Deja Vu summer again. Overpaid for Maguire. Overpaid for Sancho. Overpaid for Antony. Hopefully when we overpaid for Mount he can actually make big contribution to the team unlike the above stated.
Overpay for Bruno, overpay for Casemiro, overpay for Martinez…

The fact that you're questioning whether he'd improve our first 11 suggest you underrate him, certainly relative to the club. So obviously you're going to think we're overpaying for him.

But however much people do or don't rate Mount is separate to how negotiations are being handled. And as is we've currently offered the lowest amount all those reports on our interest suggested he would actually cost.

So for people to argue we're caving into Chelsea's demands, or that we're being taken for mugs, or that we need to tell Chelsea to feck off is bizarre. As is we're still on course to pay what we intended to pay for him, with no failure in negotiations on our part or suggestion that we're willing to go beyond our valuation.

Complain about signing Mount all ye want, but quit with the needless negativity about how we're not handling the actual attempt to buy him correctly.
Any United fan has a right to complain with how the club deals with transfers. Our last 10 years prove we can’t buy well, buy at a decent price or sell players. We are arguably the worst club in the world at it and a big reason why we are a financial mess. We haven’t got enough funds to push forward after a good season because of the overspending last summer.

If we hadn't overspent last summer we would almost certainly not have finished top 4 or won a cup etc.

Precident has been set recently, domestically for players with a single season left on their contract;

Sterling - city to chelsea £47.5m
Kovacevic - chelsea to city £30m

So a £50-55mil bid sounds fair to me. £60-65mil demanded by chelsea seems excessive.
Based on these examples I think 45m + 5m bonus is fair.

Nah, it's just whining. In this case there's been absolutely zero wrong with how we seem to have approached negotiations, we've made the move for Mount relatively quickly and (given £50m was the minimum any report on our interest expected him to go for) we've yet to make an excessive offer for him. So people should park their constant need to be negative and criticise the club.

I haven`t been following this thread lately but, according to the comments on this page this is on like donkey kong?

So hard to get that muppet dick moving for this. We have a decent squad full of players in the decent to very good range. We desperately need to add more players that are very good to bridge the gap to the top. Mount adds some nice depth i suppose but does he really lift the first 11?

Have you not heard of Real Madrid.

Manchester United is not the only football club in the world. It’s just the only club we pay the most attention too. Get a grip.

Same. I have the feeling that he will give us quality in squad depth but he doesnt feel like the type of player I wished to make our starting 11 better. Would have been much wiser to speculate on a free transfer next summer. For 60m (or if we add 10m on top) we can definitely find better players.

50 million should be the absolute maximum given his contract situation and what he would bring to the team. Should tell Chelsea take it or leave it, can't help but feel if it were City or Liverpool bidding for him he'd be away for 40 mill.

He will lift our play in transition on the counter, but will not lift our ability to keep the possession which is our main weakness.
Not impressed with the focus on this style of player, we need a world class 8.

Don't Chelsea need it done quickly?
Ourselves and Arsenal bailing them out.
Doesn't look like it to me if they have knocked back two bids from us already.
Getting 65mil for Havertz is hardly bailing them out, it is daylight robbery how Chelsea could get that much money for him.

A bit part player for a team far worse than us and one we don't need at all and massively reduces our limited budget for the areas we badly need it. I massively question the manager again on this judgement
This very much feels like the LVG era again in the transfermarket.

FFS, we are stupid if we pay that.
These type of dumb deals empty our accounts and everyone gets surprised when we can't buy anyone in January when we need to. This is almost double what Liverpool paid for Mac Allister.

I don't understand why people are moaning about this.
All Chelsea fans I know are gutted they are selling Mount.
Young, fighter, can play anywhere in midfield, good set of skills, he'll excel under ETH.
Will be very, very important player. Let's go!

We need a coherent dof/transfer structure above the manager like properly run clubs.
I was a bit like this when we were signing Anthony as we didn't need a rw as much as other areas but the manager was adamant so he got his man for a huge cost. Hopefully the ownership situation brings about a modern structure and ETH can be just left to coach the team.

He isn't a bit part player for Chelsea.

60+ mil for a guy in the last year of his contract :wenger:

Think he’d be a good addition to the squad but ffs who on earth is giving the green light to spend that sort of money given the circumstance.

I think ETH sees this guy as a FDJ alternative. He is very mouldable, young enough to get even better. He’s good at carrying the ball and got goals and assists in him.

ask absolutely any chelsea fan and they will tell you they are proper gutted to see him go. Chelsea want to keep him (hence the hefty fee) I think he will be a fan favourite.

One penny more than 50m is daylight robbery. Even 50 is stretching to the limits with Mount's subpar performances for two seasons now.

I still think that Lavia + Felix (Ioan) or Lavia + Barella will be much better than Mount with either.

But last year I was also skeptical about Martinez, a month later he became one of my favorite players.
I was sceptical on Martinez too but that was largely due to the fact I'd not watched him before and worried about his physical attributes. I'm sceptical on Mount too but feel much more informed having seen a lot of him at Chelsea and for England.

I really hope he’s better then I’ve ever seen from him in a Chelsea shirt cause right now this looks like a crazy signing to prioritise when we are seemingly balking at the prices being quoted to us for players we need way more like strikers and GKs.

Why don't we just wait one year and sign him for free, and work on areas that need strengthening more immediately, like striker?

If we need a Mount type player, who's the alternative and how much will they be available for? Basically, DVB should have been our Mount type player if he knew how to play football but I can't think of many more...but I see a lot of Kovacic/Sterling type players. I think being in the niche category drives the price up as well (same with FDJ last year).
