Not in the starting XI or bench for Leeds game, is he injured or left the squad to complete transfer?

Definitely been told he can leave. Not in Ten Hag's plans so no real point using him in pre-season.

From the official website:

Fred's omission is purely a precaution and because he is managing his workload, after returning for training at Carrington last week.
Believe if you want.

Unless you have guaranteed incoming players I don’t think you have the numbers in midfield to just not bother getting him fit and ready for the season.

We have one more than last season in Mount. If the deal with Fulham or whoever is close, no reason to risk him. In general I agree with you but we don't know how close the transfer is.

Have the squad trained in Norway for match?

You would think he be told to stay back in Carrington to do fitness work instead of travelling and not being in squad.

I forgot about Mount!

This is great news. We should get a decent transfer fee for him and reinvest that in a much better midfielder, we are finally doing the right things in the transfer market. Tears in my eyes.

I don't mind if we'll have - Bruno, eriksen, mount, Casi, hopefully Armabat with a little reinforcement of Kobbie and Mejbri. That's a solid midfield.

If we can let go Fred and McTominay, then hopefully those two squad roles can be well covered by Mount's acquisition and Mainoo stepping up (unless the latter goes on a loan, which I think would be the better move for both him and the club longer-term). If we only let go 1 of McFred, I'd rather keep Fred and get rid of McTominay.

McTominay too. I know he’s not the most exciting player in the world but both him and Fred won’t leave in the same season and McTominay has proven to be a sometimes useful player in the past.

Fred is twice the player McTominay is. If Fred is going then we better be selling him too so that we can fund Amrabat.

I'm not so sure Amrabat is a must. We could just use Mainoo. Ten Hag seems to be lining him up as a 6 rather than an 8.
I love the look of Mainoo but from last season we will have lost McTominay, Fred and Sabitzer and added only Mount.

I'm not sure honestly, I'm not opposed to giving Mainoo a lot of games but it just feels a little bit short to me numbers wise.

I will miss Fred. He had some bizarre games but he had some fantastic ones too and has an unreal engine. He always gave it his all, and on his day, gave even the best midfields a tough, tough game.

If Fulham have him and Palhinha next season, at that small home pitch of theirs, they will be an incredibly tough game for anyone.

Yeah I suppose it depends on how much trust ten Hag will place in youth. Fred out for Mount. McTominay and Sabitzer out for Mainoo and Hannibal.

I'll be sad when he leaves. He's been one of my favourite players for quite a while. Always gave 100% when it seemed like others didn't care. With Saudi clubs looking, hopefully that means we can get a decent fee.

I don't think we should be relying on youth players. If we're trying to catch City, we're not going to do it with them. Especially Mainoo. He is too young and has no experience. We should be signing another #6 to be backup for Casemiro.

Easily my favourite player of the last few years because unlike too many of his teammates he always left it all on the pitch and played with a smile on his face. I’ll miss him but it’s pretty clear the manager doesn’t see him as a starter so it’s cool. I totally trust the managers vision now that I know for sure that he’s bringing in more of the right kinds of personalities with the requisite combination of skill and work rate. Farewell sweet Prince!

A very likable player who reached very good heights in some big games for us but far too inconsistent for the level we aspire to be at , sad to see him go but it is the right decision , likable is not enough reason to keep a player if you want to get back to the top.

One of my favorites of the last few seasons. Also seemed to stand by Ole till the very end even when some match-going fans started to turn against the manager.

On the footballing side a very good player who somehow has never managed to string a few consistent games together. For a specific job - and on his day - he's great, but then you don't know what Fred will show up three days later.

I will say I did enjoy a Casemiro-Fred-Bruno midfield last season more than I did a Casemiro-Eriksen-Bruno one simply because of how much energy Fred showed and how we seemed to play a few centimeters higher up with those two pressing monsters. In a way, it kind of set a template for what ETH is trying to achieve with Mount this season.

Hopefully we get something decent for him and all the best to him.

If it's between him and McT, I keep Fred every single time. Shame, I'll miss him as a personality. Worked his socks off. And was never afraid to put a shift in no matter the circumstances. I hope he's successful at his next club.

This actually makes me sad. Loved his energy and effort, his smile and not giving up no matter the circumstance.

Yes he had some shockers and was inconsistent and I didn’t think he should be a starter - but he definitely had his uses as a squad player

We have young players coming up so for me I rather give Mainoo or Hanibal a chance and sell him now for a decent price. Time to move on, especially as he had some shocking performances and where it is hard to trust him

Is he our best Brazilian so far?

For me he is better than Anderson, Rafael, Kleberson & even Antony.

For me he isn't. Would never have him to be a consistent starter, and I would give that to Antony, Rafael, Anderson at stages in their career at United.

And Casemiro, not sure how I forgot about him.

The fact that Anderson could play on the half turn alone makes him better, I'm sure we can agree he was a better foward passes of the ball and ball carrier!?

The only outstanding thing about Fred is his energy.

Great character is Fred, just a shame he has had one good game for every five poor games. Likeable player but just not consistent enough. Hope we get at least £15million for him.

He's a likable guy but a limited player, not really suited to play in a structured system, he thrives in a more creative environment where less thinking and more instinct are involved.
