Directly under the sun... NOW!
I see it more as a sober reflection of where we are. We definitely had patches where we were rampant and we came close to that 2nd goal a few times (Garnacho, Rashford, Varane + McT combo), but in the end, City's team is just at a higher level than ours - even if we had all of our first team players available.
I'm just not used to hardcore sobriety. I think we're conflicted as a fanbase. For City we have our hate and... you know... our... "acknowledgement" for their squad. For United we feel pride and disappointment. For the season we feel content and exhausted. Even though we played well and got close we jus don't have anything left. It's just flat.

It's the reality mate. They're simply better than us. Reality is usually depressing that's all.

Anyway the positive from this is whoever the next owner they'd know we really need to spend big this summer.
Damn reality always getting in the way of dreams. Oh well. That's the season. This sale better go through

Proud of the boys to have two more shots than City considering all they’re allegations and how stacked they are.

No idea why garnacho didn’t start, not sure what Weghorst brought on that others couldn’t have and thought Sancho was keeping possession well, I would have kept what we were doing because we were holding the ball well around the 18 and garnacho was getting in dangerous positions. Poor to bring Weghorst on.

Was a match that could have gone either way, we slightly edged the chances but were undone by a couple of ludicrously good strikes that ordinarily would have flown into the stands.

With our first choice team I genuinely think we'd have won.

I don't think people are just saying we need to just replace De Gea. Actually, have a look through most of the threads, and you'll quite clearly see that isn't the case. That being said, of course having a good ball playing keeping would help us control games. Did you see City's second choice keeper on the ball?

Don't get me wrong, I'd probably keep De Gea but we should be getting in a top ball [playing keeper, that will help with our build play in the first phase of play.
Not really. There are heated discussion that he’s at least the second priority. Hard to believe by watching this game, people still think the same. But it is what it is.

Fair enough. It did seem to trickle in, and when I initially saw it, I thought it was a soft goal to concede.
Yeah he got enough of a hand on it anyway, but it was his positioning that was off. Slow to react to the whole situation. Just way too soft of a goal to concede and 100% on him that. Can't be conceding to shots like that in a final.

Always the same players that are incapable of turning up on the big occassion. And people said Antony is our problem up front...

As well as being far better on the ball they are far better physically. This team is easily bullied and needs addressing in the market.

Eriksen was terrible today. His form since coming back from injury has been woeful. He was second best to every ball.
You're quite correct on that. Couldn't believe we started with him today. Way too lightweight and anonymous. He needs replacing next season 100%

You can't beat cheats at the end of the day. In a couple of years that trophy will be awarded to us without ceremony but it's ours

Inter can beat them, they have a far superior attack than ours.

100% is the 2nd priority after striker. CM after him. You can't control a game with your goalkeeper punting the ball away every 2 seconds. You can't withstand pressure if your goalkeeper is useless at dealing with set pieces and dealing with high balls. So many issues with him these days. His shot stopping, his once only elite attribute, is now painfully average. That was the difference today unfortunately, well that and not having someone put the ball in the net at the other end.

Honest question, were the posters complaining about the atmosphere at the game today? Reason I ask is it's usually just one section of the stadium that gets mic'd up on TV, which tends to result in one set of fans sounding louder than the other.

We lost to the team that’s soon to go down as the biggest cheats in English football history…

Lost to the biggest cheats in English football history, we are just one of many that have lost out.

I wanted us to try and win the game mate. City were barely out of first gear. They didn't need to be. But ah well eh?
But we did, though. We came with a clear set of gameplans and we did 1) nick a goal, 2) suffocate City in their final third and 3) not get completely overran in midfield (though Eriksen did make life easier for them). It would have been borderline suicidal matching up with them player for player with the players we have currently.

Can someone who knows football explain to me why Eriksen has been playing for so long? What the Ten Hag has been thinking?
Sadly I didn't even know that Eriksen was playing until his number went up for the substitution.

I’m so tired of hearing this. Nobody outside England gives a flying flip about City’s ownership. They are winning trophies and have become an international brand in the span of a decade. The idea that they’re not being taken seriously is simply untrue. They are considered the best team in the world…no asterisks. United fans can sit on their high horses, but City are lifting trophies. Pretty sure no fan in the world (outside a few of ours) would rather be in our position than theirs.
This is a good point, back in the 1990s and the following decade Man United were the dominant team financially - but nobody said that they were 'cheats'. You were buying people like Rio Ferdinand at a price that was a world record for a defender in 2002. Money doesn't guarantee success £600 million spent by Chelsea recently proves that!

Exactly, there is a lot of work to do this summer and when we recruit new players, we need to seriously sign players with character and a wining mentality, Let’s hope a quick sale happens now and all the Glazers feck off so we can start the huge rebuild from top to bottom !
To continue the point about finances, what do Man Utd. fans think when they see Sir Alex Ferguson sat next to a member of the Glazer family? The TV cameras kept zooming in on that. Does it not risk damaging his legacy being seen sat next to a member of the family that fans hate so much. I am surprised he didn't swap with David Gill just to put a buffer zone in place, although perhaps the Glazer insisted on it knowing that fans are less likely to shout abuse in his direction if he is sat next to the legendary SAF.

Of course they tried. Just isn't on the same level

You sound dramatic
 I am. Dramatically confused at those who thought we did really well in that game. Ah well eh? Let's hope we give them a better game next season.

Well, I don't "just look at xG". I watched the game. City are obviously much better in their general play than us, but we knew that already. We made it a very close game, which is more than anyone expected before kick-off.
Fair enough, didn't want to accuse you of something. I've seen the stat though and I wanted to comment on it :) I also did we presented ourselves reasonably well today. Don't think we were better though, 2:1 is a good representation of the game in my eyes.

They are a better side than everyone right now. A 2-1 loss is what it is and reflect the situation. Similar to the 96 final where a team with potential (Liverpool) met an existing machine (United). Lets hope United progress unlike that Liverpool team.

A good season overall and not a battering that could have happened.

Absolutely toothless in offense, Eriksen was our worst player, De Gea will be the scapegoat and he was at fault for the second goal, the first one is definitely not on him. Sancho useless, Garnacho only positive. Sad times to lose to these feckers
This. Eriksen was so slow on the ball, slow off it. Overrun in midfield with Fred doing the follow de bruyne game, only casemiro was the mobile defensive midfielder throughout the first half and he was overrun. Sancho can't be played into confidence/form anymore, he needs to make the right decisions once a game at least. Continuously running into players when easier passes available.

Fair play, we gave it a go.

What was infuriating was us losing all the 50/50s - not helped one bit by Eriksen. They were just working way harder than us. They as well seemed well able to tackle us, but we would shit our pants when they had the ball.

Two cheap goals to give away though. Garnacho unlucky with his attempt too.

I don't know if I am right on this one, imo Varane should block instead of dodge both shots that result two goals

Despite some of the bollcoks people will come up with, I'm proud of the boys today.

City weren't able to play their normal game. Sure, they passed it as they do, and at times, got into good areas, but those attacking overloads in the wide areas were shut off for the majority of the game.

Other than Gundogan's two great efforts, they were restricted to very few chances, when, if you look at it, is very good considering they've been steam rolling teams of late.

Having watched that, it's clear to see what our priorities should be. A striker, midfielder and goalkeeper. Spend big on those positions and in my opinion, we'll give it a right go next season.

ten Hag has done all he could with the team available to him, and as I said, I'm fecking proud of the boys today.

Roll on next season!
It's been a good season. We need to build from it.

Second best to every ball. Glad we weren’t embarrassed bug the gulf in class is

Big summer this year. Need to move players on and get better in. I have faith in ETH but if Weghorst is one of our best options off the bench, you know we’re miles off.

I thought we did OK, we didn't get humped at least.
Ultimately, we had too many passengers in the team which makes it very difficult to beat them.

Scoreline was about right, I thought. Don’t think it would have been robbery if we equalised but they shaded it.

There is a clear difference in quality (I’m off to vent in the performance threads) but we made a game of it and two or three times out of ten we end up winning that game with a lucky break here or there. Not too bad in the circumstances.

Next season will be a bit better and no reason we can’t do what Arsenal did this year.

The result I was expecting unfortunately.
We gave it a good go.
Time to get the ownership sorted once and for all and start to build properly.

The defeat hurts because we were closer to getting something than I expected(and probably most of our fans).
This defeat hurts because it costs us a trophy.
This defeat hurts because it was against City.
This defeat hurts because they will get the treble.

Other than that nice weekend to everyone.

Not overly disheartened by that (thought I would be after 12 seconds mind...)

They were massive favourites, are cheats, brought however many millions off the bench to our $0 (my laptop doesn't appear to have a pound sign ) had a squad today that I reckon only 3 of our players get in, lost to a jammy goal (really should have saved that) and we made it a real game.

This isn't being defeatist just realistic. Every success they have is an inevitability so you know, whatevs really.

Not a bad season all up, ended on a bit of a downer but top 4 and a trophy is real progress, ETH has us on the right track. Fingers crossed we aren't bought by our own HR abusers so I can still enjoy watching him improve us next year.
