsea player at the moment.

He is. We just need two different types. He absolutely fits the profile for an attacking 8

I’d rather see us go all in and fix the midfield and GK positions this summer. Patch up the forward position and RB with some unknowns and then sign Kane and a world class CB/RB next summer
Caicedo, Raya, Kim, Ramos/Hojlund would be my summer, and I agree that we must get Kane next year. Players who guarantee that goal output are so rare these days. Can’t miss our chance to get him.

The above is easily doable with sales of up to £80m factored in.

Exactly. But his name is Mason Mount and plays for England and not Eduardo Aurelien Ngombélé from Angola/France so he is shit by default.

I'm surprised at this signing but I'll trust the manager's judgment on this one. He's earned the right to be trusted and I'd not back against him proving this decision a good one.

Not that excited about this (I’m not a football expert though). And it’ll probably be for a big fee.. And don’t think Chelsea would be selling him to a rival if he was that good.
I think it's just a simple case of a club selling a player who's contract expires in 12 months and who rejected their latest contract offer. Similar to Raya with Brentford - he's one of their better players who will generate a high transfer fee, so they don't want to lose him on a free next year. Also, Chelsea aren't our rivals. They finished 12th and have a bloated squad full of unproven youngsters on 8 year contracts.

Great to get him in early if possible. Really hope he's not our only midfield signing though.

Casemiro-Mount-Bruno as a midfield three doesn't look particularly well balanced to me. We should be okay at the frenetic, high-tempo stuff, but there's not much in the way of control there. I think Casemiro plus either Mount or Bruno would be fine, but you'd ideally want the third midfielder to be someone with a good passing range who can dictate the tempo of the game a little more - I think that is something that has been missing at United this season and it wouldn't be solved by bringing in Mount.

The underrating of mount is incredible here! I do wonder if people to watch proper football
I think he's a good player but his best position is where Bruno plays, don't think he's the type of player we need alongside Casemiro

Presuming McTominay is sold to cover part of this fee it’s a decent upgrade.
