You’d think at least one of Stones/Laporte/Ake will leave, now?

We’ve just signed Disasi but if we could’ve picked up either Stones or Laporte for a similar fee or even an extra £10m, I think that would’ve been a more prudent deal. Someone could get a bargain this summer.

Probably the most perfect player for their system they could have bought. Hope he flops hard, doubt he will.

Laporte surely. Ake just signed a new deal and Stones is pretty nailed on with Dias. Walker and Cancelo might also leave.

This lad and Haaland will be their Rio and Rooney for the next 10 years. Sickening how they can repeatedly just go out and get the very best. I guess recruitment wise they are second option only to Madrid now and they’ve majorly closed the gap in the same way we should have post Ronaldo. We’ve been drifting away ever since.

On the plus side I do like our signings under ETH they feel like Fergie signings. Winners. Not just money motivated.

Great signing for City, but hey, we've got Jonny Evans....honestly, our club only recovers and gets closer to the blue half when the Glazers finally leave.

Signings like this his why oil money is dangerous. Any other club spending 300m on infrastructure cuts their cloth accordingly.

Pep plans on playing a back 4 of all CB's so he needs to carry at least 6 on the roster

They are in a position now where they can blow their budget on the one or two perfect players and not have to worry about much else. Unless they drop the ball massively, they will be able to operate like that for the foreseeable future.

It’s almost impossible for them not to dominate at this point. Replacing De Bruyne will be the only real challenge they have to face in the next couple of years.

Stones would definitely not be up for sale, and definitely not for that price. He’s one of the first names on the team sheet. I think you are right in Laporte though - somebody will get a bargain for him later this summer.

Dias, Gvardiol & Stones is some set of Centre Backs with Ake & Akanji also in the mix. I can see Laporte leaving and Walker staying which is a strong ‘back 6’ to pick from.

This is disingenuous we have Shaw and Martinez who play in Gvardiol’s position.

It’s pretty easy when you don’t have to strengthen elsewhere.

Good to know that City don't spend big on players like United do.

Oh wait their core of Silva, Aguero, Company, Sterling, KDB that they bought pre Neymar to PSG have all gotten old/left, and now they're having to pay market prices like everyone else

If they wanted to keep their thrifty rep they should've paid Leipzig £50m and another £50m to Halaands dad and agents

Honestly not convinced by him. Looked great at the World Cup where his team played for the penalties right from the kick-off. Seems quite slow on the turn. Might be physically a slight upgrade on Laporte but it is a steep price to pay for that.

90 million euros, ffs! :houllier: And then people moan about 70 million for a talented striker in Hojlund.

Incredible signing really, so boring to see them spend massive on yet another quality defender. But fair play to them, when you’ve got a cheat code and aren’t ever going to be punished, why not use it.

Wasn’t it reported that Leipzig wanted a bit more than £100m and were unpleased by the way City conducted their business with the player?
And just a week later City signed him for more than £20m less than what the unhappy selling club was asking?

Can’t say much other than what a nicely run club, they really do know how to do business

Is Pep’s ultimate goal playing a team full of CBs? They now have Dias, Stones, Laporte, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol. And let’s face it, Ederson is a CB who pretends to be a goalkeeper. They must have some others I forgot.

I think it's pretty obvious they get away with payment structure. They put full 80 mn upfront than structural pay of 100 mn over three four years.

If Leipzig get 80 mn upfront they can invest the money for their entire squad this season itself. So it makes sense for them and city as well.

Its also been reported in german press that leipzig needed the money as there in ffp trouble. it was quoted in about april time they had to sell 3 players. gvardiol was one being mentioned.

They are lucky. They only need one or two players every summer so can go top shelf every time.

Why is everyone that city or Liverpool sign seen as some god like player on here? It’s honestly baffling and cringey. Yes he’s a good defender but “best in the world”? Blimey.

Sorry to the person who thinks haaland will stay at city for 10 years, that is never happening. Haaland wants to be known as the greatest all time number 9, and he seems to have ambition outside of just cash, will eventually go la Liga, and I imagine he will want to play in every league he can.

Maguire cost us 87m€ and Gvardiol costs City 90m€. So most people in Europe will disagree with that if it makes you feel better. ;)
