Doesn’t seem that much of an increase when we signed the last deal so long ago? City, Chelsea and Newcastle will no doubt sign obscene deals that dwarf this.
Yah but considering that we have been flirting in & out of the CL, the biggest platform for Adiddas, I am surprised we can get a 20% bump up.

I'm surprised we've signed a ten year contract. Does thats mean a new owner can't negotiating their own deal?
They all have break/termination/penalty clauses. If in 3 years United felt they could get £150m a year over 10 they’d likely be able to terminate without it getting hit for the full amount.

Seems like they’ve taken the top 4 clause deductions out - and instead we have a minimum amount guaranteed which can rise based on further achievements. Looks a cracking deal tbh.
This says more about the League? It's a competitive league so there will be shitload of eyeballs regardless how well we do.

There will be break clauses etc. Most will include significant penalties you'd imagine though.

City signed one worth £65 million just 4 years ago - and that runs until 2029
Liverpools deal is expected to run until 2025 but that was never made public - worth £70m
Chelsea runs until 2032 and is only worth £60 m
Newcastle had a Puma deal which was worth less than £10 million in 2021 - not sure if they extended it. But to think Newcastle will attract a huge shirt-deal just because they qualified for C.L once - that wont happen.

So no - I think you are wrong - there is no reason to expect anyone short-term to make a better deal

I doubt the current owners or the new owners would have anything to do with the deal. We have people at the club who specialise in sponsorship deals and negotiations.

They’re not really though. The deal is worth £900m over 10 years. Our current deal initially agreed over 10 years ago was worth £750m over 10 years.

Furthermore I’m not sure if the £900m includes the two remaining years of the current deal plus the further 10 years of the new deal. Which would make the deal worth £75m per year, which is identical to our current deal with them.

A bit of a surprise given we had Ronaldo’s shirt sales in this current period. Which you’d have thought would have helped us negotiate much higher numbers for any new deal.

It’s well above our rivals at 30m a year more than City. We’re never getting a better deal than this we've been shite for 10 years.

Its a minimum of 90m per season, on our last deal it would drop significantly without CL football

You'd have thought (especially with 3 years left on the deal) this sort of stuff would be paused until the new owners come in?

What if the new ownership wants shorter contract term lengths compared to the Glazers preference of long deals?
There are no new owners coming in, thus the new deal.

Adidas kits have been more miss than hit for me, but I think the Chevrolet logo plays a big part in that. It was so bad. The new away kit is one of the worst kits I have ever seen. The third kit last season is a close second. But the home and third are excellent! Nike are responsible for the tablecloth kit, but I remember their designs being cleaner and more sleek. Would rather go back to Nike or perhaps try Puma.

The money is more important, though, so big deal. Good stuff.

Adidas makes better quality kits but Nikes had better designs. More creative.

Don’t think it matters how shit we have been, it’s the support base Adidas are tapping into, trophies help build it further but not a necessity for Adidas to get a return on the investment. Curious how much Barca and Real get in shirt sponsors?

I'd have assumed that would be the case and contracts have to be honoured, unless by mutual consent the contract is cancelled.

You also made a huge assumption in that we're getting new owners as that's gone stupidly quiet

Hope we never go back to Nike, I like Adidas better. (This season's kit is a bit boring though)

So does this new deal mean we can sign Harry Kane without having to sell 4 players?

If we missed CL football for two seasons in a row, it would drop by £22.5m for each season we’re out of it and then go back to the normal amount when we re entered again. Furthermore, Woodward explained in an investor call that the drop would be divided by the number of years left in the term of the contract and be reduced by that amount per year, so if we missed out for 2 years from the day we signed it, it would 22.5/8= 2.8m. Then for the remaining 8 years it would have been an yearly payment of 75-2.8=72.2m per season.

Jesus, people saying that they prefer Nike.

Nike were horrendous. Who could forget the table cloth monstrosity?

United and Adidas. It's the way it should always be.

Yep. Just hope UEFA do away with rule that forces clubs to have space on the sleeves for poxy badges.

Success means feck all with these deals, it’s just the size of the merchandise buying fanbase.

In terms of quality I've found the adidas replica kits to be rubbish - badges coming off after a couple of months, stitching coming apart etc (and this was me wearing the shirt while mostly sitting on my butt). So not inclined to buy any more shirts in the coming years.

Nike better than Adidas that's really funny. They had some absolute rubbish kits. Adidas are at least for me the better designed kits.

The tablecloth didn't look so bad several games in. I think the non tablecloth but collared version under Moyes was worse.

Well, I cannot speak about the quality, because I haven't bought a kit since 2010 for obvious reasons. But yeah, I prefer the designs of Nike, even with the occasional mistake. Adidas have been largely meh, with the occasional shite one. 16-17 and 20-21, for example.

I have the most iconic United memories in Nike. That may have something to do with it.

People complain too much about the look and design of kits that are usually alright.

Complaining about the price is ok

That's some bonkers increase but you have to wonder if the Glazers were happy to sign off a 10-year deal because it pumps the valuation and after 5 years, we might be in a position where this doesn't look anywhere near as good (but they won't care/be affected by it).

Adidas are very conservative in their design. This is why I actually applaud them for this season's away kit -- the Green/white with thin red lines ... they are pushing the boat out on this design.

Its the best they have come out with in terms of imagination for a long time. Almost like a casual shirt.
