It's going to be a long summer. We'll definitely sign some players but I don't expect any significant signings until/unless the take over is done on time which seems unlikely.

There's just no way we can spend 80m on Mount. We've got to learn from previous mistakes, we've got 150m quids worth of underperforming winger shaped donkeys at the club right now even.

How is it so many other clubs can nab bargains and we always get rinsed? Mount and Mac Allister are probably quite similar in quality but the latter is going for half the price of the former.
I mean I agree that they are of similar quality but Mount is homegrown so English tax plus he has won a UCL and I believe was their POTY twice.

Having said all that, to demand 80m for a player coming off a poor 18 months and with a year left on their contract is absolutely insane.
50m is reasonable to me.

Yeah we are never paying £80m for him this is not another Maguire situation that's for sure

Even £50m seems on the max to me, that said not my money, would have no issue dumping some reasonable add-ons though, for winning CL, Prem etc... it really would not matter so much if we paid £80m if £30 were add-ons of the like... who the feck knows we are all just bored waiting for anything

I am waiting for the inevitable announcement that we have a new 'signing' after the magnificent efforts of the transfer team in persuading Sabitzer to remain, and a virtually new 'signing' in the return of DVB. They will of course, despite all previous evidence of no footballing activity whatsoever, be hailed as the new cornerstones on which the midfield will be anchored.
We will be told that Weghorst is looking electric in pre season training and seems to have captured his old razor sharp eye for goal, and that Martial has gone a week without falling over and crippling himself. These dramatic turnarounds [all down to ETH's fantastic coaching and foresight] mean that we have no need to look for a forward at all.
Should someone who cannot dribble, cross or shoot come on the market for 100 million, we will of course buy him immediately and put him on the wing whilst the coaching squad hint that in training they have found a fabulous new role for the other two overpriced shit wingers we have. The words 'deep' or 'false' and then a variety of numbers like 8, 9 or 10 will then be mumbled.
In other words - depressingly the same as the last ten seasons, apart from David ['he got the golden gloves y'know'] De Gea actually having to wear a real clown suit in important matches, at an increased salary of course.

We will of course by then gone as far as round 32 of the bidding process, despite the Sheik's 85 billion offer being refused because the Glazier's are still impressed by INEOS's total lack of knowledge on how to run a football club. Jassim will finally say 'f*** it', buy Liverpool in ten minutes flat and they will flower again.

75,000 total idiots will still flock to Salford every week with no lesson learnt.

I know this is hyperbole mixed with frustration, but we will definitely buy at least 4 players by the end of the window and won't sign WW or Sabitzer - we'll just end up with 3rd best options in at least 3 of those slots, in terms of quality and value for money, as rivals seize upon opportunities opening up right now in terms of free transfers, release clauses and players from 'lesser' leagues willing to spend a year or two as squad players in return for CL and PL minutes.

Biggest issue is that the managing Glazers function as both parasite and infection, without getting rid of which we won't even really perform 'on par' let alone better, even with the best scouting team and ETH at the top of his game. However, I think it would also serve us well to have whoever takes over (and approaches next summer's window, which will be the first 'proper' one we'll have had since 2007, despite the glitzy signing since then) to get rid of most of the residues/glazer legacies on the 'sporting direction//senior recruitment side.

I think there's a bad version of institutional memory at play, a tolerance for mediocrity to the marrow and this, more than Woodward's 'special' decisions regarding specific contracts and his theory of squad value for the purposes of satisfying the lenders, is why we cling to retaining so many average players. We need a SD/team to work with and push against when necessary, Ten Hag in order to prune the squad to have no 'weak' spots and no fat, which will also help with blooding young players and persuading new youngsters to join with the hope of a pathway there...

If you are like this mid June, I wonder how you'd be like if we haven't signed someone in July. Give it a rest. Still early days. Still lots of time to moan about signings.

Last I checked we had a pretty good season last year. The transfer activity really blew up in our faces when we went from 6th to 3rd, won the League Cup, got to an FA cup final.

Porto need to raise €50m via player sales/loans, and €60m will give them enough coverage to deal with agent commissions and solidarity payments. Diogo Costa's sale is Porto's best bet to to getting that much money in.

Tier 2:
  • Mamardashvili is considered as Mendy's replacement as Chelsea's #2 keeper.
  • Gregor Kobel is another alternative alongside David Raya though Raya is now close to signing for Spurs.

Your answer is in itself a symptom of our woes. You may be happy with being also rans and winning a cheap cup, but I am not. Do you not remember we used to mock Arsenal mercilessly because they were happy just finishing in the top four? We used to be excoriating at their lack of ambition and contentedness at merely qualifying for the Champions League. Now it seems we have become them.

I would rather my United than yours.

BVB has DFB star in its sights!
Two key points to consider:
  • Felix Nmecha came up under Manchester City's youth setup, so he will count as a homegrown player for United.
    • This + the Mount and Kane links tell us that part of our transfer activity will revolve around bringing in homegrown players to replace some of our other homegrown players.
  • Felix Nmecha made some homophobic posts on social media recently, which the DFB has commented on.
    • Dortmund supporters are resisting this possible transfer.

We made good progress, what were you expecting from last season?

Why would they give a discount? Do we have a club card? Don't see us wasting time going for Onana since he'll be off to Chelsea and they have an advantage with their relationship with Inter, probably do a grubby deal involving Lukaku.

Nectar points for signing Telles, Dalot and Anderson.

Thanks to @Hester_manc for originally posting the quotes in the Rasmus Højlund thread.

The aggregators (and MEN, unsurprisingly) are misrepresenting the key quotes, so I won't post their Tweets. He was asked about United's interest in the Denmark national team's press conference.

On whether there was a video call between him and Erik ten Hag:
No, there has been no video call.
On whether there was any contact between him and United:
I can't say anything about that.
On whether he expects to be sold this summer:
We'll have to see what happens. As you see and hear, I would imagine that a lot can happen with the striker market this summer. There are many clubs that are missing a nine. So something will definitely happen in relation to a striker cabal, and then we'll see if I'm in.

But as I said, I'm really happy at Atalanta and we'll be playing in Europe after the summer. I've settled in well there. My goal is to get to the highest level, and you could say that Manchester United is that, so that would be huge.

Of course not. I just don't think how many transfers we've made by June 12th is indicative of a good season or not. RVP, Rooney and Berbatov signed pretty late under Fergie and still had a good impact. We just saw Casemiro sign late and have a fantastic impact.

Last season was a fantastic first step coming from possibly our lowest ebb post-Fergie. If you can't understand that as progress and have faith in ETH and his recruitment then I don't know why you bother following Utd.

Even if we only bring in 2-3 players I expect to see solid progress again next season. We won't have the mid-season World Cup, the Queen's death or the Europa League messing up our schedule which should allow our best team to be fresher for every game. If we are able to go further than that on recruitment either because the takeover happens or we are able to sell more then that's excellent.

Linked with so many centre backs. Our already tight defence gonna turn into the Great Wall at this rate.

Wonder if we are planning to shift Martinez into midfield or go with 3 at the back perhaps?

Martinez - Min Jae - Pavard
Disasi - Varane - Lindelof

Not happening of course, but that's surely the best central defence lineup in the world

I agree with Mou Mou Land.

We've just seen City win 5 PL titles in 6 years, beat us in the FA Cup & win the Champions League thus equal our treble that we held so dear for so long & us UTD supporters are high fiving ourselves for finishing 3rd & winning the LC, standards have dropped since Sir Alex retired.

Poverty of expectations through years of disappointment and helplessness. But with any kind of 'normal' ownership, let alone one which would invest substantially out of its own reserves, people's expectations should go up 25% from the off; just having an efficient recruitment and selling mechanism, that doesnt reward or hoard mediocrity and doesn't indulge overpromoted failchildren around the hiring of exec staff and final decisions on player purchases and contracts, will make us competitive, even if it's not a 'cheat code' to match City's cheating.
